Chapter 1663: Chapter 1661: Targeted Measures
Two days had passed, and while everyone was out gathering information, Peter Brown could be seen sitting in his office every day, with no intention of going out.
When they saw Peter’s approach, there were all sorts of comments. Everyone speculated that after learning about the project, Peter had given up hope and simply decided not to act.
What they didn’t know was that Peter’s information network was extremely formidable. All information concerning the project had been gathered to him, and it could be said that he had completely understood the situation of all parties without leaving his house.
So that’s how it is!
Now, after eavesdropping, Peter had summarized and analyzed various pieces of information.
The project was indeed almost predestined for Madison O’Donnell, as everyone guessed. Although Huxley Taylor from the city also wielded some power, it was not enough to threaten Madison O’Donnell.
From various phone conversations, it was known that Madison O’Donnell indeed represented a certain leader, and that leader was in charge of this project. This capital increase was orchestrated by that leader.
Looking further into the power behind Huxley Taylor, that power too was significant, if only slightly less than the person behind Madison O’Donnell.
Peter even knew some secrets not known to the public, such as the fact that everyone thought Huxley Taylor’s backer was a county leader. In reality, his true support was his sister Marina Taylor, a woman in the province who was also the mistress of another leader.
After compiling all the information, Peter sat in his office, tapping on the desk, contemplating a solution.
Clearly, his own company ranked third for this project. Overall, his company was very powerful, but its strength seemed rather weak compared to those two powers. If he wanted to achieve anything, he first needed a powerful backer who could speak for him, and then he needed to eliminate those two forces.
A backer?
At this thought, Peter shook his head. He really didn’t have any backers right now. Even if he could remove those two powers, he still lacked someone to support him from behind.
It seemed he first needed to find a backer.
While pondering these matters, Leah Nelson walked in.
First, she helped Peter refill his teacup, then Leah Nelson said, "Brother Wang, there are all sorts of discussions going on in the company, and there are many opinions regarding the Riverwater Valley Reservoir project."
Without thinking, Peter knew that everyone must be saying he was incompetent.
Smiling at Leah Nelson, Peter said, "Let them say whatever they want."
"Brother Wang, this time I feel like everyone is looking forward to seeing you fail."
Ever since something ambiguous had happened between her and Peter, Leah Nelson spoke to Peter much more casually, and she seemed wholly devoted to him.
"This project indeed poses certain difficulties."
Peter made a noncommittal comment.
"Brother Wang, I’ve been looking into this project these last two days as well. Here’s some information I’ve gathered. See if it’s of any use to you."
Seeing Leah Nelson hand him a document, Peter took it and began to read.
After reading, Peter shook his head inwardly. Ordinary people like them only saw the surface and were unaware that the interests had already been divided behind the scenes. Acting based on their research, no matter how much effort was invested, would be futile.
However, Peter complimented her aloud, "Not bad, well done."
Leah Nelson smiled and said, "As long as it’s useful to you, I’ll keep reporting any information I hear in a timely manner."
Glancing at Leah Nelson, Peter noticed she was wearing a skirt, and she looked very attractive.
Seeing that Peter was looking at her, Leah Nelson felt pleased and turned around, saying, "Do I look good?"
"Not bad at all."
Leah Nelson laughed and said, "Okay, you’re busy, so I won’t disturb you further."
After speaking, she swayed her hips and walked out.
This woman!
Peter knew that Leah Nelson was intentionally dressing up and showing off in front of him to attract his attention.
Shaking his head, Peter went back to studying the information he had obtained.
Right, the person behind Madison O’Donnell also has adversaries!
Suddenly, an idea surfaced, and Peter considered whether he could manipulate the situation to his advantage.
Now, Peter also had his own ideas about doing things; any power that stood in his way must be removed.
Should he provoke a battle between these two forces first?
Peter was plotting to get them fighting each other.
After a careful analysis of the power of both sides, Peter came up with some ideas. The power behind Huxley Taylor was only slightly less than that behind Madison O’Donnell. If Huxley Taylor’s side could gain something that would allow them to deal with Madison O’Donnell’s backer, would they be bold enough to fight?
Of course, Peter didn’t want this battle to completely annihilate the power behind Madison O’Donnell, as that would allow Huxley Taylor to take over the project. The key was to monitor the battle between the two and strike at a critical moment. Even if they couldn’t be totally crushed, forcing them to retreat would be advantageous.
Timing was key!
After analyzing his own company’s situation, Peter knew he needed to report to Tobia Armstrong to seek his support.
Peter began typing on the keyboard again, this time meticulously collecting materials on the two powers.
A few more days passed, and as the bid opening drew near, everyone thought Peter was unlikely to gain anything from it.
At that moment, Peter placed a call to Tobia Armstrong.
As soon as the call connected, Peter said respectfully, "Mr. Armstrong, this is Peter Brown."
Tobia Armstrong had actually been keeping an eye on Peter’s activities recently and knew about the nearly sixty-million-dollar project that Peter was tracking. Although he had received intelligence suggesting that the likelihood of winning the contract was not high, he did not expect Peter to report to him now.
Considering that Peter had bypassed Henry Carter and others to report directly to him, Tobia Armstrong’s brow furrowed slightly. With his intelligence, he immediately grasped that there might be discord within the branch office.
"Is that Peter? What’s the matter?"
"Mr. Armstrong, do you have some time? I’d like to report on the Riverwater Valley project that we’ve been tracking. I feel that we still have some hope," said Peter, getting straight to the point.
Surprised, Tobia Armstrong’s eyes brightened at Peter’s suggestion that there might be a chance for the project, and he became genuinely interested.
