The conversation with Henry Ford had some impact on Peter Brown’s mind. On the way back to the hotel, Peter pondered the matter. Although he wouldn’t accept all of Henry Ford’s words, some of the content was certainly worth deep reflection.

When looking inward toward his area below the navel, Peter found his vision there to be clearer than before, and he even felt that, with further progress, he might be able to harness some of the energy within.

Peter had just arrived at the hotel when he received a call from Henry Carter.

Henry Carter was obviously very pleased as he laughed heartily, "Peter Brown, I saw your car return. Come to my room, let’s have a chat."

Like Peter, Henry Carter had returned for a discussion, and he was now finally a manager, which made him very happy.

After asking for the room number, Peter headed to Henry Carter’s room.

Upon seeing Peter, Henry Carter immediately grasped his hand tightly and said, "Now we two must form a team, hehe."

"Anyway, I’ll follow Dexter’s lead." Peter knew what the other party was thinking and simply said what the other party wanted to hear.

Henry Carter became even more delighted and said, "Peter Brown, the friendship between us in the same trench runs deep, and I’ll need your support from now on."

"Look at you; of course I’ll support you, I just need to show my support, and from now on, I’ll follow you," Peter replied.

With his eyes squinted in joy, Henry Carter said, "Have a seat, let’s exchange some thoughts."

"Leah Nelson is quite capable in all aspects. Could you let her take the position of Deputy Director?" It was clear that Peter wouldn’t aspire to the role of Director—that was for Henry Carter to place his people. Peter simply wanted to secure the position of Deputy Director.

Upon hearing that it was only for a Deputy Director, Henry Carter smiled and said, "I think that’s fine. As for the Director, how about we have Oliver Lewis from the project side take on that role? What do you think?"

Peter knew that this Benjamin Bridge was one of Henry Carter’s men, and now he was being brought in to become the Director. Nodding, Peter said, "Oliver Lewis is indeed a good choice."

After the two settled the matter, they were both in a good mood and then discussed other positions.

Peter really didn’t have many people of his own, and if it weren’t for his interaction with Henry Ford today, he wouldn’t have bothered with Ford’s people. But now, after his exchange with Henry Ford, Peter somewhat intentionally retained some members associated with the Ford camp.

Henry Carter actually understood that, with Henry Ford not returning, Ford’s people were likely under Peter’s command now. However, he didn’t have a strong foundation himself, so the two were essentially just redistributing benefits between them.

After more than an hour of discussion, the two had nearly finished their exchanges. When they looked at each other again, both were satisfied with the current distribution method.

Of course, aside from the two of them, the branch office also had some other leaders. But even with some leading members, what could it matter? They two were now ranked first and third—with the second likely not having much power. For the five team members, they just needed to pull in one more to be enough. After tossing a cigarette to Peter, the two lit up and took a puff. Henry Carter said, "The candidate for Secretary is someone transferred from another company, and the remaining Deputy Managers are Azrael Richardson and Rush Jones. Harry Woods gets along well with me; I will communicate with him."

Peter smiled and said, "I just need to take care of my own responsibilities."

Henry Carter chuckled and added, "Azrael is a bit hot-tempered and is probably not too happy with the situation this time."

Peter nodded and said frankly, "No outsiders here, so I’ll speak plainly— he intended to be the manager."

Henry Carter’s eyes flickered for a moment and he said, "It’s not for just anyone who wants it to have it."

The two exchanged looks but said no more about Azrael Richardson.

Peter was well aware that Henry Carter was wary of Azrael Richardson; after their struggle for the position of manager, and now with Henry Carter in charge, was Azrael supposed to be comfortable? Thus, it seemed that the first target for their collective pressure would likely be Azrael Richardson.

As for Rush Jones, who was still serving as the Deputy Manager of the branch office while also juggling the role of project manager, Peter wasn’t entirely clear on his stance, having rarely met him, but sensed that he wasn’t one to vie for power and that he had a good relationship with Henry Carter. If so, that would mark the formation of a trio alliance.

Regarding the newly transferred Deputy Secretary, both men weren’t particularly concerned. A Deputy Secretary often dealt with documentation and, in a technology-driven enterprise like this, would at most handle some publicity matters and would not have much say.

After thinking over Henry Carter’s views carefully, Peter had pretty much grasped Carter’s intentions. He was not worried about losing his position to Peter in the short term, as Peter’s advancement had already been quite rapid, and there would be no further promotions in the near future. Therefore, for him, securing Peter’s alliance—the support of someone who posed no threat—was beneficial. Currently, Henry Carter’s main priority was likely to take down Azrael Richardson, the true threat to him.

With things having developed to this stage, Peter was actually quite content. It was something he had never even dreamed of before: becoming a Deputy Manager in such a short span of time felt surreal.

If it weren’t for his concern that Rylan Williams might target him, he might even lose his drive to advance.

Peter planned to seek no conflict, vie for nothing, and silently strengthen himself.

He needed to get his educational credentials sorted out. As long as he performed satisfactorily at the branch office, that would suffice. Now he could devote plenty of time to dealing with the Carter Clan.

Of course, ever since making a name for himself, Peter believed that the Carter Clan would not provoke him for a while, since doing so would bring no significant benefits to them and might even backfire.
