Chapter 310: Out of Patience
Chapter 310: Out of Patience
Rain’s eyes flickered to the drink, then back to Michael’s face. His twisted grin betrayed his eagerness, setting her nerves on high alert. He’s up to something. Masking her unease, she forced a faint smile.
"Thank you," she said softly, taking the glass in hand. But just as she lifted it, she let it slip deliberately. The glass shattered on the floor, the juice spreading across the tiles.
"Ahhh!" she gasped, clutching her head and wincing in exaggerated pain. "It hurts!" she cried, her voice trembling.
Michael’s expression shifted to alarm as he jumped from his chair. "Get the medic right now!" he barked, his usual smug demeanour replaced with panic.
Rain escalated her performance, clutching her head and pretending to tremble as if in a seizure. Her body shook violently, her breaths shallow and erratic. Michael cursed under his breath and rushed out of the room, shouting orders to his staff.
When the medic arrived, accompanied by a doctor and two aides, they knelt beside her, scanning her condition. One of them spoke firmly, "Let’s give her a sedative to stabilize her."
Hearing that, Rain let her body gradually relax, pretending to recover from the fit. She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them weakly, her breathing more controlled.
"Are you alright? What are you feeling right now?" the doctor asked with concern.
Rain furrowed her brows as if in pain. "I think I’m okay now," she murmured, her voice faint. "It’s just my head... it hurts so much. Could I have something for the pain?"
Her calculated weakness seemed to convince them. The doctor nodded. "We’ll take care of it. Just rest for now."
They quickly assisted Rain back to her room, carefully settling her onto the bed. The doctor administered medicine to ease her pain and help her body relax. She remained quiet, letting them believe she was too weak to resist.
As soon as the room cleared, Rain closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, her breathing slowing into a steady rhythm.
One thing Rain had come to observe about Michael was his peculiar restraint. He would never touch her if she was unconscious.
He wasn’t pleased by the idea of touching her without her being fully aware of his actions. It was as though he thrived on her knowing and witnessing his every move, craving her reactions, whether they were fear, resistance, or anything in between.
She’d wake to the sound of his agitated voice, barking orders or cursing under his breath.
He often directed his frustration at the medical team, his temper flaring as he ranted about her condition. "Why is she like this? Fix her!" or "If she doesn’t recover soon, it’ll be on your heads!" were common phrases she overheard during these episodes.
This strange quirk of his gave her a slim advantage. As long as she played her cards right and feigned weakness, she could stall his plans and buy herself more time. For now, it was her best weapon.
But she seemed wrong because just a few hours later, at midnight, Michael suddenly barged into the room with a can of beer in his hand.
"How are you feeling, huh? Are you just acting out on me, Rain? Do you really think I’m that stupid?!" he burst. She flinched when he threw the can of beer at the wall near her.
"Fuck! Your vital signs are all normal, and my doctor is having a hard time explaining what’s going on with you!" he shouted. He was obviously drunk. Rain sat up on the bed, her expression calm despite her racing heart.
"Maybe they’re quacks. You should have brought me to a proper hospital instead of caging me here with doctors who I doubt even have licenses," she mocked.
Michael approached her and abruptly grabbed her chin. "You! I’m already out of patience!" he grunted, forcefully kissing her lips.
Rain’s heart pounded, but she forced herself to appear subdued, masking her fury and fear beneath a trembling facade. Michael pulled away and stared at her, his lecherous grin widening as he misinterpreted her quivering as submission.
She bit her lip, lowering her gaze, her mind racing for an opening. "See? You know this is inevitable," Michael said smugly, moving closer, his grip on her arms tightening. Rain suppressed the urge to recoil, subtly shifting her weight to a more balanced position.
"You’re right. Besides, I don’t have the energy at all to fight you," she murmured with a shrug.
He kissed her again hungrily, like a madman, trailing kisses down her jawline to her neck. He seemed pleased when she tilted her neck slightly.
With his attention wholly on her, Rain made her move. She deliberately softened, feigning compliance as her hand brushed against a small vase on the table beside them. With a sudden sweep, she knocked the vase to the ground, shattering it.
"What the hell..." Michael snapped, his head turning toward the sound.
In that split second, Rain struck. Her palm shot up to his neck, targeting the carotid artery with a precise blow. The impact caused him to reel, momentarily dazed. She immediately followed up, using the heel of her hand to shove his head back against the edge of the wall.
The sharp sound of the collision filled the air as Michael crumpled, groaning in confusion. Rain didn’t wait, quickly assessing whether he was unconscious or merely disoriented.
When his body sagged against the wall, she moved swiftly, grabbing his phone to make a call. However, the phone was locked, and she couldn’t even dial an emergency number.
Annoyed, she threw it aside and grabbed something comfortable to wear for running. The pain in her body was sharp, but it wouldn’t stop her, she needed to escape. She glanced around for anything she could use as a weapon but found nothing except clothes. Limping, she quietly walked out of the room.
Her priority was to find a way off the island. Michael’s phone was useless, but there had to be another means of communication or at least transportation.
Footsteps echoed faintly down the corridor, coming closer. Rain’s stomach twisted. ’Stay calm,’ she reminded herself.
