Chapter 278 - 278: We'll find out the truth soon
"So what's the story with Kraus?" asked Arabel, staring intently at Idan.
Sighing, Idan decided to tell her everything that had happened to him since he arrived in the city. He told about the meeting with Kraus and about the conflict he had drawn himself into.
"Woo-woo-woo, — Coco purred, sitting on Arabel's shoulder. It was as if she was trying to protect Idan, making it clear that he had intervened at her request. Arabel just smiled and stroked the fox cub, not blaming her.
Seeing that the Mistress was not angry, Coco was very happy and accepted her affection with pleasure.
"What did you say?!" — Arabel exclaimed when she heard that Idan had been attacked while he was saving the beasts. Her calmness seemed to evaporate, and her mood abruptly changed to anger.
Idan shook his head, realizing that his story could lead to negative consequences for Arabel. However, despite this, he still repeated what he had already said, trying to satisfy Arabel's question. Idan understood that withholding information could weaken their trust in each other, so despite all the difficulties, he decided to tell them.
After listening to Idan, Arabel felt a flame of hatred and anger flare up inside her. She was filled with rage directed at those who dared to attack Idan, especially Kraus.
"How dare they do this to him?" she growled inwardly, not showing her emotions on her face. Looking at Arabel, Idan would not have guessed that a volcano was raging inside her, ready to explode at any moment, if not for her eyes.
Her eyes were literally on fire, and if she could shoot beams, she would have already burned everything around her.
Arabel sighed and exhaled, closed her eyes for a few seconds, and then opened them. What had just been in her eyes was gone. A cold calmness appeared in its place, which greatly surprised Idan. The way Arabel was changing her emotions so quickly was simply absurd.
Looking at her, Idan wondered what Arabel had been through in those ten days to change so much. It was as if two extremes lived inside her at once: one crazy, and the other cold and determined.
As soon as Idan thought about it, he immediately froze, realizing the hidden clues behind it.
"Maybe Belle is suppressing the effects of a side effect, the disadvantage of her Ice Valkyrie bloodline?" suggested Idan, and his guess almost hit the nail on the head.
""Where are they? In this city?" — Arabel asked, looking at Idan, and her voice sounded unusually calm.
"Heh, — Idan grinned, seeing Arabel's equanimity. Then, as if fearing that they might be overheard through a mental link, he replied, "Them? Of course not. Ned dealt with everyone except Kraus."
Arabel's calm gaze wavered, and for a moment Idan caught the surprise in her eyes.
"What about Kraus? This girl Milla said he was missing, and you're suspected of it. Is this Ned's handiwork too?" asked Arabel, immediately pulling herself together and switching to the main culprit.
Idan shook his head.
"No, Belle. Ned didn't do much. It's me. I'm the reason he disappeared," Idan confessed, and Arabel couldn't keep calm anymore.
"I personally killed him, Belle," he added.
Upon hearing this confession, Arabel was startled and immediately noticed the strangeness in Idan's voice. When he said that Ned had dealt with twelve ordinary people first, and then confessed that he had personally killed Kraus, his voice did not express any emotion.
"Dan? Are you all right?" she asked, and the cold Arabel seemed to melt. In her place was the one Idan knew best—the ordinary, restless Arabel. Noticing this, Idan smiled.
"I'm fine, Belle. I feel great," he said with a smile, and looking at his smile, Arabel felt a little uncomfortable. It wasn't his usual smile.
Instead of his usual warm and sincere smile, a smile appeared on Idan's face, from which Arabel already knew a hint of madness.
Noticing Arabel's worried look, Idan's smile faltered, and he lowered his eyes. Then, with a sigh, he looked up again, and his demeanor returned to its former self.
"Don't worry, Belle, I'm fine," Idan said. "As for Kraus, don't worry, I didn't leave any traces, and I'll be fine."
Listening to Idan's words, Arabel began to feel annoyed by his statements. However, before she could say anything, Idan interrupted her thoughts by asking an unexpected question.
"By the way, do you know this girl?" he asked, pulling out a photograph Coco had taken and handing it to Arabel.
Distracted and surprised, Arabel reached out and took the photo.
One glance at the picture was enough to appreciate the attractiveness and beauty of the girl depicted on it. However, despite this, Arabel, looking at her, felt that she was a little familiar, but could not remember where she had seen her before.
"Who is she?" — Arabel asked, and her voice became cold and tense again.
"I'd like to know who it is myself," Idan said with a slight smile, shrugging his shoulders. Arabel frowned at these words. She immediately guessed that the photo was taken by Coco. And, as she knew, Coco couldn't take a picture just like that, because she always asked for candy for her work. It turns out that Idan probably asked to take a photo of this girl himself. But why?
"Initially, I had my own plans after I killed Kraus, but everything changed when I saw this girl," to Arabel's surprise, Idan did not hide his thoughts and began to share information about her.
"It would have been okay if she was alone, but she was with your little brother, Arabel. And from what I've seen, your brother Arslan and this girl have a difficult relationship because they walked hand in hand." After hearing Idan's last words, Arabel froze for a moment, then turned her attention back to the photo and couldn't believe her eyes.
"Is Arslan cheating on Irene?" was the first thought that came to Arabel's mind when she looked at the image of the girl in the photo.
"No, no, no, — Arabel shook her head as she spoke.
She knew her brother very well, and her brother wasn't that kind of person.
"There's something wrong here. I can't believe my brother can cheat on Irene. I know him too well," Arabel said in a confident voice, looking up and looking directly into Idan's eyes.
"We'll find out the truth soon," Idan said with a smile.
