Chapter 1329: Chapter 1379: Danger in Miaojiang
After attending an important city meeting, Xu Shanshan and Michelle walked out of the conference building, flanked by two bodyguards—one at the front and one at the back—both highly vigilant.
Under normal circumstances, attending a meeting at the Municipal Government wouldn’t typically warrant bringing bodyguards. However, the Li family’s enemies were too formidable now, making security measures of utmost importance.
Several others exited the building alongside them, and the four blended into the crowd. While their presence seemed somewhat out of place, it wasn’t overly conspicuous. Deliberately remaining amidst the crowd further bolstered their safety.
"Oh no!" One man walking ahead suddenly exclaimed. He had stepped into a puddle of water and slipped backward, falling toward the bodyguard stationed in front of Xu Shanshan.
The bodyguard instinctively reached out and supported the man by the waist. But at that moment, two figures darted from both sides, hurtling straight toward Xu Shanshan with astonishing speed.
Their skills were clearly extraordinary. However, Xu Shanshan’s current identity—as Xu Yingying—meant it wasn’t appropriate for her to fight back outright. She let out a low cry and hastily stepped back.
At this moment, another attacker suddenly rushed in from behind, only to immediately be intercepted by the rear bodyguard. However, the two attackers from the front were still too fast for anyone to stop.
Luckily, the bodyguard in front quickly regained his footing. With a loud roar, he threw two fierce punches, landing heavy blows on the attackers and neutralizing the immediate "danger" to Xu Shanshan.
Just then, another assailant appeared from the side, plunging a dagger swiftly toward Xu Shanshan.
The stabbing motion was quick and ruthless, demonstrating the attacker’s undeniable skill. With both bodyguards tied up by other assailants and unable to assist, the blade struck Xu Shanshan’s side near her waist and abdomen.
"Ah!" Xu Shanshan cried out in pain. The attacker immediately leapt back, attempting to retreat. Meanwhile, the other three began to scatter. One of them tripped and fell flat on the ground, prompting the bodyguards to pounce and subdue him.
The entire sequence of events unfolded in less than thirty seconds. By the time the government security personnel rushed over, the other three attackers had already vanished without a trace.
"Shanshan!" Michelle screamed as she grabbed Xu Shanshan, her voice trembling with fear.
"I’m Yingying," Xu Shanshan winked playfully at Michelle.
Michelle froze briefly, startled by her mischievous expression. "What—? You..."
"Did you really think they could injure me? I’m perfectly safe. I was pretending," Xu Shanshan said.
"You scared me half to death," Michelle let out a sigh of relief but quickly realized her next move. Raising her voice, she shouted, "President Xu!" Xu Shanshan leaned weakly against Michelle, wearing a pained and fearful expression that looked convincingly like someone gravely injured.
Michelle’s earlier slip of tongue went unnoticed in the chaos.
"Get her to the hospital quickly! President Xu has been wounded!" Michelle shouted again. The two bodyguards immediately abandoned their pursuit of the assassin and came over to assist the two women. The crowd dispersed hastily while the security guards focused on capturing the fallen assassin. However, someone quickly shouted, "It looks like he’s poisoned—his mouth is bleeding black!"
"Take him to the hospital too. We must keep him alive," Michelle commanded urgently.
The security guards scrambled to carry the assassin away, creating a chaotic scene. Moments later, leaders who had heard the news rushed to the site, exacerbating the confusion. Meanwhile, Michelle and the others had already boarded their car and sped out of the government compound.
Not only had Xu Shanshan orchestrated her performance, but even the two bodyguards had been part of the act. These bodyguards were carefully chosen, given their unyielding loyalty, which assured Li Yifei that they were fit to protect his family. Once Xu Shanshan got into the car, she produced the dagger. When it had been thrust at her earlier, she deftly dodged and clamped the blade using her arm and abdominal muscles, evading harm altogether. To onlookers, however, it appeared as if the dagger had pierced her abdomen directly.
The car arrived swiftly at Li Yifei’s family estate. Instead of heading to the hospital, they opted for treatment at the estate’s own medical facilities, which boasted top-tier physicians. This wasn’t something that needed secrecy.
Less than an hour later, several municipal leaders came to visit. Li Yifei welcomed them inside and allowed them to see Xu Shanshan, who appeared unconscious.
The leaders continually apologized and expressed their outrage at the incident, also informing Li Yifei that the assassin had died from poisoning. Li Yifei, however, showed little emotion, simply stating that the issue was manageable and that he would handle the matter. After some time, he escorted the officials out.
It hadn’t crossed Li Yifei’s mind that his enemies could possess such suicide warriors. Individuals like these were practically unheard of nowadays, except among organizations driven by fervent religious zeal. This demonstrated the sheer power of his opponents.
The Song Family!
Song Zude and his companions appeared relaxed; they were the ones who orchestrated the attack. The Song Family indeed had a small group of suicide warriors—a fact entirely unknown to the outside world. From their perspective, this mission had been highly successful. Xu Shanshan had been their target, and to them, her fall into unconsciousness was even more satisfying than if Xu Yingying had been subdued.
"Elder Song, who would’ve thought Li Yifei would personally make a trip to Miaojiang?"
"Indeed, his wife was just injured, and now he’s rushing off to find something to rid his sister-in-law of the Worm. I’ve always said there’s something going on between him and that sister-in-law of his."
"Why would he go alone, though?"
Song Buyu pondered for a moment. "I suspect he doesn’t trust anyone else for this task and must have some familiarity with Miaojiang. That’s likely why he didn’t send a larger team. It seems we must hasten our preparations there too."
Song Zude nodded. "Alright, Buyu, I’ll leave this matter to you. I’ll mobilize every resource, manpower, and financial support to ensure success. The Sunx Family will also provide full backing. This time, we must ensure Li Yifei meets his end in Miaojiang."
Song Buyu grinned maliciously. "Don’t worry, Elder Song. I’ll make sure he’s buried in the Miaojiang mountains."
Miaojiang encompasses parts of Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Chongqing, Guangxi, and other provinces and cities—a vast region. Historically, it referred to the heartlands of the Huaxia Continent. Characterized by steep terrain and dense hills, the area has always been a critical point for border defenses. Zhuge Liang’s legendary campaigns against Meng Huo occurred here.
Given the expansive scope of Miaojiang, finding Miaojiang people skilled in Worm Technique is incredibly challenging—almost impossible. Fortunately, Yao Lingfu had pointed Li Yifei toward a general area, giving him a starting point. Now, he had arrived in the specified region. Even so, staring out at the rolling, boundless mountain ranges ahead, Li Yifei felt a bit daunted.
Adjusting his backpack, Li Yifei took decisive strides into the mountains. Walking for an entire day, he eventually stumbled upon a small village. The villagers here were remarkably hospitable, welcoming him warmly as an outsider.
Though the village had electricity, indicating some degree of contact with the outside world, it wasn’t the secluded type Li Yifei was searching for—one harboring practitioners skilled in Worm Technique.
After resting overnight, Li Yifei set out again at dawn, venturing deeper into the mountains.
That night, he found no sign of another village and spent the night in the wilderness again. On the third day, while navigating the forest, he suddenly heard a piercing scream—a woman’s scream—from nearby. Without hesitation, he sprinted toward the sound.
Within two minutes, Li Yifei spotted a person entangled with a massive python. It was a young woman dressed in distinctive attire of the Miao Ethnic Group. But his focus quickly shifted to the python, which was as thick as an arm. Its exact length was unclear because its body had coiled around the woman three or four times, its head biting down on her shoulder. The woman, her face pale and bluish-purple, gasped for air with her mouth wide open, clearly nearing suffocation. When she noticed Li Yifei, her eyes lit up with hope, but she was unable to utter a single sound.
The sight made Li Yifei gasp; though he had encountered pythons before, they were always water pythons. This was the first time he saw a snake of such scale in the woods—a snake intent on devouring a person.
Li Yifei darted forward, grabbing the snake by the neck. Despite his impressive strength, pinpointing "seven inches" on such a massive snake was impossible—it was unclear where exactly that vulnerable spot might be.
Given his current grip strength, his initial attempt should have crushed the snake’s cervical bones. However, the python seemed unaffected. Releasing its bite on the woman’s shoulder, it lunged toward Li Yifei instead.
The snake’s enormous strength nearly dislodged Li Yifei’s grip, leaving him astonished. Stretching his other hand out, he clamped down on the python’s neck firmly.
Increasing his force, Li Yifei’s grip finally injured the snake, causing it to flinch. With a violent motion, its body flung away from the woman and coiled toward Li Yifei.
Determined not to be ensnared by the python, Li Yifei swung his arms powerfully, twisting his body as he spun in one fluid motion. The snake’s body flailed like a massive whip as Li Yifei began swinging it.
The young Miao Ethnic girl slumped to the ground, gasping for air. Her eyes fixed on Li Yifei, filled with both awe and shock. Watching as he spun the gigantic snake—easily weighing over 180 pounds—four or five times, left her utterly speechless.
