Chapter 1578: Chapter 1507: Promotion Is Coming_1

Just when Peter Brown was about to go learn driving, Henry Ford suddenly made a phone call, asking him to make a trip to the villa.

Peter had no choice but to ask his instructor for a day off, then he took the bus there in a hurry.

Upon arrival, Peter saw several cars belonging to motorcade leaders had already come to this place.

After a few discreet observations, Peter understood that these people were Henry Ford’s trusted followers; the key to his considerable power was the group of supporters below him and the backing he received from Mr. Taylor above.

From this incident, Peter also gained some clarity, that it’s not feasible to act alone in any situation; one must have talent at their disposal.

As he walked inside, Peter saw that people were not playing Mahjong but sitting around chatting.

At a glance, although the atmosphere seemed good, Peter could distinctly feel a complex expression on Henry Ford’s face.

"Mr. Ford, good day."

In front of others, this was still the title Peter used.

"Peter is here, come with me for a moment."

With that, Henry Ford stood up and led Peter into an adjacent room.

Peter had no idea what Henry Ford wanted to discuss and could only follow him in to sit down.

"Peter, what’s been happening at the agency while I was away?" His question was so direct, it seemed as though he already treated Peter as a confidant.

"Mr. Graham and Mr. Spencer haven’t come to work. There’s a lot of talk about the Group company, saying that after the two big shots met with trouble, there will be major changes in personnel."

Lighting a cigarette and taking a drag, Henry Ford asked, "What’s the situation in your office?"

"Mr. Carter is fine, but it’s Ivy Cooper who has taken leave and hasn’t been coming to work."

In a few words, Peter summarized the whole agency situation to Henry Ford.

Peter’s summary seemed to satisfy Henry Ford.

Henry Ford tapped his fingers lightly on the back of the chair and said, "There will be a shuffle at tomorrow’s leadership meeting. I thought about the last discussion concerning your move to the shuttle bus group and decided to promote you directly to Deputy Director of Integrated Office."

Peter really hadn’t expected this and was somewhat taken aback, "My seniority in the office is the least, Ivy Cooper is better qualified than me!"

Henry Ford waved his hand dismissively, "We’re a business, not a government department; such niceties don’t matter. Besides, this is a subsidiary. Don’t overthink it. And as for Ivy Cooper, hmph!"

It was clear that Henry Ford had his views on Ivy Cooper; his eyes even flashed with a hint of killing intent.

Seeing this reaction in Henry Ford, Peter didn’t know what else to say, since the matter didn’t seem to have any downside for himself. Internally, he wondered how Ivy Cooper would feel, having spent so much effort to no avail, whereas he had managed it in such a short time.

"As long as you’re clear on that."

"Thank you, Brother Montgomery."

Henry Ford then stood up, patted Peter on the shoulder, and left the room.

Watching Henry Ford’s retreating figure, Peter didn’t feel the elation of being promoted. Instead, he got the impression that Henry Ford was making arrangements.

What was going to happen?

Peter distinctly sensed something was going to occur, but for the moment, he couldn’t think what it might be.

As he followed Henry Ford outside, Peter didn’t see anything particularly amiss.

Of course, Peter noticed that, aside from Christian Greenhill and Vincent Clinton, several leading members had come here, which constituted the majority in the subsidiary.

After an unusually activity-free dinner, as everyone else left, Peter returned in Henry Ford’s car. Along the way, he could see that Henry Ford’s expression was laden with solemnity.

"Peter, do well in your job; this is as much as I can help you with!"

After getting out of the car, Henry Ford patted Peter’s shoulder before leaving.

Watching the car drive away, Peter nodded to himself, confirming his suspicion that something was indeed going to happen to Henry Ford.

After thinking it over, Peter decided to inform his uncle about the situation, as it was something he needed to know.

Seeing Peter arrive, Archie Williams welcomed him with happiness and laughed, "How’s the driving going?"

Peter recounted the day’s events to Archie Williams.

Upon hearing that Henry Ford intended to promote Peter, Archie Williams was puzzled, "That doesn’t make sense. Mr. Ford is a man of loyalty and rewards those who help him. That’s why people like dealing with him, but isn’t this a bit too hasty?"

"That’s the feeling I have too. You can see the seriousness in his expression, as if he’s weighed down by concerns."

Having said this, Peter relayed to Archie Williams everything he understood and had analyzed regarding the Group company’s affairs.

After listening to Peter’s account, Archie Williams’s expression changed as well, and he looked at Peter with a heavy gaze, "I suspect that The Higher-Ups are in flux. Either Henry Ford is in trouble or he will be moved from his current position soon—that would explain his urgency."

"That’s what I was thinking." Seeing his uncle grasp the situation, Peter added a comment.

"Knowing Mr. Ford as I do, it’s almost a certainty. By elevating you, not only do you enter the middle management of the subsidiary but, even if they decide to take you down later, you would have tenure in that position. It seems Mr. Ford really does hold you in high regard."

Peter knew this was Henry Ford repaying him for the messages he had relayed.

No matter what, the promotion seemed to be to his advantage, even though he wondered how long he would remain in the role.

Archie Williams was delighted that Peter could gain Henry Ford’s trust and be permanently employed, on top of the promotion, in such a short time. However, Williams also worried about how well Peter would fare after Henry Ford’s departure.

As the situation developed in the direction Peter had predicted, he realized he could no longer influence its course. For now, his new position was secure; what came next would depend on how things unfolded, which was no longer of much concern to him.

With this in mind, Peter became even more focused on the task of laundering over a million yuan.

Unconsciously, he found himself in the Antique Market, scanning the area and formulating a plan.

He would start the act tomorrow.

On his way back, Peter was holding several fake antiques.

The prices of these items weren’t too high, merely a few hundred yuan each.

Seeing these forgeries, a smile spread across Peter’s face; he would use them to appease everyone.

Peter was leveraging these fake antiques, which no one could truly appreciate, to prove he had discovered a treasure.
