Chapter 394: 0393 He’s back?

Caroline lay on the hospital bed. After being in a coma for two days, she had long since woken up, and her injuries were not serious, as Adam had not aimed to kill her.

She wanted to leave the ward to find out news about Ye Qiu, who was being pursued by Adam and whose fate was still unknown. Her heart was already as anxious as ants on a hot pan, making it impossible for her to stay in the ward.

However, two Italian royal bodyguards stood at the door, adamantly refusing to let her leave.

Caroline thought about how to escape to check on Ye Qiu’s current situation. Around eight or nine o’clock, an old man pushed open the door and entered.

Caroline was slightly stunned because the visitor was her uncle, followed by a young man who stayed close behind the elder.

"Little Caroline, you’re awake," the elder said as he saw Caroline standing by the window, revealing a smile. His aura of authority seemed to vanish in her presence, leaving only that of an elder concerned for his younger relatives.

"I want to be discharged," Caroline said directly.

"Little Caroline, you have been unconscious for two days and just woke up. Neither I nor your father wish for you to do this," the elder said calmly.

"My injuries are nearly healed, and the tavern’s business is still ongoing. I can recuperate just as well there," Caroline insisted.

"Little Caroline, there’s no need to worry about the business. We royals aren’t short of that bit of money. Just rest assured and stay in the hospital for a week," the elder’s smile was spring-like, but Caroline couldn’t feel any genuine emotion in it and only saw a hypocritical face.

"Come, sit down first and tell your uncle why you were fighting with a top warrior from the Kondgier family?" the elder abruptly changed the topic.

Caroline didn’t want to answer the question. She stepped past the elder, trying to rush out the door, but in a flash, a figure blocked her path, "Without the master’s permission, you cannot leave."

The one blocking her was the young man who had been standing behind the elder. His gaze was profound, his youthful face bore eyes almost as penetrating as the elder’s, seeming to see through people’s hearts.

"Get out of my way." Caroline wanted to strike, the ignorant guy in front of her daring to block her way.

"It’s useless. I know you are the queen of the Assassins, but you are still no match for me," the man said calmly.

Caroline was infuriated by the man before her. She saw an indifferent look in his eyes, and although it was faint, it did not escape her keen eyes.

She did not throw the punch. Her killing moves were numerous, but Caroline also knew that behind the royal family, there was a group of mysterious experts responsible for the safety of royal members.

The fact that this guy could protect her uncle was sufficient to prove his exceptional skill, otherwise he wouldn’t be standing behind such a high-ranking figure in the royal family at such a young age.

"Little Caroline, you do not need to rush out. Even if you don’t tell me, do you think your uncle cannot investigate it?" the elder suddenly spoke.

Caroline turned around and looked at the elder, only to hear him continue, "You previously deployed the family’s resources to investigate the shape-shifter of the Kondgier family and then fought with a top shape-shifter. This affair, I suspect, has less to do with you and more for someone else. Am I right?"

Caroline was moved.

Seeing that Caroline did not speak, the elder smiled and sat down on a chair, "Given the strength of the top shape-shifter from the Kondgier family, you were never their match, or else you wouldn’t have sustained only minor injuries. As for provoking an SSS-class shape-shifter, it must be because of the person you’re helping. Am I correct?"

"I know you well, Little Caroline. You have few friends, nearly none. The person you are helping must be very important to you. Yet this person is also an enemy to the Kondgier family. If I am not wrong, that person is certainly a gentleman," the elder finished with a light chuckle.

Caroline remained silent, but her expression, captured by the elder’s eyes, confirmed that everything he said was accurate.

"Little Caroline, there’s no need for you to go out so soon," the elder began, "I can tell you that Adam failed to kill the man."

"Really? How is he now?" Caroline asked quickly, her eyes flashing with curiosity.

"I don’t know about him," the elder said, "but I can tell you that Adam is the one who’s dead." Caroline was overjoyed at hearing this and murmured to herself, "That’s great, as long as you’re safe." Suddenly, it dawned on her, Adam is dead?

Only then did Caroline realize what the elder had said. The SSS-grade transformed beast, Adam, is dead? Was he killed by Ye Qiu?

However, the elder said no more. He observed Caroline’s expression and added, "I’ve told you all you wanted to know. Stay here and recover; your body is not only your own, but also a part of our royal heritage."

Caroline wanted to ask more, but the elder had already walked out of the room. Nevertheless, knowing that Adam had been killed was a relief to her. Regardless of whether or not Ye Qiu was the killer, at least it proved that Ye Qiu was no longer in great danger.

Once the elder exited the infirmary, his smile vanished entirely, replaced by an expressionless face.

"Make sure someone continues to watch over this place, and do not allow Caroline to run out," he ordered.

The young man behind him nodded lightly, his attitude respectful.

"The person who has caught Little Caroline’s attention so deeply, I think I know who it could be. Has he really come back?" the elder murmured to himself. However, what shocked him most was that this person had actually managed to kill Adam.

Although he had told Caroline about Adam’s death, the elder did not mention the billion-dollar bounty that the Kondigil family had issued because of it. Otherwise, Caroline would surely have thought of a way to escape and pursue that person, which, in the elder’s view, was absolutely unacceptable.

"Whether it’s you or not, I will not let you two meet again," the elder resolved, seemingly making a firm decision, and after instructing the young man beside him a few more times, he slowly walked away.

...

In the mountains of Italy, a squad of mercenaries was following a trail, searching for their target.

"Boss, look, there’s a cave over there," someone pointed at a cave entrance.

"Let’s go, we’ll check it out," the leader said, and the group entered the cave.

A short while later, they emerged, faces alight with joy because they had found traces of someone’s presence. The fire pit showed that someone had been there within the day as it still held a bit of residual warmth.

The men carefully surveyed the cave entrance and, following the faintest of tracks, continued their pursuit,

Half an hour later, as they followed a direction, a figure leaned against a nearby tree.

The moment captured the mercenaries’ attention.

"I presume you’ve been looking for me?" a voice casually called out from the figure in the distance.

Ye Qiu turned around, revealing his face with a smile, watching the group of mercenaries.

"Boss, it’s really the person we’re looking for!" one of them recognized Ye Qiu and exclaimed joyfully.

"It looks like the billion is ours to claim," the leader of the mercenaries couldn’t help but get excited, seeing Ye Qiu as an easy target, thinking that even if he grew wings today, he wouldn’t be able to fly away!
