Chapter 1687: Chapter 1685: The Follower
After resting in the village for three days, Peter Brown knew that everyone had almost enough time to think about his situation, and it was time to gauge the sentiments of the people.
Upon returning to County Town, Peter didn’t make any phone calls. Instead, he sent a mass text to the personnel from the branches that were always considered part of his network, inviting them for a meal, which was meant to be a farewell dinner.
Sure enough, when it was time to eat, several people mentioned they were busy and could not attend.
"Manager, are you really going back to the village to develop?" Leah Nelson asked with concern.
"Yes, the countryside also has potential that can be tapped into. I plan to start with small projects, gradually expanding. Think about it, would you like to join me?"
"I’ll think about it."
After glancing at Leah Nelson, Peter simply motioned for everyone else to come inside without saying much else.
As people entered one by one, Peter looked around and saw that about thirty people had come. These were all types of people, some who depended on him, others who were originally Henry Ford’s people but had later come under his protection, including several officials with whom he maintained good relations.
At first, no one said much. After eating for a while, a team leader asked, "Manager Walter, what kind of projects do you really have in mind that made you suddenly decide to start your own business?"
Seeing everyone’s eyes on him, Peter smiled and said, "You all know what I am capable of. I have some small inventions and am thinking of starting a company to turn these inventions into reality. The company is bound to grow big in the future. Even though there isn’t a company now, I believe in myself."
Peter spoke as if it were half-truth.
Listening to Peter’s words, a woman spoke up, "Aren’t companies, especially technology companies, usually started in the provincial capital? Why would you start one in a village?"
"I believe that a company can develop even in a village. Folks, even though my company is nothing much now, I have confidence in developing it. The purpose of inviting you all for a meal today is to discuss this. If you believe in Peter Brown, come join me. Of course, it’s voluntary. If you’re not interested, no worries. If you’d like to join me, you can come to see me within the next two days."
Peter made his intentions clear, wanting to see how many truly believed in him.
Although Peter knew that by doing this he made everyone uncomfortable, his next steps in development were not ordinary; they were exceptional. He did not want to take just anyone with him, only those who firmly followed him were worthy to join him in moving forward.
Sure enough, when Peter clearly spoke his intentions, everyone’s facial expressions became complex.
The atmosphere at today’s meal was far from lively, and one by one, people left after finishing their meals.
Peter did not show much emotion and didn’t speak much to those who used to be closest to him, and he left the same way. He needed everyone to think for themselves.
When he got home, Sadie Smith immediately asked Peter, "Peter, in these two days, a few people have come to ask why you’re leaving the company. Are you really planning to leave?"
"Yes, I plan to start a business back in the village. What do you think?"
"I don’t have much to say, wherever you go, I’ll follow."
Sadie Smith really didn’t have much to consider.
After making Peter a cup of hot tea, Sadie mentioned, "Mr. Carter has come by twice, I can sense the hesitation in her heart."
Sadie held this female manager who followed Peter in high regard.
Peter smiled and said, "A person’s decision determines their future development. The choice is theirs to make, everyone is worried about making the wrong choice. I am heading back to the village to develop, so it’s understandable if some don’t want to follow."
"Peter, I feel that the choice depends on whether the person you are following has a promising future. If you are convinced of their potential, you shouldn’t mind short-term gains and losses."
Peter looked at Sadie in surprise and said, "You have such thoughts?"
Sadie smiled and said, "From my perspective, following you is a promising endeavor. Whatever you do, I just need to follow."
"How do you have such thoughts?"
"Nothing else, you were able to progress from a migrant worker to a branch manager in such a short time, showing great potential. It indicates you are an extremely intelligent person. Such a smart person wouldn’t just give up a good position to start his own business without good reason. Therefore, anyone sensible should realize that you have a better plan, and even the potential to achieve more. If not with you, then who else should one follow?"
"Ah, you really see things clearly!"
Peter felt increasingly that he should view Sadie Smith in a new light.
Sadie just smiled and added, "It’s the clarity of being an observer. Everyone else sees the risks of your entrepreneurship, but actually, you haven’t faced any oppression, and your future hasn’t been affected. In such a situation, starting a business all of a sudden means either you’re out of your mind or you have your own confident plans."
"Don’t you think I’m out of my mind?" Peter asked with a laugh.
Sadie laughed and replied, "You’re definitely not out of your mind. I observed as soon as you walked in the door, you were lucid. And now, you’re still very lucid. There’s only one conclusion, you are planning something bigger."
Peter laughed heartily. He hadn’t expected there to be someone so perceptive at home, and he truly had underestimated this woman.
"When you have time, focus on learning some things. I’ll provide you with a better life in the future!"
This woman truly understood him!
Peter sighed, thinking about those he had met today, wondering how many of them understood him and dared to take the risk.
Indeed, for city dwellers, developing in a rural area is a hurdle. Peter wanted to test whether they had the courage to overcome this hurdle. Those who dared to cross would have their future secured; otherwise, they couldn’t blame him.
A day passed, and the next morning Peter sat at home, contemplating his development direction without going anywhere. His sole purpose was to wait for those who would come to declare their intent to follow him.
Unfortunately, a full day passed, and not a single person came to express their willingness to follow him.
Seeing this, Peter couldn’t help but sigh quietly—the truly risk-taking individuals were still a rarity.
