Chapter 1583: Chapter 1582: Changing Situation_1

Investing in Second Uncle was essentially letting his own family make money. Peter Brown also understood Second Uncle’s intention, and thus, he didn’t let him own too many shares. Anyway, he wouldn’t interfere too much regardless of how well or poorly things went. At the same time, it provided another source of income for his parents, so they wouldn’t have to worry about money.

By now, Peter had a fairly good grasp of the situation in this Group company. It was a provincially-owned enterprise where even leadership appointments came directly from the Provincial Government House. This meant that if he could become the company’s CEO, he might even be able to directly enter a government department and continue to advance his career.

If he really did make his way up in such a company, it could well become a path to officialdom.

Of course, Peter kept these thoughts deep in his heart and never voiced them. He had his own plans. The more complex the environment, the better it was for honing oneself. Perhaps when the time was right, he could also consider a move to the government sector.

Regardless, he let Second Uncle run the business. With Second Uncle’s character, his parents wouldn’t suffer a loss. Besides, to be honest, money was not something Peter was really fixated on at the moment.

Having returned to his place, Peter took a shower and then sat down to read. There was so much to learn that he could only seize the time to enhance his knowledge.

Peter might have knowledge countless times greater than the people here, but he too needed an entry point. This meant he had to study the current state of knowledge development and avoid being too far ahead.

At that moment, Peter suddenly saw someone approaching outside the door. He looked towards the visitor and greeted them with a bit of surprise.

"Reid, what brings you here?"

The visitor was Reid Nelson, and today she seemed a bit preoccupied.

After entering Peter’s room and looking around, Reid smiled and said, "I didn’t expect a boy like you to keep a clean and refreshing home. Not bad!"

Peter made a cup of tea and handed it to her, "Why is the leader doing an inspection at such a late hour?"

Sitting down, Reid looked at Peter and said, "I just received some news that might not be good for either of us."

"What happened?" Peter looked at Reid.

"The province has made adjustments to the personnel of our Group company."

Peter was startled and asked, "Is President Tian stepping down?"

Nodding vigorously, Reid replied, "President Tian will no longer serve as the chairman of the Group company. Another appointment has been made, with Tobia Armstrong taking on the role of chairman."

"Tobia Armstrong? Where did he come from?"

"A mayor from another city, now appointed as the chairman of our Group company."

Peter scratched his head, "Is that a promotion or a demotion?"

Reid replied, "On the surface, it’s a promotion, but in terms of real power, it’s a demotion. It’s hard to say, really."

"So, it’s a demotion!"

Reid replied, "It’s not that simple; he might just be transitioning here. If he does well, he might go back. It’s unpredictable."

Peter said, "This is somewhat distant from us. What we need to study now is what will happen after his appointment."

Reid replied, "I’ve been thinking about it and wanted to discuss it with you. I’m a bit uneasy. Now I understand why Edward Ford was in such a rush to make personnel changes. As President Tian’s confidant, Henry Ford might have a hard time keeping his position!"

At that moment, Peter frowned. He suddenly had a feeling that so many things had been happening lately, most likely because the province was laying the groundwork for this adjustment. Could it be that The Higher-Ups had long been planning to unseat President Tian?

The more Peter thought about it, the more he felt that it was highly possible.

"Reid, what’s your take on this matter?" Reid clearly began to see Peter as someone with whom to discuss affairs.

After looking at Reid again, Peter said, "We can’t influence this matter, and even if some things happen and changes occur, what can we do?"

Sighing, Reid said, "You’re right. We, as small players, can’t influence the overall situation. But what do we do if Edward Ford gets into trouble?"

"Indeed!"

Peter was of course aware of some of the sensitivities involved. If new leaders came in, would the director and deputy director of the Integrated Office remain the same?

Definitely not!

Peter knew that once a new leader came in, it was likely that he would be knocked back down to earth and returning to his original position would be difficult to predict.

"In your analysis, who do you think has a chance to move up, Vincent Clinton or Christian Greenhill?"

Reid shook her head and said, "I can’t make sense of it. Maybe neither of them is qualified."

If neither was qualified, it was very possible that a new leader would be brought in from outside. If that were the case, the problem would become much more serious.

"If we really get a new leader, what are your plans?"

"What plans can I have? You at least have over a million in hand and can live a good life; I can’t. If I lose this job, I might as well starve."

"Reid, have you ever thought about starting your own business?"

A thought struck Peter, and he looked at Reid and asked. He realized that Reid had skills, but lacked backing, and plenty of people wanted to take advantage of her. With someone like her struggling to survive in the company, it was really tough.

At Peter’s question, Reid gave a wry smile and said, "Business isn’t something you just do because you want to. It requires capital, and without capital, there’s no point in doing anything."

"What if I invested in you? What would you plan to do?" Peter asked tentatively.

Reid’s eyes suddenly lit up as she looked at Peter, "Are you serious?"

Peter replied, "Depends on what you’re going to do."

After thinking for a moment, Reid shook her head, "I know you have money and want to help me, but I haven’t made up my mind yet. If I really have no other options, I might just work for you. Make sure your money’s ready."

Seeing Reid’s reaction, Peter smiled and said, "That’s a deal. If we can’t make it here, we’ll go independent."

Nodding, Reid said, "No matter who becomes the leader, someone has to do the work. We are capable people, and I refuse to believe we won’t have opportunities for advancement!"

This woman still had ambitions!

Watching Reid’s response, Peter understood that she was unlikely to give up her job anytime soon.

Perhaps reassured by Peter’s attitude, Reid displayed more smiles towards him. They reaffirmed their alliance of mutual support, agreeing to share any news and cooperate when necessary.
