Chapter 551
Chapter 551: Chapter 256 Desert Casino City_2 Chapter 551: Chapter 256 Desert Casino City_2 Although Yan Fei was carrying a person, he moved with remarkable speed. While running, he took great care to avoid leaving any traces behind. After half an hour, Yan Fei had put 20 kilometers between himself and his previous location. It was only then that he allowed himself a sigh of relief, as the situation was not as perilous as before.
Just when Yan Fei thought to stop for a rest, he noticed the US Forces' 10 attack plane ceased circling and began flying in his direction. On the distant horizon, the silhouettes of Apache armed helicopters and transport helicopters appeared. In even farther reaches, a line of sand snaked swiftly toward his position.
It seemed the US Forces had once again picked up on Yan Fei's trail. However, unlike their previous direct pursuit, their approach toward Yan Fei this time was exceedingly slow and their path was meandering, as if they were uncertain of his exact position. The Army's advance, though slow and convoluted, was correct in its general direction as they appeared to be following the route Yan Fei had taken through the underground fissures.
This situation only meant one thing: that the US Forces had once again latched onto Yan Fei's trail, but evidently this time they were not relying on the position locator inside Yang Qi. Yan Fei's mind raced as he pondered why the forces behind him were still able to keep up the pursuit, then he suddenly realized he had left a small flaw exposed.
Earlier, to remove the position locator from Yang Qi's body, Yan Fei had performed a minor surgical procedure on him, resulting in two wounds that bled. Although Yang Qi's injuries had been bandaged, the scent of fresh blood lingered in the air. In this wilderness, there were no other overpowering scents to interfere, so as long as there were bloodhounds with the pursuing US Army troops, their keen sense of smell would make it easy for them to track Yan Fei and Yang Qi's direction.
The US Forces may not have known that their position locator had been removed by Yan Fei, but they were certainly aware that Yan Fei and Yang Qi had just been in that area. Now Yan Fei and Yang Qi were gone, yet a scent of blood remained. Without any other clues, they would certainly follow the scent, hence the deployment of bloodhounds to track them. The bloodhounds had to both smell the blood in the air and run along the underground fissures, which explained why the pursuit was not very fast and couldn't keep up with Yan Fei's progress.
Upon realizing the flaw he had left, Yan Fei could only feel helplessness. No plan is foolproof, and any strategy can be found flawed and countered. If you haven't discovered a way to counter, it only means you haven't identified the adversary's flaw and lack imagination. Thus, despite having escaped the main encirclement of the US Forces, Yan Fei had been betrayed by the scent trail picked up by their bloodhounds.
Ironically, high technology had failed to defeat Yan Fei, yet when the US Forces resorted to the most primitive method of animal reconnaissance, they firmly grasped his Achilles' heel, a great irony indeed. Fortunately, the bloodhounds' efficiency was too low to catch up with Yan Fei's pace. Additionally, the multitude of branching paths in the underground fissures prevented the US Forces from getting ahead and cutting him off.
After discovering the relentless pursuit from the US Forces, Yan Fei abandoned any thoughts of resting. He gathered his energy and continued running ahead to shake the Army off his trail and remain unfound.
In this way, Yan Fei and the US Forces engaged in an unconventional race on the wasteland – a competition of escape and pursuit. With each side using their cunning tactics, neither could significantly affect the other. To deal with Yan Fei, the US Forces deployed drones to check each branch of the underground fissures, but the terrain was treacherous, and the drones could not fly beneath to survey, relying solely on their flight above. Naturally, they were unable to ascertain what was happening below and failed to detect Yan Fei.
Yan Fei made full use of the terrain to leave the US Forces far behind. He even encountered drones flying overhead a few times, but due to the angle and the fact that it was nighttime–with moonlight above but pitch blackness below in the fissures–the drones didn't spot him and Yang Qi.
As Yan Fei sprinted, the Auxiliary Brain suddenly sent him a message: “Special item detected, Drone Upgrade essential items.”
Upon receiving the message, Yan Fei was startled and immediately ceased running. The drone had gone dormant due to exhaustion of Energy Points, which caused the Auxiliary Brain to shut down earlier, leaving Yan Fei unable to contact it. Unexpectedly, what should have been a deactivated Auxiliary Brain came back to life and sent a message to Yan Fei, and it was about the essential items required for the Drone Upgrade.
Confused, Yan Fei tried to activate the Auxiliary Brain, but there was no response–it indeed seemed shut down. So why would the Auxiliary Brain suddenly send him a message? Could it be that this notification was independent of whether the Auxiliary Brain was on or off? Or did the essential items for the Drone Upgrade take precedence over all else, forcing the Auxiliary Brain to break through certain restrictions and send this prompt forcefully to Yan Fei?
