Chapter 309: A Dark Hunger
"This bastard... How many years has he been building this?!" William growled, his frustration evident as he slammed his fist on the table. They were inside one of their confidential facilities closest to the location where Rain was being held.
The security surrounding Michael’s island was formidable, employing cutting-edge technology likely sourced from black markets. His internet infrastructure was heavily encrypted, making it nearly impenetrable even for Clifford’s advanced hacking skills.
Alexander’s team needed more time to crack into the system without triggering alarms.
Adding to the challenge, surveillance drones had picked up evidence of numerous armed guards patrolling the perimeter. The island was essentially a fortress, protected not only by its remote location but by an intricate web of security measures. The air, land, and sea routes to and from the island were under constant surveillance.
"It’s not just a hideout," Brandon observed, scanning through the intercepted drone footage.
"This could be the hub of Michael’s entire operation. If we make a wrong move, we’ll have an army on our backs."
Alexander’s jaw tightened as he reviewed the data. Every detail pointed to the island being the epicenter of Michael’s illegal activities. Weapons, contraband, and possibly trafficking... If Rain was in there, then she wasn’t just in danger because she was Michael’s obsession. She was trapped in the middle of his empire.
"We need to confirm first that she’s really on that island," Brandon cautioned, his voice calm but firm. "It could be a trap." Despite having a lead, the possibility of an ambush loomed large.
Alexander stared intently at the map laid out before him. Clifford had hacked into the construction firm’s systems and obtained the blueprints for Michael’s mansion. The layout gave them a tactical advantage, but the uncertainty gnawed at him.
"We need to verify if she’s actually there," Alexander said, his voice cold but steady. "The last communication we-"
"Boss, it’s Clifford!" Dion interrupted, rushing in and handing Alexander a speakerphone. "He confirmed Mrs. Lancaster’s voice on the phone!"
"Sending the file now," Clifford’s voice crackled through the line. "I intercepted the conversation between Rain and her father, Tim. I’m positive it’s her."
Brandon quickly opened the laptop, navigating to the file Clifford had sent. The room fell silent as they listened.
"Hello, Rain? How are you feeling?" Tim’s voice sounded through the speakers.
"I can’t remember anything," Rain responded. Her voice was faint but unmistakably hers. "Take me back! I didn’t agree to this!"
"Just stay there and live a quiet life with Michael," Tim replied coldly. "Try to please him... you’ll stay alive that way."
"Do you hate me this much?" Rain’s voice cracked with emotion.
"He suspects you’re faking the memory loss," Tim continued without hesitation, "but whether you are or not, it’s better for everyone if you obey him. Protect our family by staying by his side."
The call ended abruptly, leaving an eerie silence in the room.
"That bastard!" William spat, pacing furiously. "We should do a DNA test on that man. No real father would do this to his daughter!"
Alexander clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white as he fought to maintain his composure. His fury simmered just beneath the surface, threatening to boil over.
"What matters is that Rain is alive," Alexander said through gritted teeth, his voice trembling with restrained rage. "We’re getting her out of there. Now."
His entire body radiated fury as images of what Rain might have endured filled his mind. He wouldn’t just save her... he’d make every single person who had hurt her pay, including Tim. No one would escape his wrath.
"We’ll need to neutralize their communication systems first," Alexander decided. "Once we control their network, we’ll proceed with extraction. We can’t risk an all-out alert."
William nodded. "And we need a clear evacuation plan for sister-in-law. With the kind of firepower Michael has, any delay could cost us."
"We’ll get her out," Alexander vowed, his voice steady but laced with steel. "No matter what it takes."

The darkness of the evening only added to Rain’s sense of unease as she sat stiffly at the dinner table.
Michael moved about with a disturbing cheerfulness, setting plates and pouring wine as if this were some romantic date. His incessant chatter filled the room, though she stayed silent, her mind racing with plans to escape.
The discomfort from earlier lingered... his female servants had bathed her, brushed her hair, and dressed her in a thin, sleeveless dress that clung uncomfortably to her body. She was wearing nothing underneath, and the realization made her skin crawl.
Every glance Michael threw her way, his eyes gleaming with a dark hunger, solidified her fear that he intended far more than dinner tonight.
"I feel cold," she muttered, crossing her arms and hoping to stall his plans.
Michael’s smirk widened, his gaze lingering on her exposed shoulders. "Oh, right. Winter is coming." He poured himself a glass of wine, his voice lowering to a chillingly playful tone.
"Don’t worry, my Rain. After I feed you, I’ll make sure you feel so warm... in every way possible."
Her stomach turned at his words, but she schooled her face into a blank expression. She couldn’t show her disgust, not yet. If she wanted any chance of escaping, she had to keep him complacent, unaware of her true intentions.
"I’m not hungry," she murmured, pushing her plate away.
Michael leaned forward, his smirk deepening into a predatory grin. "Oh, but you must eat. You’ll need your strength for later, my love."
Michael took the spoon and brought it to Rain’s lips, his grin widening with every bite she swallowed. Rain forced herself to comply, each motion of chewing and swallowing deliberately.
Inside, her mind raced, weighing her limited options to escape... Her thoughts were interrupted when Michael stood abruptly. "Oh, let me get you some fresh fruit drinks," he hummed with an unnerving cheerfulness. He moved to the sideboard, placing his body strategically between her and the glass he was preparing.
Rain watched him out of the corner of her eye, her suspicions immediately rising. He appeared too focused on stirring the juice he poured. Michael’s grin grew wider as he covertly added a powder to the drink, stirring it with exaggerated care. She noticed the way he looked at the glass, satisfied and eager.
He turned back to her, holding the drink aloft like an offering. "Here you go, my love. Fresh juice, just for you," he said, placing the glass in front of her.
