Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Reading Face Through Hemp Clothes
Peter Brown wasn’t aware of what the taxi driver had gone through. From Peter’s perspective, although the jade talisman was valuable, the driver was a good person. If he could help him, he should. He wasn’t, however, sure if he could help.
After offering the jade talisman, Peter headed in the direction of the agreed place.
Now, Peter’s mentality had changed. He cared less about wealth. The jade talisman might be valuable in the eyes of others, but he did not consider it to be a big deal.
Sure enough, he turned around to find a large car dealership. It had many branches and specialized stores for selling cars.
Reading the sign, Peter walked towards a store that specialized in high-end cars. This was the store that Briar Henderson had recommended. Judging by its facade, it seemed pretty impressive and quite spacious.
In fact, upon entering the store, Peter was taken aback by the sheer number of cars. Looking at these vehicles, he saw that price tags ranged from hundreds of thousands to millions.
Several cars even approached the two million mark.
Seeing these cars, Peter sighed privately and thought that there were still many rich people in this country. The price of one car was equivalent to a sum that ordinary people could never earn in their lifetime.
Thinking this, Peter abandoned his original plan of buying an expensive car. He asked himself, ’I only need a commuting car, why should I buy a ridiculously expensive one? Any car will do.’
As soon as Peter walked in, the salespeople glanced at him.
Initially, they thought a wealthy client had arrived and planned to approach him. However, upon seeing his simple attire and his shoes covered in mud, with even some parts of the leather worn out, they immediately dismissed Peter as a penniless man who was just browsing.
The salespeople, who were adept at judging their customers by their appearances, shook their heads secretly when they saw Peter. They believed that someone dressed like him could not possibly be wealthy. He must be here just to browse.
A few self-proclaimed sales experts, used to interacting with wealthy clients, hid their displeasure and pretended not to see Peter.
The others, pretending to greet other customers, ignored Peter as well.
At that moment, Peter was still curious about the cars. With his hands behind his back, he strolled around the store, looking from one car to another.
Peter knew that Briar Henderson would definitely buy a car for him today. Therefore, he wanted to see which car he would like best.
As he looked at the cars one by one, Peter came to a car with a price tag of over one hundred thousand. He thought that this car was suitable, not too expensive and functional.
Peter was about to touch the car when a voice came over, "That car costs over one hundred thousand. Don’t damage it."
Peter was taken aback and turned around to find a woman, who had a bit of a cunning look about her, making the comment.
After saying this, the woman enthusiastically approached two well-dressed individuals.
Even the slowest person would realize that the woman was looking down on him at this moment. Peter shook his head, not wanting to stoop to her level.
Seeing Peter inspecting the lower-priced cars, these salespeople were even more convinced that Peter was a man without money.
At this point, Peter happened to walk up to a off-road vehicle priced over one million eighty thousand.
Just then, a man was coming out of the car. Peter was curious and wanted to sit in the car to get a feel for it.
"What’s wrong with you? Look at your shoes! If you dirty the car, can you afford to pay for it? It’s a nearly two-million-car."
The salesman serving the stylish-looking individuals shouted.
"Comrade, this car is not for casual test rides."
Another female salesperson added.
"Isn’t it okay to feel it?" Peter asked.
"Can you afford it?"
The male salesman looked at Peter dismissively.
Peter replied, "Just because I can’t afford it, does that mean I can’t experience it?"
"Try this car, feel the spaciousness inside."
The flirtatious woman who spoke initially guided the well-dressed man and woman over. She intentionally blocked Peter from the car and invited the couple to sit in the car, asking them to feel the spaciousness inside the car.
"Why can they feel it but I can’t?" Peter asked.
"Can you afford it?" The male salesperson retorted.
"They haven’t bought it yet, they’re just feeling it too. Why can’t I?" Although Peter didn’t want to stoop to their level, he couldn’t help but voice his thoughts given their disdain for his appearance.
"What’s up with you, farmer? If you can afford it, buy it; if you can’t afford it, don’t disturb others when they’re viewing cars."
Seeing that Peter was somewhat affecting the couple’s car-buying behavior, the flirtatious woman was unhappy. She vented her dissatisfaction with Peter.
"Please!"
The male salesperson wasn’t happy either, making a gesture for Peter to leave.
Another female salesperson made the same gesture, asking Peter to leave.
Shaking his head, Peter saw Edward Martin and Briar Henderson accompanying a sharp-looking middle-aged man coming over.
By now, Peter was speechless at their judgemental behavior. He thought that even if he had the money, he shouldn’t spend it here.
Thinking this, he started walking towards the exit.
"Peter, why are you going out?"
"The service here is too poor. I’ll try another place."
Peter’s words stunned Briar Henderson, who had a smile on his face. He turned to Peter, "What happened?"
Peter pointed to the store and said, "Briar, no matter how rich I am, I can’t spend my money in such a place. Let’s go somewhere else. I won’t waste my money here". Despite not wanting to engage with those people in an argument, Peter wouldn’t spend his money here. Saying this, he walked out.
His words immediately changed the expression on the face of the middle-aged man who had come with Briar Henderson. He frowned and shouted angrily at the staff inside, "What happened? What did you do?"
"Peter, I know this place well. Come on, let’s go inside and look around." Briar, who had not realized what had happened, spoke.
Peter waved his hand and said, "Forget it. Given my appearance, I can’t afford a car here. I’ll go to another place and buy a car for myself. And it doesn’t have to be so expensive."
Now Briar understood that Peter had been slighted inside. His face turned gloomy, and he said to the middle-aged man, "Well, well, Darren Harris, you just wait."
Having said this, he quickly followed Peter out.
Edward Martin also gave Darren Harris a gloomy look and said, "Dare to disrespect my brother, you wait."
Darren Harris was the manager of this store. He had expected Briar’s visit to be an opportunity to strengthen their relationship. But he never expected this to happen. What troubled him most was that he didn’t know what had gone wrong.
