Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Possessed by the Demon
Cheng Xiaohua felt that her current state was not right, but she didn’t know how to resolve it.
After taking He Jinxia back to the hotel, Cheng Xiaohua quietly asked if she should stay with her, but He Jinxia shook her head refusing, merely saying "let me rest alone" before shutting the door with a "bang".
Cheng Xiaohua looked at the closed door, thought it over, but was still somewhat worried, so she called Luo You to explain the situation.
Luo You pondered for a moment and said, "I don’t know much about actors, but industry insiders have revealed that once they get into a role, they come out of it feeling very exhausted, and it takes a long time to recuperate. Just let her be alone to rest."
Cheng Xiaohua responded with an okay.
After Luo You hung up the phone, he thought about it and still felt it wasn’t safe, so he called a somewhat close agent friend to ask for tips on how to help actors adjust their emotions quickly, one of which was to have family members talk more with the actor.
So, Luo You called Mrs. He.
Mrs. He, hearing that He Jinxia was not feeling well, initially thought she was sick and worriedly said, "Is she overworking and fell ill again, why doesn’t she know how to take care of herself at all!"
Luo You explained, "No, Auntie, Jinxia is just a bit too engrossed in her acting, like how martial arts novels describe someone being possessed by their skills. Others have their martial arts flare-up; Jinxia had her acting skills flare-up.
But after such flare-ups, her spirits can be a bit poor and her mood tends to drop, so I was thinking you could call her and chat, offer some loving care or something."
Mrs. He expressed that she understood very well and after hanging up Luo You’s call, immediately called He Jinxia.
At that moment, He Jinxia was about to take a bath, still feeling a bit off as if her entire being had been drained, uninterested in anything yet also not wanting to sleep, feeling a sense of loss inside.
Just after picking up the clothes, her mobile phone rang. It was Mrs. He.
"Hello, mom."
Mrs. He asked with concern, "Jinxia, I heard from your agent that you were tired from filming. How are you feeling, are you sick with a fever again?"
He Jinxia took a deep breath, mustered up her spirits, and reassured her, "I’m not running a fever, just a bit tired, planning to sleep after I take a bath."
Mrs. He repeatedly asked if she was alright and once assured that He Jinxia was just tired, breathed a sigh of relief, urged her to quickly take a bath and then go to sleep, and if she still felt bad the next day to visit a doctor.
He Jinxia naturally agreed.
As soon as she hung up the phone, she threw the phone down and headed to the bathroom.
On the other hand, after hanging up the phone, Mrs. He was still a bit worried and turned to ask a question on the WeChat group, specifically tagging Sheng Yan.
Mrs. He: "Is there really a state among actors where they get too immersed in their roles and become demon possessed@Sheng Yan"
Aunt Rui was the first to see the message and asked curiously, "Why do you suddenly ask this?"
Mrs. He: "Jinxia’s agent specifically called me, saying Jinxia is in this state, worried that she might not be able to pull herself out of it so he told me to call and chat with her. She told me she was just a bit tired and wanted to sleep."
Sheng Yan was still on vacation and wouldn’t be working, Aunt Rui, seeing no reply from him and noticing Mrs. He’s worry, went to his study, knocked on the door.
Upon opening the door, there he was, diligently working as usual, his eyes focused on the convoluted curves of the stock market charts. She didn’t know how others felt about it, but they just made her dizzy.
Mrs. Sheng didn’t disturb him but sat on the sofa in the study and typed a message to Mrs. He on WeChat, telling her not to worry. She said that she would ask Sheng Yan about it once he was free and then asked how the business at her store had been recently to divert Mrs. He’s attention.
Mrs. He’s thoughts were quickly redirected, and the two shifted from discussing He Jinxia to chatting about family matters.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Sheng Yan’s voice came from beside her: "Mom, did you need something?"
Mrs. Sheng looked up at him and said, "Are you done with your work? Once you are, go and give Aunt He some advice. It seems Jinxia has been a bit possessed by her acting."
Sheng Yan’s hand paused as he closed his laptop, and he furrowed his brows slightly: "Possessed?"
Mrs. Sheng: "Her agent said that she’s been too engrossed in acting and her emotions have sunk deep into it. It seems like she’s having a bit of trouble coming out of it."
As soon as she finished speaking, she curiously asked, "Do actors really have this kind of state? It feels like practicing martial arts, can they really become possessed?"
Sheng Yan suddenly closed his laptop with a snap, closed his eyes, and gently massaged his brow as he said gravely, "It’s not practicing martial arts; this state is called ’getting into the role.’ Jinxia has a high aptitude and was bound to enter this state sooner or later. I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon."
Aunt Rui asked: "Then do you have any solutions?"
Sheng Yan lowered his hand and opened his eyes, affirmatively saying, "Yes."
Without waiting for his mother to speak, he took the initiative: "I’ll call her in a bit to talk. Don’t worry, this state is something many actors long for. The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks."
Mrs. Sheng, seeing him speak so definitively and since it involved actor’s matters she didn’t understand, chose not to say more.
She stood up and left the study, messaging Mrs. He as she walked, asking her to relax.
After Mrs. Sheng had left, Sheng Yan thought for a while and then called Zhang Ming.
Zhang Ming answered the phone and immediately asked, "So, have you decided when to start work?"
Sheng Yan paused slightly, then asked lightly, "Isn’t it nice to have a bit more paid leave?"
Zhang Ming sheepishly said, "No, I didn’t say it wasn’t good. It’s just that I’m free now!"
He mumbled vaguely, "People started working on the eighth of the year, students went back on the twelfth, and now it’s already the seventeenth. My family gives me strange looks, all of them asking if I’ve been fired from my high-paying job. Even my girlfriend is looking at me weirdly. I finally got a girlfriend; you had better not scare her off..."
Sheng Yan remained unmoved and said coldly, "It’s not like I’m the one dating your girlfriend. Why should I be responsible?"
Zhang Ming choked on his words. In his mind, he could vividly imagine Sheng Yan coldly uttering those words, and he was so angered he wanted to rush over and strangle him right then!
But he couldn’t scold or fight, and instead had to treat him like royalty. After a long holiday, he freaking started to miss him...
Sometimes Zhang Ming even thought he might have a hidden masochistic streak.
In the silence, Sheng Yan’s voice came through the phone: "Has Director Li secured the new filming location yet?"
Zhang Ming snapped to attention and replied energetically, "No, we’re still negotiating with several Film Cities. The established Film Cities wouldn’t provide the scenes for free, but a few new ones can. Due to budget issues, Director Li is also hesitant."
That was the reason he hadn’t been pestering Sheng Yan to start work despite being incredibly bored—the film set wasn’t even confirmed yet. What were they supposed to shoot!
