Chapter 1330: Chapter 1380 Ambush

"Bang!" Li Yifei abruptly stopped spinning, releasing his grip, and the python was flung over ten meters away, crashing into a tree before coiling around it a few more times.

With that throw, the python’s joints were completely shattered by Li Yifei’s force. After sliding down to the base of the tree, it struggled for a short moment with its muscles before going completely still.

"Are you okay?" Li Yifei crouched down in front of the Miao Ethnic Group girl and asked softly.

"·#¥#¥" The girl muttered a few sentences, but Li Yifei couldn’t understand a word of it.

It was a dialect of the Miao Ethnic Group, and there were many dialects in Miaojiang. Even if you understood one or two, you wouldn’t necessarily grasp the others, let alone Li Yifei, who hadn’t studied this dialect at all.

Both Li Yifei and the girl fell silent. Li Yifei gave a slight smile and pointed to the girl’s shoulder.

The girl’s shoulder had been bitten by the python. Normally, pythons of this size rely on constriction rather than venom to hunt their prey; however, Li Yifei wasn’t familiar with this particular python, so he wasn’t sure whether it was venomous or not.

The girl pressed her hand against her shoulder, her face contorted in pain, and then she suddenly closed her eyes and fell backward.

Li Yifei quickly extended his arm to catch her by the waist, shouting her name a couple of times, but the girl didn’t respond at all. Her lips turned blue, and her jaw clenched tightly—tell-tale signs of poisoning.

Li Yifei gently laid her flat on the ground, carefully tugging at the fabric on her shoulder. Her clothes consisted of two layers made of coarse, hand-woven cloth typical of Miaojiang people, but Li Yifei’s fingers easily tore through it.

Once her shoulder was exposed, Li Yifei immediately confirmed it was venom—her shoulder was swollen and mottled with blue-black discoloration. Four distinct puncture marks made by the python’s teeth lined up neatly on her skin.

Swiftly, Li Yifei took out a small knife and made a few incisions along the bite marks. Pinning the girl’s arm down with one hand while pressing the area below her neck with the other, he applied pressure. Blood began seeping from the wounds, dark and murky, but not overly black, suggesting the venom was not extremely potent.

Despite the mild toxicity, the bite being so close to the heart meant the girl was dangerously close to dying from the venom. The best course of action at this point was to extract as much of the venom as possible to reduce her exposure.

After squeezing with his hands for a few moments, Li Yifei decided it wasn’t enough. He bent down, placed his mouth over the wounds, and forcefully sucked out the blood. Ideally, one would use proper tools in this situation, but without them, he had no choice but to use his mouth.

Li Yifei had done this a few times in the past, so he felt no apprehension. After extracting five or six mouthfuls of blood, the color of her blood gradually brightened to a healthy red, indicating he had removed most of the venom.

"Ah!" With a startled cry, the girl suddenly woke up. Instinctively, she shoved Li Yifei away, clutching her injured shoulder with both hands in a flurry of panic.

"Don’t misunderstand—I was removing the venom for you." Li Yifei explained briefly, but seeing anger still burning in the girl’s eyes, he resorted to verbal and physical gestures to clarify. He specifically pointed to the bloodstains on the ground beside her.

The girl glanced at the bloodstains on the ground and finally seemed to understand what Li Yifei had done. Her expression softened, but her cheeks flushed deeply as she peeked at Li Yifei and then quickly lowered her gaze.

Seeing her comprehension at last, Li Yifei let out a sigh of relief and gently patted her shoulder. The girl trembled and instinctively shifted backward, her face turning a deeper shade of red as she raised her head to look at Li Yifei.

"Let me take you home." Li Yifei said, again using gestures alongside his words.

Whether the girl fully understood him was uncertain, but she stood up. However, as soon as she was on her feet, she swayed unsteadily, prompting Li Yifei to quickly support her arm.

"...%%..." The girl murmured something else, which sounded like a word of thanks, before taking a step forward.

Li Yifei followed closely, sensing her steps remained unstable, so he kept holding onto her arm. The girl occasionally glanced back at him and didn’t reject his assistance, though her cheeks stayed perpetually flushed.

After walking together for over ten minutes, the girl began to feel tired. She pointed to a nearby rock, and Li Yifei helped her over to sit down. He pulled out a water bottle and handed it to her. The girl smiled, took the bottle, and drank.

It was already midday, so Li Yifei also retrieved food—canned goods and sausage snacks. The girl eyed his items curiously, then cautiously tried some when Li Yifei encouraged her. Upon tasting it, she nodded enthusiastically, happy, and quickly scarfed the food down.

Watching her eat so heartily, Li Yifei felt a sense of joy himself. In these remote mountains, sharing lunch with a Miao Ethnic Group girl had a peculiar charm to it.

Soon after, the two finished eating, and the girl pointed at herself and slowly said, "Na Yi, Na Yi," then pointed at Li Yifei.

"Your name is Na Yi?" Li Yifei asked, pointing at her in return.

The girl nodded eagerly, then pointed again at Li Yifei.

"Li... Yi... Fei!" Li Yifei slowly pronounced his name.

"Li... Yi... Fei!" The girl repeated, her voice deliberate.

Li Yifei nodded with a smile.

"Li Yifei... Li Yifei!" The girl joyfully called his name twice.

"Na Yi, Na Yi!" Li Yifei mimicked and called her name.

"Hehe..." Na Yi giggled happily, her laughter crisp and melodic.

Na Yi’s round face and large, expressive eyes framed by long lashes had a natural innocence. Her pure and unspoiled beauty surpassed even the women back home, leaving Li Yifei momentarily captivated.

Na Yi’s laughter abruptly stopped as her bright eyes gazed at Li Yifei, carrying an inexplicable shyness.

Feeling flustered, Li Yifei quickly flashed her a wide smile and started packing up their belongings.

Na Yi, still watching him, blushed once more and helped him gather the items. During their tidying, their hands accidentally brushed against one another. Though the action was innocent, Na Yiʼs immediate reaction was to withdraw her hand in embarrassment, prompting a similar awkwardness from Li Yifei.

Clearing his throat softly, Li Yifei shouldered his backpack and motioned toward their surroundings.

Na Yi stood, pointed out a direction, and took the lead. Li Yifei followed closely behind, no longer holding her arm.

The two traveled in silence, hindered by their language barrier. However, Na Yi appeared cheerful, hopping and skipping ahead, plucking wildflowers and chasing butterflies while singing traditional Miao ethnic folk songs. Her voice was sweet and pleasant, making Li Yifei smile as he listened.

Li Yifei was accompanying Na Yi partly to ensure her safety and partly because he needed a guide to lead him to a settlement. Once there, he hoped to find someone knowledgeable about the Worm Poison.

Before long, they reached a gorge surrounded by towering cliffs about thirty or forty meters high, steep and imposing. The pathway within the gorge was only about two meters wide, covered with smooth grass no higher than their shins, resembling a green carpet.

Once inside the gorge, Na Yi excitedly pointed ahead, chattering something incomprehensible to Li Yifei. He guessed she meant they were almost at their destination.

Li Yifei’s mood lifted as he walked alongside Na Yi. But halfway through, his instincts suddenly screamed danger. In one swift motion, he lunged forward, grabbing Na Yiʼs waist and rolling them both across the ground.

"Pop! Pop!" The spot where Li Yifei had just been standing erupted with strange noises—sounds of bullets piercing the earth, unmistakably fired from suppressor-equipped guns.

The shots came from atop the cliffs, the distance enough that the attackers were likely using sniper rifles. Such weapons posed an enormous threat to Li Yifei.

Although his martial arts skills had grown immensely, like Murong Yuanqing and others, Li Yifei was powerless against bullets. Once firearms appeared, even the greatest masters had no choice but to retreat since no amount of training could deflect gunfire.

Perplexed and stunned, Na Yi had no idea what was happening. Li Yifei’s sudden dive and grip rattled her, but when her gaze landed on his face, her initial panic softened, her hands dropping weakly as she gazed at him with doe-like eyes.

Li Yifei didn’t notice Na Yi’s expression as his focus remained fixed on evading gunfire. Supporting her weight, he bolted forward in a serpentine pattern, occasionally breaking into abrupt backtracking motions. Behind him, the suppressed shots continued relentlessly—pop, pop, pop.

Among martial artists, Li Yifei wasn’t necessarily stronger than Murong Yuanqing. But when it came to dodging bullets, he excelled far beyond others, an instinct honed during years immersed in heavy crossfire.

The enemy snipers were highly skilled—there were at least three of them. Anticipating his movements with remarkable accuracy, they aimed not at his immediate location but slightly ahead, a method designed to counter agile targets like him. Even masters like Murong Yuanqing would struggle to avoid such calculated shots.

As he raced toward the gorge’s exit, Li Yifei abruptly felt a surge of imminent danger. He leapt backward, narrowly escaping as an explosive erupted in front of him, filling the air with thick smoke and sending chunks of rock tumbling down the walls.

Not only were snipers lying in wait, but the gorge had been rigged with explosives. The ambush was mercilessly well-calculated—one misstep could have reduced Li Yifei to fragments.
