Chapter 250: Chapter 251: A Long-Awaited Quarrel is Better than a New Marriage
"In your eyes, this might only be a minor issue, but in mine, it’s a big deal, Jinxia. Why don’t you trust me? Am I such a useless boyfriend that I don’t even know when my girlfriend is being bullied?"
Sheng Yan chuckled softly, some self-mockery in his tone.
He Jinxia quickly shook her head, hanging her head guiltily, "That’s not it, you misunderstood; I just didn’t want you to worry."
Sheng Yan said indifferently, "But hiding it from me hurts me even more."
He Jinxia bit her lip, tugging at his sleeve and shaking it gently, whispering, "I, I was afraid you’d get angry, confront someone, and cause a scene, so I didn’t tell you at the time."
Sheng Yan countered, "In your eyes, am I such an impulsive person?"
He Jinxia was rendered speechless by his rebuke. She could feel his anger and understand it, but she had her reasons for not saying anything.
What if Sheng Yan confronted Liu Mingxiang? Wouldn’t Liu Mingxiang then learn about her relationship with Sheng Yan?
She didn’t want to expose her relationship with Sheng Yan. Once it was out, it would significantly impact her career, more negatively than positively, and she’d be criticized by many as not being worthy of him.
Was it wrong for her to want to improve herself, to be more worthy of him?
In ancient times, matching social statuses was emphasized; in modern times, weren’t people allowed to strive to bridge such gaps?
He Jinxia started crying again, feeling even more wronged. She hadn’t even brought up how he had been neglecting her today, and now it seemed he was the one holding her accountable!
"This is my first time dealing with such a thing. I didn’t know what to do and got used to solving things by myself. Now that it’s all in the past, do you still need to bring it up?"
He Jinxia cried and glared at him, no longer shaking his arm, and threw it off forcefully.
To Sheng Yan, her expression looked like a bristling fox, her almond eyes almost popping out as she cried pitifully like rain on pear blossoms, yet not losing any of her stunning beauty, only missing the small fangs bared at him in a snarl.
Sheng Yan suddenly laughed, a light laugh that then turned into a boisterous one, his stern face dissolving, beaming as if "a thousand trees, ten thousand trees of pear blossoms bloomed."
He Jinxia was momentarily stunned by his laughter; after snapping out of it, she felt even more embarrassed and angered, and she really wanted to stomp on Sheng Yan’s foot.
"And you’re laughing? I admit I was wrong, but you haven’t even mentioned your part. Staring at your phone all night, I don’t even know who you were chatting with!"
Angered, He Jinxia still decided to raise her foot and give Sheng Yan a stern kick.
Sheng Yan, being prepared, caught her as she moved and held her tightly in his arms:
"Chatting? I’ve been investigating your issue. Everyone else knew, and I was the last to find out. Can’t I be angry?"
"You were just scolding me!" she accused angrily.
"I was scolding myself."
"You were clearly scolding me!"
"You heard wrong; I wasn’t."
"You were, and not only did you scold me, you also neglected me, too busy flirting with some woman in a chat!"
"No, I never chat with anyone."
Sheng Yan paused, leaning close to her ear to whisper softly, "I only chat with you; I don’t have the patience for anyone else. You know what I’m like."
Indeed, Sheng Yan normally was very aloof on the outside; even she was almost fooled when they first started dating. But who didn’t know this man, who was outwardly serious but insufferably flirty underneath? Who knew if his heart might stray?
"You, you’ve fallen for someone else!" He Jinxia said, gasping with anger.
Sheng Yan’s expression froze, and he wanted to protest his innocence. How could he fall for another man even if he did fall in love with someone else!
"I’m giving you my phone, you’re thinking too much. Just dealing with you has exhausted all my energy, I couldn’t handle another one."
Sheng Yan spoke softly to soothe her, pulling out his phone and handing it to her to look through freely. His expression was open, with nothing to hide, as if ’those without guilt don’t fear the ghost knocking at their door.’
The phone contained not only daily work exchanges in the entertainment circle but also some work arrangements from his company. After glancing at it a few times, He Jinxia dared not look further.
He was unguarded with her, but she had no interest in those matters at all.
"You didn’t talk to Zhang Ming for that long either. You’ve been on your phone all the time, what were you playing with?"
Sheng Yan chuckled lightly, reaching out to pinch her earlobe, "How would you know I was playing with my phone, secretly watching me?"
He Jinxia huffed lightly and gave him a look, "Narcissist."
She didn’t deny it.
Seeing the water glisten in her eyes, Sheng Yan couldn’t help but lean down and kiss her eyelid, then said, "Nothing really, just scrolling through Weibo, looking at the news, and trying hard not to look at you."
He Jinxia frowned.
Sheng Yan lightly tapped her nose and shook his head, finally understanding why she was so jealous tonight. She could even forget what he had said yesterday, really...
He raised an eyebrow playfully, "Did you forget? Last night, right before you hung up the phone, you specifically reminded me not to look around, to not keep only looking at you, lest others think too much."
He Jinxia’s expression stiffened on her face. Had she really said such things?
"Really forgotten?"
He Jinxia didn’t say anything, choosing to keep silent.
"It seems like you really did forget." Sheng Yan sighed lightly, "Poor me, paying for your mistakes, and some heartless person here is still mad at me."
"Alright, alright, you’ve been busy all day, you’re tired too. Come on, hurry up and go rest!" He Jinxia quickly stood up, rushing to push Sheng Yan out.
Sheng Yan let her push him, murmuring, "Am I just to be used and then sent away?"
He Jinxia paused her movements, changed the direction she was pushing Sheng Yan, and hurriedly shook her head, "No, no, go lie down on the bed first. I’ll give you a back massage!"
Sheng Yan wanted to say more, but suddenly He Jinxia pushed him hard, and he fell heavily onto the bed, head first!
He Jinxia caught her breath, blinking her eyes, she looked at her own hands and then at Sheng Yan lying awkwardly on the bed, feeling somewhat innocent like she had, perhaps, messed up again.
"Cough, cough!" Upon hearing Sheng Yan starting to cough from under the covers, Jinxia immediately ran to get water, eagerly holding it for him to drink.
Lying on the bed, after Jinxia’s mishandling, Sheng Yan’s romantic thoughts dissolved, and he just gazed at her with a look that seemed reproachful and resentful yet as if it held nothing at all, making Jinxia feel incredibly pressured.
She cautiously moved closer to Sheng Yan, her hand resting firmly on the sheet, her expression set as she closed her eyes and moved closer, her soft lips gently touching Sheng Yan’s lips, tasting sweet and crisp.
Sheng Yan’s eyes darkened. He caught her arm, pulled her forward, and He Jinxia ended up nestled in his arms.
"It was you who came to provoke me..." This phrase lingered between their intertwined lips.
The kiss this time was fierce, as if trying to capture her entire mouth. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but for them, absence had led to a fight. Having finally made up, Sheng Yan was not yet willing to let her go.
