Chapter 1781: Chapter 1779: Two Stars
People of one-star rank face a high mortality on the battlefield, and Peter Brown was well aware of this; hence, upon entering the battlefield, Peter did his best to keep a low profile, gravitating towards areas where his side held an advantage.
However, the situation now filled Peter’s heart with fear; despite his efforts, his side’s condition was not very good, with many casualties.
Over two hours later, Peter’s side finally secured a narrow victory.
After clearing the battlefield, the Army finally settled down for rest; upon inspection, what was once an Army of tens of thousands now had fewer than ten thousand left, greatly diminishing the Army’s morale.
Peter now understood the entire structure of the Army, arranged from bottom to top: Sergeant_Major, Junior Captain, Squadron_Captain, Major, Brigadier, division commander, Commander, and Marshal.
Currently, Peter was merely a soldier in a squad.
He covertly observed that, generally, Sergeant_Majors were chosen from individuals of one-star rank, Junior Captains included some Two-Star ranks, while Squadron_Captains were mostly Two-Star, some Three-Star, and Majors included some Four-Stars and Five-Stars. Higher ranks than these were not seen by Peter as their unit was comprised of a few Majors without a Brigadier; therefore, the highest cultivation level was among the Five-Star People.
"The Major requests your presence," said a messenger who came running just as Peter sat down.
Hearing that the Major wanted to see him, Peter understood that he might be promoted.
Indeed, upon entering a large tent, several Majors turned their gaze towards him.
The Chief among them, who was the Major of their unit, inspected Peter from top to toe, then said, "You are quite impressive, being able to defeat a four-star high-level cultivator as a one-star individual. Your military merits are commendable. Ideally, you should be greatly promoted, but given your current level of cultivation, you can only become a Junior Captain at most. What do you think?"
"I just took advantage of an opportunity; I don’t deserve full credit, so I am not seeking any rewards," Peter replied.
The Major smiled slightly and said, "We cannot not reward you. Here’s what: we’ll reward you with a middle-level version of the Blood Slaying Three Moves cultivation technique, an enhanced version. Also, we’ll promote you to Junior Captain and agree to your entry into the Qi Luck Tower to increase your luck."
"Thank you, Major," Peter responded.
Peter’s eyes lit up. The national Luck was held within the National Qi Tower, the Army’s luck was a part of the national Luck. After a victorious battle, each unit of the Army would award according to merit, and the most significant reward was entering the Qi Luck Tower to increase one’s luck.
Peter was pleasantly surprised that he had this opportunity.
Seeing Peter’s happy demeanor, the Major sighed and said, "Although you are now a Junior Captain, we have no soldiers to assign to you, so enjoy the benefits for now." As he spoke, he threw a storage bag to Peter saying, "Your credentials and everything you need are in there, take it to the Qi Luck Tower to increase your luck. After this victorious battle, we should have gained some luck."
Peter didn’t care how much luck there was; he felt that he was very close to breaking into the Two-Star rank. If he could increase his luck this time, his entry into the Two-Star rank would allow him to use more abilities, which would be greatly beneficial.
The Army’s Qi Luck Tower was simply constructed, nothing particularly special. When Peter arrived, he saw many people already sitting cross-legged on the Qi Luck Tower.
"Here to increase luck?" asked a Four-Star high-ranking individual, eyeing Peter.
"Yes," Peter replied.
"Hehe, you’re too late!" the person said.
"What do you mean?" Peter asked, alarmed.
A Three-Star individual nearby sighed and said, "The luck in the military is supposed to be for those who have made contributions, but look up there!"
He shook his head continuously as he spoke.
Peter didn’t understand the situation; for him, quickly enhancing his rank was crucial.
"Stop daydreaming, get on there quick, or there won’t be any luck left."
Only then did Peter realize the critical fact that after each grand battle, the Heavenly Reward included certain amounts of luck, which weren’t abundant. If many people absorbed it, not much would remain.
Looking at those seated on the Qi Luck Tower, Peter understood that although they said they were rewarding him, there actually wouldn’t be much luck left for him.
With no time to think further, Peter ran towards the Qi Luck Tower.
Observing Peter’s actions, several high-level cultivators shook their heads, thinking that even if this young man had merits, there probably wouldn’t be much luck left for him to collect on the Qi Luck Tower.
Seeing Peter running towards them, the individuals on the Qi Luck Tower revealed smiles, having absorbed the majority of the luck. There was hardly any luck left for this latecomer.
After quickly sitting cross-legged, Peter immediately felt a flow of Luck enveloping him right at the center.
It truly was a special tower!
Before he could think further, some luck started to arrive.
Peter disheartenedly realized there really wasn’t much luck, just a small convergence occurring there.
Without time to consider, Peter directly started employing his recently improved Devouring Technique.
This technique was something Peter had developed while in the Lower Realm, and it was uncertain if it would apply here. After trying it, Peter’s eyes lit up with surprise as his Devouring Technique worked even here, drawing all nearby luck towards him and then into his body.
Good!
Peter fully opened his spirit, allowing substantial amounts of luck to flow into him.
Having reached the peak of the One-Star rank, the influx of luck now enabled his cultivation arts to draw more energy from the Horizon Sky.
Then, these two types of energy converged into star power.
With a continual stream of star power accumulating, Peter channelled the star power towards the barrier.
The first attempt failed!
After gathering more star power, Peter launched another assault.
After this second attempt, Peter noticed that his barrier had finally burst open, propelling him into the Two-Star tier.
Fantastic!
Peter’s heart swelled with excitement, more than he had ever felt before. In this Divine Realm, he now had many more abilities at his disposal. Possessing these abilities meant he had the means to survive—an ultimate victory.
