Chapter 1058: Chapter 116 Snow Enchantress
Benjamin had assisted Detective Blackbird in capturing "Venomhand" and solving the case... that was already a week ago.
Ingrid was definitely scheming against him—realizing this, Annan immediately chose to switch homes.
He gathered players from almost all professions except for the tank and destruction wizard ones. He didn’t call for tanks because he hoped they would help protect Kafney in Noah’s care.
And he didn’t call for destruction wizards mainly because Annan felt... starting a war with Dennisiowa without notice was somewhat improper.
After all, that was a transcendent profession that couldn’t even pass the security check for the subway.
Annan still remembered the silver-tier destruction wizard who was cursed to death by Benjamin back when he was in the Twin Towers... When he was killed inside one tower, the aftershocks from his death had blown a wall in that Wizard’s Tower and the residual shockwaves spread to the other tower.
At that time, Annan, who was playing as Gerald, distinctly felt the ground shake under his feet. It was that sudden feeling of an earthquake—even Annan, who was unafraid, was immediately jolted into high alert.
And that was even in the Wizard’s Tower.
As constructs centered around the corpses of deities, built by the elves using their most outstanding technology... They were clearly much sturdier than the civilian homes and roads of this era.
Yet the explosive aftershocks from a destruction wizard’s death could almost instantly kill a shaper wizard defending with a reaction, touted as having the strongest defense.
That was not the fabled disgraced wizard "Shaper Jude" who was rumored to be defeated by an ordinary person with a single arrow.
It was a bona fide shaper wizard who had opened several layers of shields.
Shaper wizards were able to manipulate the form of matter at will without altering its essence.
During their apprenticeship, they must master a whole host of professional knowledge, such as fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and more. They must know which shield structures can withstand more impact, which can better absorb heat, the optimal shape and speed for a water knife to cut most effectively, and the speed and piercing power of drill bits made of different materials in various sizes and shapes...
Once they had thoroughly mastered this knowledge and synthesized it into their practice to advance to silver-tier, shaper wizards would become the most versatile of wizards.
It wasn’t possible at bronze-tier. Shaper wizards were a profession with no bronze-tier, and unless they became silver-tier, they could only become a "transcendent architect" or "transcendent sculptor."
—Which basically meant constructing buildings and sculpting statues with spells.
Some players had come up with better ideas; Annan knew that some were researching the use of shaper spells to make machine tools. But to reach the precision needed for machines, they still had to start at silver-tier.
Once shaper wizards reached silver-tier, there would be a significant change. The vast knowledge they had accumulated would allow them to adopt strategies specific to any enemy they faced; and with speed and precision in shaping that were extremely fast, they could shape fire, earth, water, wind—even light and metals—at will with just a thought.
In a word, a shaper wizard who had set up shields in advance only needed to pay a small price to withstand a full-force strike from a destruction wizard of the same tier.
They could always counter the opponent twice or even four times, without being countered in return.
And at that time, the strongest silver-tier shaper wizard in the world, under a destruction wizard’s attempt to suppress the explosive power of their own death, was still almost directly blasted to death or severely injured.
Now, not considering the fake destruction wizard among the Four Dark Tetrarchs.
Annan had only six destruction wizards under him. They were the least in number among all wizard schools.
Because, to adapt to being a destruction wizard, one must not be afraid of pain or death; they must possess sufficient self-sacrifice, and be decisive in both actions and behavior.
These six silver-tier destruction wizards, without exception, were all military men... and they were all quite outstanding.
There weren’t many players with the aptitude for being a wizard in the first place. Though Husky looked a bit dumb, there was indeed a minimum intelligence requirement across the wizard profession.
The Transformation School required strict logical thinking and creativity; the Shaping School demanded strong imagination and memory, at least to the level where one could accurately envision the finished interior when looking at an empty rough-housed apartment; the Decree School necessitated ample experience in giving orders, and they had to be good at speaking and conversation, possessing "leadership skills"... and their voice had to be pleasant and the diction clear.
These were somewhat reasonable, at least requiring some "positive qualities." The remaining three schools were even more outrageous...
The School of Prophets required a certain level of predictive ability. In other words, you either had to be especially accurate or notably inaccurate at guessing. Being a jinx or a bad-luck magnet was also acceptable.
The Idol School demanded "distancing oneself from the mundane" and mastering a sufficient number of "life-skills that have no direct use"—meaning, you couldn’t know how to cook, clean, repair, or build anything, but you had to be proficient in singing, dancing, reciting poetry, being adorable, reading... And preferably, you should be good at drinking as well.
Then came the Wizards of the Disabling School, who were the most numerous.
The Disabling School required an indifferent demeanor, rational calmness... as well as sufficient laziness and procrastination. It was best to be the type who, even upon striking it rich, couldn’t be bothered to go out and celebrate.
Quite conveniently, there turned out to be a good number of such players. Already, more than forty had advanced to silver... and now they had all become the hands of Winter of the Winter Principality. A Disability Wizard player with the ID "Snow Charmer," who had entered the Fog World around the same time as Husky and Thirteen Spices, had even become one of the "Ten Fingers."
This was not because she was particularly strong.
It was because she had acquired a special profession—Ice Sculptor.
At the time she entered the game, during the two-choice segment, the schools of Shaping Wizards and Disability Wizards both appeared. And she had been evenly leveling up her points... By the time she was about to advance to silver, her Instant Spells and Guided Spells, her Shaping Spells, and Spells of Disabling were perfectly split down the middle.
Add a few other requirements, and she just happened to meet the inheritance criteria for the ancient profession of the [Ice Sculptor].
The [Ice Sculptor]is what players traditionally think of as "Ice Magic."
Because a more accurate term for Spells of Disabling is "weakening."
Lowering thermal energy manifests as "frost" or "freeze"; lowering enthusiasm results in "drowsiness" or "laziness"; lowering kinetic energy manifests as "stasis" or "slowdown"; lowering the flow of curses results in "silence" or "magic blockade."
—and it’s not what’s typically called "ice magic."
But an "Ice Sculptor" genuinely "summons cold currents and frost out of thin air." She can draw strength from The Void World, calling forth ice from a world that does not belong here.
So... Maria had her guard the storerooms.
In short, she was in charge of refrigerating the collected and stockpiled supplies—like food, meat, vegetables, and the like. The daily work involved making a round through each supply warehouse, casting a spell, and then she was off the clock.
The job was extremely easy. The salary was exceedingly high.
And, to be in full charge of a nation’s food and material reserves, that indeed was a high-ranking position.
Yet Snow Charmer still felt somewhat dispirited.
Because she had originally thought she would become a big player in team control, influencing the victory or defeat of a crucial team battle.
But to her surprise, she had become a human cold storage...
This time, when Annan specifically mentioned for Snow Charmer to lead the team and gather the "hands of Winter" that he brought along, she couldn’t contain her joy.
At last, at last—she would see some living creatures!
Ah no, at last she would see some room-temperature things!
Standing outside the palace of Dennisiowa, relishing the long-lost warmth of the sun, she felt tears welling up in her eyes.
How to put it...
"It feels like a Shawshank moment."
