Chapter 1611: Chapter 1610: Picked Up Another Bargain
Maintenance of the mobile game and such were remotely handled by Peter Brown, and given some settings he had implemented during development, there wasn’t much to do. After discussing a few things with Reid Nelson, Peter soon left.
He arrived in a hurry and left in a hurry too, without even taking the time to explore the provincial city properly.
However, seeing the bustling city, Peter believed that sooner or later, he would come here himself.
Sitting on the train, after Peter had reconsidered the whole situation, he made up his mind that if Rylan Williams still wanted to target him, he would not mind taking down the Carter Clan completely.
Of course, Peter also believed that after today’s incident, Rylan Williams probably wouldn’t confront him head-on for the time being since causing him trouble wouldn’t benefit him either.
Setting this issue aside, Peter then pondered over what direction to take next.
Uncle had a million dollars, and it was unclear how he was managing it. Reid Nelson clearly was a doer, taking the mobile game business seriously and seeming to handle it well. She also had some classmates helping, so there likely wouldn’t be big problems. The real question was, what direction should he take next?
After grabbing a bite at a small stall, Peter returned to the construction site.
Night had fallen, and upon returning to his room and sitting down, Peter decided to call his uncle.
The moment the call connected, Archie Williams exclaimed loudly, "Is that you, Peter? I’m here with your dad. Things at the stone factory are almost sorted; this time we’re going to make a big impact. Do you need to come over for the company’s business license?"
"No need, just put my dad’s name on the license. I don’t want to be involved in the company’s affairs; you can handle everything."
After thinking for a while, Peter really didn’t want to get too involved in the stone factory. Since his father was interested, letting him handle it was not a bad idea.
Archie Williams thought for a moment and said, "I’ll discuss this with your dad. Since this is a joint venture, we don’t want to spoil the relationships if the other companies don’t perform well."
"Just follow the statutes; there shouldn’t be much of a problem."
Peter seemed indifferent.
After finishing the call, Peter chatted with his father for a while and left the stone factory matters entirely to him.
Raven Walter said, "Anyway, the company is still yours. I’m just holding a position in name. Your million dollars shouldn’t go to waste. You should be more concerned too."
After the call, Peter lay on his bed, thinking over things and after giving Reid Nelson 500,000 dollars, still had a million dollars in hand. His plan was to take any opportunity to target those involved in shady businesses. Even if he exposed them, they wouldn’t dare to report it.
Of course, Peter had already thought about where this money came from. He needed to keep picking up bargains to let everyone know the money was obtained through his shrewd purchases. As long as the mobile gaming company turned profitable, he could use the money for new investments, and then nobody would question him.
After mulling over things thoroughly, Peter picked up his books to study, as his self-examination date was fast approaching, and he needed to pass many subjects this time, feeling he’d run short on study time.
The next day at work, Peter noticed a change in how people looked at him.
Glancing at Henry Carter’s office, he noticed Carter wasn’t at work and wondered where he might have gone.
Sitting in the office, Peter was clear-minded, certain that the issue with Rylan Williams had spread.
However, Peter didn’t show that he knew about it, handling his office work methodically and competently.
Turning to look at the two quiet ladies who weren’t talking much today, Peter noticed they were unusually somber.
Interesting!
Seeing that no one came to visit in the office, Peter simply disregarded it and focused on memorizing his book content seriously.
After a while, seeing Imogan Jones heading to the health room, Leah Nelson hesitated and then said to Peter, "Director, there’s a rumor going around. Have you heard?"
"What rumor?" Looking at Leah Nelson, who today was dressed in a neat professional outfit that made her look simple yet striking due to her prominent figure, Peter recalled the night he had bumped into Leah and felt something stir within him.
Leah Nelson clearly wasn’t dwelling on those thoughts and said worriedly, "Director, the rumor says that once Mr. Williams is better, he’ll return to work. There’s also talk that you and Mr. Williams have a feud..."
Smart lady, keeping me informed!
Peter appreciated Leah Nelson for sharing this information with him at this time.
"Let’s not worry about the administrators’ affairs. We just need to do our jobs well."
"But, Director, be careful," Leah expressed her concern for Peter.
Smiling, Peter responded, "No worries, didn’t I make over a million by grabbing bargains? I’m a millionaire now; worst comes to worst, I can just quit. It’s not a big deal."
Leah laughed, "I heard about that. You’re really lucky, making money off anything you buy. When are you going to take me fortune hunting?"
Peter laughed, "Sure, we can go anytime."
"Go where?" Imogan Jones entered and asked.
"We were just talking about the Director’s last bargain find. He said he’s going to take us bargain hunting too."
Imogen Jones’s eyes lit up as she said, "Why don’t we go now? The leaders are all gone today, and there really isn’t much else to do anyway."
Peter Brown thought about it for a moment and, realizing he truly had nothing else on his plate, said, "Alright, let’s take a stroll."
They were at a construction site, and any excuse would do to get out, so the three of them agreed and left.
"Director Ye, are you going out on business?" someone asked as they saw them leaving.
"Yes, we’re heading to the county to take care of some things."
After leaving, the three hailed a taxi and headed for the Trading Market.
Throughout the ride, the two women discussed with Peter what types of things were profitable.
Soon, the three of them arrived at the Trading Market.
Once there, they saw a plethora of stalls at first glance. Peter Brown smiled and began checking out each stall with the two women.
When the trio approached a stall clearly set up by a middle-aged Farmer, Peter scanned it and was startled to find a copper mirror inscribed with the "Tao Te Ching."
Peter crouched down and asked, "How much for this mirror?" The mirror looked to be an antique, and Peter intended to use it as a potential bargain find.
The middle-aged man hesitated before saying, "This is a family heirloom."
Peter smiled and said, "Give me a fair price, and I’ll buy it if it’s reasonable, otherwise, let it be."
Leah Nelson said, "Director, it’s not an antique, is it?"
Imogen Jones also chimed in, "It obviously looks like a modern imitation, definitely not the real thing."
This response agitated the middle-aged man, who quickly retorted, "It really is a family heirloom, I’m not lying to you."
Peter laughed and replied, "I’m mainly interested in this ’Tao Te Ching,’ whether it’s old or not doesn’t really matter to me, just name your price."
"If you want it, one thousand dollars then," the middle-aged man said, not wildly overpricing it, just trying his luck.
Imogen exclaimed in shock, "You dare ask one thousand for this junk!"
Peter was indifferent, merely using the mirror as a conversation piece, and smiled, "Okay, I’ll take it."
Peter didn’t even bargain, simply counted ten 100 dollar bills and handed them over.
After the transaction was done, both women began to complain.
"Director, it’s obviously fake, how could you pay such a high price?"
"Yes, it looks just like a modern imitation."
"You’ve been tricked, Taobao has imitation copper mirrors for just a few tens of dollars each, the expensive ones are only a few hundred dollars, I could get as many as you want!"
Peter responded seriously, "I think that middle-aged Farmer must have encountered some issues, or else he wouldn’t be selling his family heirloom, let’s just consider it helping him out."
"Director, I didn’t realize you were so kind-hearted. These days, how many people setting up stalls are real Farmers? They’re just pretending."
The two women shook their heads as they walked, becoming displeased with Peter’s decision to spend 1,000 dollars on the item. They were convinced Peter had been duped.
After about two hours of walking around, when they returned to the Farmer’s stall, the man was nowhere to be seen.
Pointing towards the place, Imogen said, "See, he took your money and ran, even ditching his stall."
Peter laughed, holding the copper mirror in his hand, "It doesn’t matter now, at least I picked up something."
Just then, a long beard Taoist passing by suddenly looked at Peter and said, "My fellow, may I take a look at your copper mirror?"
Peter glanced at him, smiled, and handed it over.
After examining it for a while, the Taoist’s eyes lit up and he looked up, "Would you consider selling this copper mirror?"
Although the man appeared calm, Peter noticed his excited demeanor and wondered if he might have indeed found a lucrative item by chance. He laughed and said, "I bought it because I liked it."
The long beard Taoist said, "Would you sell it to me for one hundred thousand dollars?"
What?
The two women’s eyes widened as they looked at the copper mirror, never expecting the Taoist to offer such a high price.
Upon hearing this, Peter realized that he really did find a profitable item, surprised that even a random purchase could turn out to be so valuable.
PS: I recommend a book, "Age of Evolution." When Mason Taylor opens his eyes, he finds himself back on Earth during the great catastrophe. Everything changes because of him.
