Chapter 1605: Chapter 1604: Admitted to the Hospital

Peter Brown hardly recognized Ivy Cooper when he saw her in the hospital room. At first glance, there was a deep fear in her eyes, which were somewhat vacant.

"Sister Ivy, are you all right?" Peter Brown felt some guilt in his heart. After all, it was he who had caused the whole incident.

Peter Brown had never intended to take things so far. He simply wanted to scare them a bit, but the situation had escalated far beyond his expectations.

"What I said is true, there really is a ghost."

Upon seeing Peter Brown, Ivy Cooper raised her voice to him.

"Rest well. It’s all right now."

Peter Brown offered a word of comfort.

"Really, it was so frightening. There really is a ghost in that room." Ivy’s mental state was clearly still affected.

After comforting her for a while, everyone left the room.

"Doctor, how is she doing now?" Henry Carter asked a doctor.

"No worries, she just had a scare. Recovery will take a few days. However, her leg is broken and will need some time to heal, which means she won’t be able to go to work."

"As long as she’s okay, that’s all that matters. Thank you for your care, doctor."

At that moment, Peter Brown also saw a middle-aged man and woman. The woman bore some resemblance to Ivy, and both of them looked sullen, seemingly aware of the situation. The middle-aged man even seemed unable to lift his head.

"Uncle, Aunt, Sister Ivy should be fine. She just needs more rest and she’ll be okay."

Peter Brown started to offer comfort.

"Who are you?"

"I work in the same office as Ivy. My name is Peter Brown."

"Oh, I see. You are the migrant worker?"

Ivy Cooper’s mother seemed somewhat disdainful of Peter Brown.

It quickly dawned on Peter Brown that Ivy must have talked about workplace matters with her mother, and likely about him as well.

Peter Brown wasn’t upset, though. After all, he was the one responsible for Ivy’s situation, so if her mother held a grudge, so be it.

The mother, however, was much more polite, even somewhat ingratiating, towards Henry Carter, their superior.

Seeing Ivy’s mother behaving this way, Peter Brown could only shake his head. He recalled something he had read in a book about genetic inheritance. It stated that intelligence was inherited from the mother while character traits came from the father. It seemed this couple had passed on some not-so-great genes to Ivy; otherwise, she would not have gone astray.

While Peter Brown was reflecting on this, Henry Carter finished chatting with the Cooper family and led a few people into the Intensive Care Unit.

Here, Peter Brown noticed a man and a woman in their thirties waiting outside, looking very much like Rylan Williams and appearing extremely anxious.

Alexander Greenhill remarked, "Mr. Williams’s family has arrived."

Henry Carter introduced himself to them right away.

After glancing at Henry Carter, the woman snorted, "We told him not to come to this lousy company, but he insisted. And now, look what happened. How does your company operate, allowing women to seduce men so freely?"

Henry Carter’s face changed at these words, taken aback by the family’s aura, leaving him in an awkward position.

Peter Brown knew his place, a migrant worker at heart, not on the same level as the Carter Clan. So he simply stepped aside, pretending he hadn’t heard the discussion.

Alexander Greenhill hurriedly said, "You must be Mr. Williams’s family members, right? Now, let’s put everything aside. The salvation of Mr. Williams is of the utmost importance."

Rylan Williams’s brother said, "That’s enough, he’s not out of danger yet. Stop talking."

Just then, the Hospital Director hurried over, and upon arrival, he firmly grasped the man who resembled Ivy Cooper and said, "Director Williams, good to see you."

"How is my brother doing?"

"He has been pulled out of life-threatening danger and should recover very soon."

Upon hearing this, both of them finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Then we’ll trouble you with his care."

"No trouble at all. Dexter Carter has even made a special call about this, and he is on his way here."

It was evident that the Carter Clan did indeed possess some power behind the scenes.

Even though Henry Carter was the deputy manager of a branch office, he barely had a chance to speak in front of these people, awkwardly standing to the side.

Looking at the situation, Peter was struck with an idea and approached saying, "Mr. Carter, the boss from the provincial capital wants to talk about a deal with you, what do you say to that?"

Henry Carter was taken aback for a moment but quickly nodded and said, "Mhm, we must first handle the matters here properly, this is important."

Peter then said, "Mr. Williams’s situation is important, we will all stay here and watch over him."

Henry Carter patted Peter Brown on the shoulder and looked towards Ivy Cooper’s family members and said, "The Group has been informed about Mr. Williams’s situation. If you have any requests, please let me know so I can report them to my superiors."

"Forget it, I don’t need you to deal with this. I will send my brother to the provincial hospital today. What can this lousy place do?"

With no other choice, Henry Carter said to Peter Brown, "You all stay here and keep watch, and report to me immediately if anything happens."

Peter quickly agreed.

That brother of Ivy Cooper gave Peter Brown a glance but did not speak to him, as if talking to Peter would lower his status.

It was that woman who looked over at Peter Brown and asked, "What’s your name?"

Peter responded, "My name is Peter Brown, the deputy director of the branch office. Mr. Williams even praised me at a general meeting not long ago."

"Oh." Hearing Peter speak this way, the woman thought he was one of Ivy Cooper’s people, and she showed a smile, saying, "It’s troublesome that your Mr. Williams has encountered such an incident, we’ll be relying on you."

"Look at what you’re saying, it’s our duty to deal with this. Just let us know if you have any requests. I might not be good at everything, but assisting I can surely do," Peter replied.

The woman’s face lit up with even more of a smile, "Alright, that’s settled then."

Peter Brown escorted Henry Carter outside and spoke, "Mr. Carter, there’s no need to mind their matters. You go ahead with your work. I’ll take care of things here and report to you in time if anything happens."

Now, Henry Carter was also pondering his next moves. Considering the major incident that had happened to Ivy Cooper, it was likely he wouldn’t be returning to work. Henry knew he would have to start establishing his own power base. Peter Brown seemed astute, someone Henry could align with, which prompted him to pat Peter on the shoulder and say, "Alright, keep a close eye on things."

After seeing off Henry Carter, Peter Brown shook his head. He realized that he had actually begun to learn some tactics of officialdom and was no longer as confrontational as he used to be.

Finding amusement in this change, Peter felt that playing these games was truly enjoyable, far more fun than making money.

Of course, it wasn’t that Peter Brown had truly bowed his head. He now had his own creed: Do not offend others unless they offend me first, and if anyone dares to offend me, deal with them ruthlessly.
