Chapter 279 - 279: Childish
"Are you saying that this girl looks familiar to you?" Idan asked, taking the photo of the stranger he had seen next to Arslan out of Arabel's hands.
"Yes," Arabel replied. "At first, I didn't recognize her, but then, looking closer, I realized that I had seen her somewhere before. I think she's an Awakened One too, as her appearance has changed a lot."
Idan nodded, agreeing with her opinion.
"Okay, then let's go to the Awakened Association. Milla said she would be waiting for us there, and maybe your brother will be there too," Idan suggested. Arabel looked at Idan carefully at first, but then nodded, agreeing with his suggestion.
"We'll pick up Ned along the way," Idan added, not forgetting the Doppelganger. As soon as Idan and Arabel emerged from the rift, Ned immediately sensed his presence and hurried to meet him.
By then, Coco had already moved from Arabel's shoulder to Idan's, settling herself comfortably there. Arabel's shoulder was too cold for her, while Idan's shoulder gave off a warmth she liked.
Arabel pursed her lips at this, but Idan just smiled.
It wasn't until they were walking through the city towards the Awakened Association that Idan remembered that he had completely forgotten about the gift he had bought for Arabel. After thinking about it, he decided to postpone it until a more appropriate moment and find an opportunity to donate it later.
Halfway to the Association's branch, they were joined by Ned, who broke into his usual half-crazed smile at the sight of Idan. However, his smile faltered when he noticed Arabel standing next to her master.
Ned still couldn't forget what had happened to his Master's partner along the way, and he was still afraid of Arabel.
"Young Master, — Ned greeted Idan, and then, glancing at Arabel, addressed her as his Master had requested: "Young Mistress."
Arabel was surprised by the greeting, as well as by Ned's voice. She looked at Idan and saw his grin.
"How's it going? Do you like it?" asked Idan.
"Childish," Arabel said, rolling her eyes, realizing that Idan was just having fun. But for some reason, she couldn't keep the smile off her face. It was obvious that she liked the way Ned addressed her.
"Ned, how is Arslan?" asked Idan, and Ned just stared at him in silence.
"I told you to keep an eye on Arslan, so..." — Idan did not have time to finish, as vague memories appeared in his mind, and he lost his balance and almost fell.
"What the..." his thoughts were in turmoil from this information, and he looked incredulously at Ned, who met his gaze with a familiar smile.
"Ugh," Idan said with annoyance, then, clutching his head, closed his eyes, trying to put his thoughts in order.
"Dan! What happened?" — Arabel became worried, noticing the sudden change in his condition.
"It's okay, Belle, I'm fine," Idan said when he came to his senses. He was amazed by what had just happened and couldn't believe that Ned was capable of such a thing.
"Phew, Ned just shared with me his memories, Belle, of how he watched your little brother at my request," Idan shared what happened to him.
"What? How?" — Arabel was surprised, as was Idan. She looked at Ned in disbelief.
"I don't know yet. Perhaps it's a special ability of our contract or a personal ability of Ned himself. But, remembering the Avatar ability that we got after signing the contract with the doppelgangers, I have a suspicion that, most likely, this is a special bond that exists between us and the doppelgangers," Idan suggested.
After signing the contract, the couple has not yet tried to use their Avatar ability. First of all, it hasn't been that long since they acquired it. Secondly, there has not yet been a suitable situation or the need to apply it. Idan continued to think about the new ability, trying to figure out how to use it and benefit from it, as well as from his other skills.
"Okay, let's go," Idan said, still lost in thoughts about the memories he had received, and continued on his way. Arabel, still filled with worry, followed him, as did Ned, who took a seat on the other side of Idan.
Idan was very pleased with Ned's work. He was extremely attentive and never for a moment lost sight of Arslan, while remaining unnoticed.
In the time remaining before their arrival, Idan quickly reviewed all the memories and drew attention to some moments that seemed strange and unusual to him.
"Ethan! Ned!" they were called as soon as they turned the corner, overlooking the branch building of the Awakened Association. Idan recognized Milla immediately, but Ned didn't seem to pay any attention to her.
Arabel squinted at the girl who had called out to Idan and Ned. She was a short girl with short black hair, the same as hers now. Comparing her to her current appearance, Arabel noted that despite her short stature, this girl was cuter and more beautiful than her disguise.
However, despite this discovery, Arabel did not lose heart. After all, her own true appearance was better than this girl's by at least a few heads. Having come to this conclusion, she calmed down.
But her calmness didn't last long. She noticed a man next to this girl whom she knew better than anyone else in her life. It was a young guy with red hair and azure eyes like hers. Her younger twin brother is Arslan.
Idan had warned her that Arslan would probably be there, and although Arabel was ready and even eager to see her brother, she froze when she saw him.
At that moment, she felt something inside her respond. And only then did she feel something warm trickle down her cheeks. Touching her face, she discovered that they were tears.
Realizing this, she quickly hid behind Idan so as not to show it to everyone who was waiting for them at the entrance to the Association building.
Besides Arslan and Milla, there were several other people there.
Besides Milla, Arslan, and several soldiers, Idan noticed another person. She was a tall, beautiful woman with long blonde hair and mesmerizing green eyes. Even in her winter clothes, it was obvious that she had the perfect body of a model. Many people immediately noticed her long legs, and Idan was no exception. Although this feature was not captured in the photo taken by Coco, he had already noticed it from afar before.
"Dan!" — Arabel suddenly called out through their mental link, distracting Idan from thoughts of this woman.
"I've remembered who she is!" exclaimed Arabel. "I remember those long legs. For some reason, Coco didn't capture them in the photo. Otherwise, I would have recognized her immediately."
"Of course, it was too eye-catching a sign. And anyone who saw it would immediately recognize her," Idan thought.
"This is Milena Orleans from the Orleans family," Arabel said. "And unlike Arslan and me, she is an heiress and a direct descendant of the main Orleans family."
