Chapter 1560: Chapter 1559 Very Appropriate_1

Upon entering Henry Ford’s room, I saw everyone deep in the joy of playing cards, so I picked up the kettle and began pouring hot water for Henry and his team.

"Peter is quite good!"

A construction team leader named Hector smiled slightly as he looked at Peter.

"Edward Ford really knows how to pick people. He saw Peter’s potential at a glance—simply immeasurable!"

As Peter poured hot water for everyone, several of Henry Ford’s trusted followers actually began to praise him.

Listening to their condescending remarks, Peter had a thought. The books on officialdom mentioned many things, and though these men were just some team leaders and subordinate to him—even though Henry Ford hadn’t spoken—they were already speaking like this. First, because they were Henry Ford’s trusted followers, and second, because they didn’t really think highly of Peter from the bottom of their hearts.

With this in mind, Peter became even more enthusiastic, "I’m just someone from the Integrated Office responsible for service. Serving everyone well is my duty."

Henry Ford also had a smile on his face as he said, "So how’d it go, win or lose?"

Daniel Lee laughed, "Edward, you have no idea. Peter is awesome at cards. Today was Three-to-One, and we couldn’t beat him at all!"

Henry Ford smiled slightly, "That is indeed impressive!"

Peter wanted to mention the money issue, but then thought better of it. After all, he had seen some money in a few people’s drawers, which was very likely provided by Daniel Lee, and possibly even more than what was given to him. If he brought up this matter, first, it would be awkward, and second, it would offend people.

As Peter’s gaze swept Henry Ford’s face, he suddenly noticed that Henry had cast a casual glance in his direction.

That look was somewhat special—inscrutable!

Peter stood there, pondering why Henry would ask in front of so many people about how the card game went.

Peter didn’t believe Henry Ford was unaware of the bottom card Three-thousand incident. Since he knew and still asked about this, what was his intention?

At that thought, Peter suddenly had a moment of clarity. Everyone here was aligned with Henry Ford; they all knew how this card game was played. It was something they were used to, unlike Peter, who was from a Farmer’s background, his first time in such a situation, yet winning so much money. Henry Ford’s test was about Peter’s attitude in the face of such temptation.

Should he speak up?

Peter believed that if he showed off, people would perceive him as loose-lipped, and Henry would never entrust him with core responsibilities. Therefore, he shouldn’t discuss this matter now and should pretend as much as possible.

Of course, he knew he had to pretend to submit the money to Henry later, believing Henry wouldn’t actually collect it.

That settled it!

With that thought, Peter said, "There’s no more hot water in this kettle. I’ll go refill it." And with that, he quickly walked out.

What Peter missed seeing was the look of approval in Henry Ford’s eyes.

Outside, he found the Health Room, but couldn’t help slipping inside to count the money he had never had an income like this before, especially one obtained in such a short time. He thought to himself that when you’re a leader, the money does indeed come fast.

Right now, Peter’s family was in dire need of cash, and he was worried about money. He believed this sum would make a difference for his family.

Of course, this money wasn’t technically his yet. He had to speak with Edward first for it to truly be his.

After counting, he realized it amounted to over ten thousand and one hundred dollars.

Peter pocketed the cash, and once he came out with the refilled kettle, he headed straight back to the room.

Indeed, now no one was talking about winning money anymore.

After Peter helped everyone with the hot water, he sat aside silently, watching the game without saying a word, perfectly embodying the role of someone sworn to secrecy.

"I’ll take a break and step out," said Henry Ford, as he gave up his seat for Daniel Lee to take over.

Waving Peter over, Henry said, "Come, let’s step aside to talk."

Peter followed Henry to an adjacent room.

As soon as he stepped inside, Peter could feel the room’s luxurious and upscale decor. It had everything, all sorts of appliances, carpeted floors, and even fresh flowers and greenery—taking a single breath felt refreshing.

"Make yourself comfortable, have a seat," Henry invited Peter with a smile.

Sitting down, Peter quickly pulled out the ten thousand and one hundred dollars from his pocket and placed it on the table, "Edward, this is the money they put in the drawer for me to play with and what I won. I wanted to return it, but they wouldn’t take it. I don’t know what to do with it. You’re the boss, so I’m submitting it to you."

Henry Ford looked at Peter earnestly, "What are your real thoughts about collecting this money? Tell me the truth."

Despite Henry’s stern expression, Peter wasn’t affected. Pretending to think it over, he scratched his head and said, "Well, I’ll listen to whatever you say, Edward. If you tell me to keep it, I’ll keep it; if not, I’ll submit it. To be honest, my family’s situation is tough, and I’m really tempted by this money."

Henry laughed heartily, gesturing dismissively, "There will be plenty more social obligations in the future, and nobody is going to make a fuss about this kind of thing. Keep it."

Peter looked at Henry, "Should I really keep it then?"

By now, Henry was internally nodding, thinking that despite Peter’s Farmer origins, he understood the principles well. He hadn’t taken the money for himself without reporting it, proving his loyalty. His conduct showed he could be trained to be obedient, especially since he didn’t discuss the money matter publicly. Private consultation confirmed his loyalty.

He knew his place!

Henry’s estimation of Peter had climbed significantly.

As Peter truly pocketed the money, Henry’s smile grew wider.

"Peter, we really owe you for this one. I need to thank you," Henry said, out of the blue.

Peter was quick to respond, "Boss, it’s me who should be thankful. Without you, I’d still be in the countryside. My uncle always tells me to stick with you, Edward, to follow your lead. I only overheard them making that phone call by chance, I really didn’t do anything."

Henry kept his eyes on Peter. As Peter spoke, Henry’s smile grew even broader, thinking Peter didn’t rest on his laurels. Such a person was indeed worthy of cultivation.

Tapping the back of his chair lightly, Henry said, "Alright, let’s leave the matter at that. You can go."

"Okay, I’ll be heading out then."

"Mhm, there’s a shuttle bus, take that on your way back," Henry mentioned.

With those words, Henry closed his eyes to rest.
