Chapter 1649: Chapter 1647: Peter Brown Establishes His Authority

Sitting back in his office, Peter Brown carefully reflected on today’s meeting and gained some understanding of the terms exchanged with the leaders. He now realized that his previous thoughts were somewhat naïve and acknowledged that he had learned a lot.

As for not fully siding with Henry Carter today, Peter didn’t care too much about it. Judging from Carter’s unwillingness to even give up a Deputy Minister position, it was clear that the man had never considered Peter’s interest. Therefore, it was important to build his own support base as much as possible.

Now it seemed his support truly mattered.

Of course, Peter had also thought about the possibility of the other party joining forces against him, but he was not afraid. Even if they did join hands, what would that entail other than cutting down his people? If it came to that point, he wouldn’t need to resist anyway. He would simply say nothing and let them fight among themselves again.

Having thought everything through carefully, Peter then saw Henry Carter standing at the door.

"Dexter, what’s up?" Peter quickly stood up.

"Peter, we should be open and honest with each other," Carter said with a teasing tone. "You really caught me off guard with today’s events."

Peter replied, "I didn’t consider appointing a Deputy Minister to be a big deal. I didn’t expect that just a Deputy Minister would disrupt your plans."

With no choice, Carter could only laugh and say, "We should communicate more from now on. Let’s leave today’s matter as it is."

This meant he did not want their relationship to become strained.

Seeing Carter speak this way, Peter also smiled and said, "I’ll treat you to dinner today as an apology."

With a laugh, Carter responded, "Alright, let’s go have a couple of drinks and talk some things over."

Upon hearing Peter’s invitation, and remembering how Peter declined Matthew Clarkson’s dinner invitation, Carter realized that Peter was, after all, on his side, which brightened his mood somewhat.

The two chatted briefly before heading outside.

Shortly after they left, the entire branch office became aware of today’s meeting, and the developments during the session were widely discussed.

Suddenly, everyone realized that Peter Brown was not a simple character. Despite being a newly promoted leader, he had taken the upper hand at the meeting and managed to place many of his own people in positions of influence.

Those aligned with the Ford faction had been anxious, fearing job reallocations. Now, they learned that it was Peter who had protected and even promoted several of them. Immediately, they shifted their loyalty from Henry Ford to Peter, recognizing him as the one who could truly stand up for his subordinates.

Meanwhile, in the Integrated Office, Imogen Jones felt extremely conflicted. She had spent a lot of effort to curry favor with Azrael Richardson, hoping he would assist her in some way. In the end, the Richardson family had been completely ineffective at the meeting, while Leah Nelson, who had early on sided with Peter, reaped the rewards, becoming the Deputy Director and now Imogen’s superior. Thinking of this, Imogen was green with regret for not having sided with the younger and more powerful Peter instead of Richardson.

With this realization, Imogen decided that her next step should be to join Peter’s side.

The situation in the Integrated Office was one thing, but in the Engineering Technology Department, it was even more eventful. No one had anticipated the turn of events. Milo Harris sat there with a grim expression. He had always been proud and had looked down on Peter, a leader with a farmer’s background. When making his choice, he had secretly sided with Matthew Clarkson early on, intending to be on good terms with Fahad Thompson and maintaining a positive relationship with Azrael Richardson. In his mind, securing the Department Head position should have been no problem as long as Peter did not oppose him. But, when Clarkson recommended him, Peter had outright rejected it, instead recommending Salem Hill from his own team. This unexpected development took Harris completely by surprise.

Looking at Florida Collins, who seemed quite excited, Harris felt a deep sense of injustice. He was a graduate of a famous university in Kingston, and what was Collins? Just a college graduate from the provincial city. Why should she be the one to rise to the position of Department Head in the Management Department?

As the Engineering Department congratulated Collins, each person’s thoughts were complex. Quite a few were filled with regret, recognizing only after the fact that Peter’s visit had been a chance to see who would side with him first. At that time, everyone was thinking of the two experienced individuals, Clarkson and Richardson, as the most powerful, not giving Peter a second glance, much less considering meeting him. Now, everything had unfolded in such a way that they were all at a loss.

Seeing Collins quietly advance in rank, they realized she must have visited Peter the day before—a missed opportunity for them!

The more they thought about it, the more uneasy they felt. Recalling Peter’s statement about clearing out the staff in the Engineering Department if they couldn’t get the job done, a sense of urgency welled up within everyone. Peter was subtle in his approach; one false move, and he could take you down.

The staff cast furtive glances at Fahad Thompson’s seat. Once the meeting dispersed, Thompson went straight to Richardson’s side and left upon returning. Now that he had gone all in, it seemed hard for him to turn things around. Even the post of Deputy Manager he had coveted now seemed out of reach after losing his role as Department Head.

Anyway, there were various discussions, and the consensus was that everyone would need to be more cautious around Peter in the future. This young man was to be taken seriously, as he could deal with anyone who was not attentive.

Meanwhile, Peter Brown was sitting with Henry Carter and Rush Jones, drinking wine, unaware that behind his back, he was regarded as a formidable figure in the branch office. Moreover, many were already contemplating throwing their support behind him.
