Chapter 249: Chapter 250 Pretentious (2)
Sheng Yan went to the front desk and opened a room, signing his name emotionlessly while reminding the employee not to leak any information before he immediately headed for He Jinxia’s room.
"Ding Dong Ding Dong!"
Not long after He Jinxia had hung up the phone with Mrs. He, still in low spirits, she heard the doorbell ring. Drooping, she ran to open the door, never expecting to look up and see Sheng Yan!
He Jinxia’s eyes widened at the sight of the man’s exquisite and handsome features, as if a person from a poster had suddenly stepped out and appeared before her. She wasn’t dreaming, was she?
As He Jinxia thought this, she couldn’t help but close the door.
Sheng Yan: "..." He hadn’t even spoken yet and was already receiving such a cold reception?
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before He Jinxia opened the door again, incredulously saying, "You, you..."
Sheng Yan raised an eyebrow and took a step forward into the room, prompting He Jinxia to suddenly step back.
He advanced, she retreated... With this strange synchronized frequency, He Jinxia was eventually backed up against the windowsill.
The curtains were already drawn, and when she bumped into them, her head emitted a light but solid "thump".
That bump broke the odd atmosphere between them.
He Jinxia hissed in pain, reaching up to rub her head, dispelling the unreal feeling completely.
Sheng Yan extended his hand, his broad, warm palm covering her head, touching hers, and both shuddered.
He Jinxia tried to withdraw her hand, but Sheng Yan applied pressure, preventing her from pulling away, half-forcing, half-coaxing as he rubbed her head, his actions gentle, stroke after stroke, as if smoothing the fur of some animal.
And He Jinxia definitely fell for this, with his intermittent comforting, the frustration building in her heart suddenly dispersed.
Looking up at Sheng Yan, she saw the man gazing back at her tenderly, his usually cold features softened with a human touch, irresistibly handsome.
She knew that Sheng Yan was always indifferent to others, only she was the exception.
How could such a man fall for another?
He Jinxia didn’t consider herself anything special, but she felt that Sheng Yan was like her, the type to be dedicated to one person once feelings developed.
The one you love might not be perfect in every way, but in your heart, they are flawless.
Thinking this, a mist began to form in He Jinxia’s eyes, making them glisten.
"Are you mad?" Sheng Yan moved closer to her ear, his deep, mellow voice slowly resounding, brushing against her heartstrings.
He Jinxia blinked, dispelling the mist from her eyes, and quickly shook her head, murmuring, "No."
"Then you’re mad at me," he asserted confidently.
He Jinxia continued to shake her head, her gaze downward, catching sight of the man’s collarbone beneath his shirt, rugged and wild unlike a woman’s delicate elegance.
"If you weren’t mad, you wouldn’t have ignored me," Sheng Yan added.
As her chin was gently lifted, He Jinxia’s reddened eyes looked as vulnerable as a little bunny’s, her picturesque features, finely arched eyebrows, and sniffing nose, all making her seem quite pitiful...
And awfully tempting to tease further.
Sheng Yan’s eyes darkened, his other hand bracing on the wall, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "What are you angry about?"
He Jinxia’s eyes flickered, a panic setting in, akin to being pushed into a corner. How could Sheng Yan be so sure that she was angry? Did someone tell him, or did he guess it himself?
For Sheng Yan, He Jinxia was also someone who wouldn’t pay attention to him all night, and even calling her resulted in a busy line; she didn’t send a single message, and he felt a similar sense of irritation.
But he didn’t overthink it as much as He Jinxia did. He just felt she was in a bad mood, and he was more worried than bored.
"Stop crying, your makeup is all smudged," Sheng Yan suddenly said.
He Jinxia took a deep breath immediately to stop herself, but then quickly realized and glared at him, "I’m not wearing any makeup!"
Sheng Yan extended his thumb, gently caressing her cheek, his voice slightly hoarse, "Then why are your cheeks red as if you’ve applied blush?"
He Jinxia huffed, "That’s my natural beauty."
Going with the flow, Sheng Yan said, "Mm, Jinxia is the most beautiful actress I’ve seen without makeup."
He let go of her, instead wrapping both arms around her waist, drawing her into his embrace gently, his face buried in her shoulder and neck, breathing in the faint, delicate scent of her body, and continued the previous topic:
"What are you angry about?"
Instead of answering, He Jinxia countered, "What have you been doing today?"
Sheng Yan raised an eyebrow. Was this a room inspection?
He played with her hair strands, saying nonchalantly, "I’ve been filming all day. The last scene today was a fight scene; I was suspended on wires all day."
He paused, remembered what Zhang Ming had told him about wooing his wife, and slowly added, "My head still feels dizzy."
He Jinxia was stunned, trying to push him away to check on him, not expecting that he had been so busy today. It was her fault for assuming that everyone had it as easy as she did after she had wrapped up her scenes.
But Sheng Yan held her tightly, and she couldn’t push him away, he murmured, "Don’t move, just let me hold you for a bit."
He Jinxia stopped moving her hands, thought for a moment, and with furrowed brows, she continued asking: "Then what about tonight? Who were you chatting with, always on your phone?"
As soon as this was brought up, Sheng Yan thought of the messages Zhang Ming had investigated, his brow darkening as he held He Jinxia even tighter.
"Why didn’t you tell me about meeting Liu Mingxiang for dinner?" he asked in a low voice, with an oppressive tone.
He Jinxia was firmly pressed against his body, their heartbeats seeming to weave together, thumping in unison.
She was startled and hesitated to answer.
Sheng Yan let her go, looked at her with a heavy gaze, and asked again, "Why didn’t you tell me?"
He Jinxia stammered, "I-I was afraid you’d worry."
Regret flashed across her face, "It was just a meal, and I turned it down. It’s no big deal. Afterward, when he touched me, I even gave him a shoulder throw."
"It’s not the same," Sheng Yan said, looking at her intently.
"You only told me he’s a lecher and that after he touched you, you taught him a lesson. I understand that as an actress, you might be at a slight disadvantage in certain events, and I’ve told you to be careful, but you didn’t tell me he had asked you out for dinner."
"This isn’t just about being at a disadvantage anymore. That man is interested in you; why wouldn’t you tell me?"
That evening, after Sheng Yan had learned the whole story, he sat there thinking; if he had known earlier that Jinxia was harassed, and warned the guy, would it have prevented that person from continuing his advances towards He Jinxia?
He was very angry, frustrated that He Jinxia had kept it from him.
She should have told him right from the invitation to the meal, not keep it a secret!
