Chapter 294: Impostors
Rain pushed forward with the case, determined to restore the honor of the real Minister Rick Brown and bring justice to those responsible. She meticulously built her case, gathering irrefutable evidence against the perpetrator, the impostor posing as the Minister.
Ella’s cooperation proved invaluable, her testimony, along with DNA tests conducted on personal items provided by her, established a clear distinction between the real Rick Brown and his impersonator.
While Rain was at the police station reviewing updates on the case, a swarm of reporters gathered outside. One persistent reporter finally managed to ask the burning questions as Rain exited.
"Prosecutor Lancaster, is it true that a powerful syndicate is behind this? Can you name them?"
"Is this some political propaganda? Or perhaps... could this be a mistake-"
The reporter’s voice faltered under Rain’s sharp, unyielding gaze.
"We have compiled and submitted extensive evidence to the court," Rain began firmly. "DNA testing, authenticated documents, and multiple witness testimonies, including those of Ella Brown, confirm that the man who returned as Minister Rick Brown was an impostor. This was not speculation or coincidence; this was a calculated, organized crime."
She explained how Ella had been kidnapped, narrowly escaping death, and how the real Minister had been killed to maintain the charade. Rain also highlighted key differences between the impostor and the real Minister, including forensic evidence that further supported the case.
The authorities already issued a nationwide alert for the criminal, whose face was identical to the late Minister Rick Brown. Through intensive investigation and DNA analysis, they identified the impostor as Mario Han, a man who had mysteriously gone missing a year ago.
The discovery raised more questions than answers. How had Mario Han gone from being a missing person to an exact replica of the Minister? Further digging revealed troubling details: Mario had no known criminal record, and his sudden disappearance had been reported by his family, who had no leads on his whereabouts. This pointed to a deeper and more sinister operation at play.
Rain’s team immediately expanded their investigation. They started tracing Mario Han’s last known movements, trying to uncover any connections he might have had to the syndicate.
They also reached out to his family, hoping for insights into his life before his disappearance.
The revelation that the impostor was a missing person only solidified Rain’s theory that this syndicate was systematically abducting individuals and using them for their schemes. It also raised the stakes... if Mario had been turned into a pawn, how many others might be out there, living under the radar as part of this dangerous network?
One reporter pressed, "So, this wasn’t suicide... it was homicide?"
Rain preferred the media to be involved like this, not just to publicize the case but to warn the public about the dangerous implications of such a scheme. This wasn’t just about one man; it was about exposing the power of a syndicate capable of infiltrating the government at the highest levels.
"Yes," Rain confirmed, her tone resolute. "This was murder, orchestrated by a highly organized syndicate. We suspect their goal is to infiltrate and manipulate government institutions. The Minister of Oceans and Fisheries was just the beginning... or, worse, only one of many already compromised."
The reporters erupted into a flurry of questions, their urgency reflecting the gravity of her statement. Rain raised her hand to regain control.
"We believe this syndicate has the capability to replace key figures with impostors trained to mimic them down to the smallest detail. Their precision suggests vast resources and long-term planning. This isn’t just a threat to one ministry... it’s a threat to national security," she added firmly. She paused, letting her words sink in.
For some reason, Rain felt compelled to issue a clear warning, her voice firm and unwavering. "This isn’t just about seeking justice for Minister Rick Brown," she said, her gaze sweeping over the gathered reporters. "This is about safeguarding our country from an unseen and dangerous threat... one that has already proven its ability to infiltrate and manipulate the highest levels of power."
The gravity of her words seemed to hang in the air, silencing the murmurs among the press. "This syndicate operates in the shadows, erasing identities and creating impostors to further their agenda. If they can do this to a government official, none of us can afford to take this lightly," she continued.
Rain’s determination deepened as she leaned closer to the microphones. "We need the public’s vigilance. This isn’t a battle I can fight alone, nor can the police. Everyone has a role in ensuring our country remains safe. Report suspicious behavior, no matter how small. Stay informed, stay cautious. Together, we can expose and dismantle this threat before it’s too late."

At the Lancaster Ancestral Mansion, Rock couldn’t contain his admiration as he pointed at the television, exclaiming, "See that? That’s my daughter-in-law right there!"
Vernice, seated beside him and meticulously peeling an orange, chuckled softly at his enthusiasm. "We know, we know. Stop rumbling so exaggeratedly," she teased, handing him the peeled orange with a knowing smile.
She was relieved that, after her confession to him, things hadn’t become awkward between them. Rock had remained his usual self, not pushing her away or making things uncomfortable. They had found their rhythm again, and for now, that was enough.
Rock pointed at the television with pride. "What? I’m not telling it to you but to Nurse Park! He doesn’t know that the woman speaking on TV now is my daughter-in-law!"
"Goodness," Vernice scoffed, rolling her eyes playfully. "You’ve already shown Nurse Park dozens of photos of both your daughters-in-law. And you’ve been bragging about how she’s the prosecutor handling the Minister Brown case since we arrived!"
Rock grinned unabashedly, popping an orange slice into his mouth. "Well, can you blame me? She’s brilliant and fearless! Not to mention married to my son. I have every right to brag!"
Vernice handed him another slice of orange and sighed. "You’re an incorrigible, old man. But I guess you’re not wrong, she’s certainly someone to be proud of."
Nurse Park chuckled softly, nodding. "She’s an impressive woman, Mr. Lancaster. You’ve got a remarkable family."
Rock’s grin widened. "See? Even Nurse Park agrees!"
