Chapter 1589: Chapter 1588: Special Skill_1
After the leaders left, the two women looked at Peter Brown with complex expressions.
Peter Brown was still somewhat bewildered. He hesitated before asking Reid Nelson, "Reid, is there really such a policy for this house?"
Reid Nelson gave a bitter smile and said, "There really is such a policy for this matter, but the quota is in the hands of Edward Ford, and there is only one spot."
Ivy Cooper added, "I know about this too. The Group often has preferential housing policies to retain important talents within the company. Of course, not just anyone can get this quota, and Edward Ford only has one quota to give out each year. So many people compete for it that, due to the overwhelming demand, Edward Ford has never approved anyone, especially since we are just a branch and don’t have any particularly outstanding talents."
So, there was such a thing!
Only then did Peter realize that the favor Henry Ford had done for him was a big one.
"Is it enough for Edward Ford to agree?"
"Of course, if the quota isn’t given out within the year, then it expires. The Group is also agreeable to this approach."
"But a villa for 300,000!"
Peter Brown shook his head in amazement.
"Come on, we’re talking about property in the county, not a big city. It’s only a discount of one or two hundred thousand at most."
"Peter, anyway you’ve earned 1.5 million dollars. Spending 300,000 to buy it would still be an investment that can appreciate in value."
Peter then nodded and said, "My main concern is about not following the rules."
"There’s a Document for it. As long as you’re identified by the company as a core employee, you’re fully qualified."
"But I’m not a core employee, am I?"
Ivy gave Peter a disapproving look and said, "Man, if the leadership says you’re a core employee, then you are, and if they say you’re not, then you’re not. Don’t you even know that?"
Reid Nelson chuckled, "Ivy is right. No matter what, just buy it and don’t worry about the rest."
"Alright, I’ll make the purchase!"
"That’s more like it."
As they were speaking, Richard Brown’s phone call came through, inquiring about the house.
After listening to Peter’s explanation, Archie Williams said, "This is a good thing; you’ve got to buy a house anyway. Hurry up and make the purchase."
"Uncle, I just don’t feel confident about this."
"Are you worried something might go wrong with Edward Ford?"
"Yes."
"You don’t need to worry about that, just as long as all the paperwork is in order."
Peter, thinking about the Mobile Game and other things, hesitated.
"You need a place to live as well. Having a residence in County Town will make it more convenient for whatever you do in the future; consider it as setting up a household asset."
Hearing this, Peter felt a stir in his heart and thought it might be a good deal. No matter what his next steps were, he would need to rent a place anyway, so spending a bit more to secure it wouldn’t be a bad idea—it would be entirely up to him what he wanted to do with it.
"Alright, I’ll buy it!"
Archie Williams then laughed heartily and said, "Make sure to thank Edward Ford properly. This is a sizable favor."
After a few words, Peter hung up and looked back at the office, only to find that the two women had already left.
Sitting there and pondering over the situation once more, Peter came to a clearer understanding about Henry Ford’s agreement to let him buy the villa. It was clear now. The incident with Christian Greenhill had convinced Henry Ford that Peter had backing in the capital. With that in mind and without clear knowledge of the specifics, offering benefits to Peter would, Ford believed, tie Peter’s interests with his own. Naturally, Peter would help him when it mattered, and even if he didn’t, it was good to foster a kind relationship. Besides, if Ford were to fall from his position, the quota would expire anyway, so it seemed better to make use of it while he could.
At this moment, Peter also seemed to recall such a Document and began looking through the cabinet for it.
Upon finding the Document, Peter read through the provisions carefully and understood that the talent preferential plan was specifically for those who had made significant contributions in a certain field, or were identified as essential core personnel needed by the company, and could receive preferential treatment only if agreed upon by more than 80% of the company’s leadership members; secondly, relatives of the leadership were not entitled to any preferential treatment; thirdly, full payment must be made upfront.
Reading through this content, Peter knew this was indeed a matter of what Henry Ford declared. To be clear, it was a power granted to the branch manager by the Superior.
Of course, there were many other details, and the matter even related to the manager’s Assessment and so forth. If the Superior did not acknowledge him as a core employee, it could negatively impact Henry Ford as well.
Henry Ford was basically giving away a spot that might expire before he stepped down from his role.
Then, considering Vincent Clinton’s attitude, Peter understood that the branch’s leadership would probably not have much opposition to this matter.
Well, as long as the company truly approved it, he would make the purchase.
As he was lost in thought, Henry Ford’s call came through,
"Thank you, Edward Ford."
Peter still wanted to express his gratitude, so he thanked him.
"Peter, I’ve been thinking about this matter. There’s a situation that I need to justify to the Superior. I just want to ask, what kind of concrete skills do you have that you can show off?"
As expected, this was a sticking point!
Peter knew Henry Ford needed an excuse to fend off any inquiries from the Superior.
Hearing this, Peter thought his best skill was probably his photographic memory, but he couldn’t reveal that.
"Don’t worry about anything, Peter. I will fight for this matter with all my might; we just need a reasonable excuse."
"Edward Ford, if I said I understand English and can converse with foreigners, would that count as a skill?"
"What? You speak English and can converse with foreigners?"
"Yes, I’ve self-studied English, and Japanese, and can converse directly."
Henry Ford was quite surprised and after a moment of disbelief, he asked, "Are you serious?"
"Of course I’m serious. If you don’t believe me, have someone test me. I guarantee there won’t be any problems."
Henry Ford then laughed heartily and said, "Okay, that’s a skill indeed. Why have you been hiding this talent? Tomorrow, I’ll have someone test you. If you pass, you’re a core employee. Not only does our branch need someone like you, the Group does too, as a talent like yours is invaluable!"
Henry Ford was elated as he laughed and ended the call.
Peter, holding the phone, was speechless. Securing a house had become so complicated.
But thinking about soon owning a villa, Peter felt really good.
After eating and returning, Peter pondered over the matter again. Since it was a group decision, even if someone tried to cause trouble later on, it wouldn’t matter. He decided to go ahead with the purchase.
