Chapter 1577: Chapter 1576: Must Expand Surveillance Coverage_1

Peter Brown carefully contemplated his situation. He had come to hone his skills, and this position was important to him; if he couldn’t overcome this hurdle, there would be a problem with his self-improvement on a spiritual level, one he definitely could not afford to fail.

He was now a permanent employee and could not be let go as easily as temporary workers were in the past. As long as he didn’t deeply offend someone, chances were slim they’d do anything drastic to him. Even if Christian Greenhill and Vincent Clinton truly rose to power, they likely wouldn’t just dismiss him immediately; at most, he would be put on standby or laid off.

Of course, this was not the outcome Peter Brown wished to see. He was still looking to climb even higher.

Peter knew that, working for a provincial corporation, the higher the rank he reached, the more significant figures he would encounter. Advancing within the company would certainly be beneficial for his career; therefore, without a better career path in sight, Peter did not wish to leave the company.

The most challenging issue now was not knowing who was targeting him from the shadows, or what kind of problems might arise from Mr. Taylor’s end.

If previously Peter had adopted a reactive strategy, now he was contemplating taking the initiative to strike first.

No good; he was still interacting on too low a level. Even within the branch office, he couldn’t fully grasp every situation. Through his computer and cell phone, he had only managed to pick up a few tidbits about certain individuals; far from sufficient for a comprehensive analysis of the situations at hand.

After some thought, Peter decided to develop another program. This program was designed to infiltrate the cell phone he targeted; only by doing so could he fully investigate everyone’s situation.

Although Peter was aware that this constituted illegal activity, he guessed that those he monitored were not of high enough rank to suspect or detect eavesdropping.

For Peter, preserving his position was more imperative than anything else; it signified his success or failure in this secular world. He did not intend to fall at this obstacle.

What the heck, just do it!

Having made up his mind, Peter resumed his place in the office.

Turning on his computer, he rapidly typed lines of code.

No one knew that Peter was exceptionally skilled with computers. His hands moved swiftly, coding fluently under his command.

Of course, the program he was working on this time was more complex and would not be completed in a short period.

He didn’t get to bed until three or four in the morning, and even then, he had only completed a portion of it.

Coming to work the next day, Peter felt somewhat exhausted and repeatedly dozed off at his desk.

"Peter, what were you up to last night? Spill the beans, did you do something naughty?" Reid Nelson teased with a smile as she looked at Peter.

"Reading books and studying. Ah, the more I learn, the tougher it gets," Peter feigned the appearance of having studied all night.

Reid laughed, "Take your time. Self-study examinations are much more difficult than the usual ones. Many people fail multiple times before passing. Right now, you’re overwhelmed; look at you, trying to study for exams, learn to drive, and even delve into antiques!"

The mention of antiques immediately perked Peter up, "Reid, you have no idea how incredible the knowledge of antiques is. I’ve started to get a grasp on it. Tonight, I’m going to try my luck at finding a bargain. Who knows, I might just score something valuable and strike it rich."

Reid chuckled and responded, "Dream on."

As they chatted casually, both glanced over at Ivy Cooper’s empty seat.

"Looks like Ivy hasn’t come to work today."

"She’s feeling unwell, took the day off."

Peter nodded to himself, guessing that Ivy couldn’t take it anymore. She had thought she could turn her fate around by clinging to Stanley Hill, but with his troubles, she had entirely lost her backer.

Peter had no idea what kind of tricks this woman might resort to next.

Reid turned the conversation toward workplace affairs, "Peter, what do you make of what’s happening in the company?"

"How would I know? What about you, Reid?" Peter countered the question.

Reid sighed, "I thought about it last night and feel it’s rather complicated. Mr. Spencer’s in trouble, and now so is Assistant Hill. No telling who else might get dragged into it. It’s uncertain how the superiors and the Group will regard this whole situation."

This woman was really awesome; she had immediately grasped the crux of the problem, something Peter himself had taken a detour to realize!

Peter’s respect for Reid Nelson’s shrewdness grew.

"Reid, could this affect our branch office too?"

"I can’t say for sure; the issue is genuinely complicated, sigh!"

Reid initially wanted to discuss the situation with Peter, but she reconsidered, realizing that Peter might not be privy to much detail. Given his level of education, he couldn’t possibly decipher so much complexity.

"Reid, what if this is the work of some other schemer trying to bring down the two top leaders and then dismantle the Group’s entire leadership?" Peter suggested.

Reid’s entire demeanor froze upon hearing Peter’s words, as she gazed at him blankly.

After a moment, her eyes lit up with excitement, "Why didn’t I think of that? Peter, how did you come up with this idea?"

"I don’t know, just wondered, is it really possible?"

"It’s very likely. Last time I heard people saying that the provincial authorities had their reservations about the Group. If it’s really as you described, then we might be in for some serious trouble."

The more she spoke, the more agitated Reid became, struggling to sit still.

Seeing her reaction, Peter felt more confident in his guess, sensing that the situation might unfold very closely to what he had surmised.

After a bit more casual conversation, Peter noticed that Reid seemed to have something on her mind in the office.

Indeed, after a while, Reid said to Peter, "Keep an eye on the office for me, I have some errands to run." Reid had already departed as she finished speaking.

This woman seemed to have some connections; who knew what she might do next!

Watching Reid’s departure, Peter could only shake his head. Although he wanted to orchestrate something, there was no appropriate opportunity at the moment, and he could only wait to see how the situation would develop.

With Reid out of the office, Peter brought up his program again and began typing swiftly.

Time ticked by, and Reid hadn’t returned by the end of work. Peter’s program was nearing its final stages.
