Chapter 933: Section 614: Desolate City (Part 2)

"I’m here to help you find Quyi?" Lulu looked at Malin, seemingly shocked by his words.

Malin nodded with a smile: "Yes, you think of her, and I will amplify your memories and broadcast them psychically to that region. My voice will distort during the broadcast, so I need you."

"But won’t my voice distort too?" Lulu’s face was filled with doubts as she looked at Malin, waiting for an answer.

"Your voice will distort, but you are so familiar with her, just mentioning some little secret that she knows can gain her trust, like bringing up her nickname," Malin’s reply seemed to bring some understanding to Lulu. She felt there was a special exclusiveness to this task that no one else could fulfill. Lulu closed her eyes and started to call out the nickname of Meng Quyi in her heart.

While Malin placed his hands on both sides of Lulu’s head and, amid the psychic resonance, he heard Lulu’s call.

Susu, it’s Lulu. I’m calling for you. Please disclose your coordinates, Malin will be there soon.

Feeling a bit of heart palpitation and inexplicability, Malin felt like he had heard the name before but couldn’t recall where.

Where was it?

As Lulu called out, Malin heard more and more responses, but they were all lures because not even their general coordinates were correct.

Until a faint echo appeared in his sea of consciousness.

I am here.

You are here.

Malin released his hands from Lulu’s head and fell backward, and the moment he touched the ground, he dove into the opened teleportation channel.

In the next second, Malin appeared in the sky above the abandoned city, readjusting his posture with arms crossed over his chest, head pointing downwards as he swiftly descended. Along the way, various spell formations or other things tried to intercept him but either he dodged them, or they couldn’t penetrate the shield he had activated.

At a distance of fifty meters from the ground, Malin activated the Feather Fall Technique, adjusting his position a second time in the air, his outstretched fingertips shimmering with spell formation light. The Chaos Folk in the streets below were engulfed by psychic flames in an instant, and as they howled in pain, Malin, having confirmed the coordinates, dived into the passage.

The next second, emerging from behind a Chaotic Sorcerer on the rooftop, sword in hand, Malin stabbed his longsword into the sorcerer’s spine, and as he collapsed, Malin withdrew his sword and beheaded him in one swift motion.

At the same time, Malin’s left hand caught another Chaotic Sorcerer’s staff, broke it, and with a reversed grip, he hurled the broken staff into the sorcerer’s eye socket.

As the sorcerer howled in excruciating pain, Malin pulled out a pistol from his hip holster with his left hand and blew away the sorcerer’s head, reducing it to a deflated, broken object with a single shot.

Turning around, a Chaos Folk who had just rushed onto the rooftop was utterly defeated by a psychic pierce, bursting into flames right where he stood, writhing on the ground.

The next Chaos Folk, upon making eye contact with Malin, lost in a battle of wills, walked to the edge of the rooftop laughing crazily, drew a flintlock pistol from his waist, placed it against his head, and pulled the trigger.

Malin spun around, his left hand firing the pistol at the third incoming Chaos entity. The first bullet tore through its left knee cap, and as it collapsed to the ground from pain and loss of balance, Malin’s attention was already on the laughing Chaos entities lining up with firearms on the rooftop across the street, who started to kill themselves by reversing their gun barrels.

The only Chaos creature who hadn’t completely lost its will to resist desperately clutched its right hand with its left, while Malin flung his longsword backward, pinning the fourth Chaos creature charging onto the rooftop, and simultaneously tossed his left-hand pistol into the air.

As a result, when Malin freed up his left hand, slowly moved the Chaos general’s left hand away from his right wrist, his right hand caught the pistol, then he pulled the trigger toward the fifth one charging to death at the stairwell.

As this guy tumbled down the stairs, the Chaos general on the opposite rooftop howled, his right hand finally fulfilling its pointing duty. The next second, his right trigger finger pulled the trigger.

Malin turned around, walked to the edge of the rooftop, while aiming the gun at the Chaotic Sorcerer who had been kneeling there since just now, begging Malin for mercy. This sorcerer, having failed the battle of wills against Malin, had its brain completely burnt out and became a pathetic worm that knew only to plead for life.

But only a dead Chaotic Sorcerer could make Malin feel at ease, so when the bullet flew out, as the Chaotic Sorcerer ecstatically howled, welcoming the bullet flying straight at it.

Then, as the bullet penetrated its skull, and as the bullet flipped and killed it thoroughly, Malin leaped from the rooftop and landed on the street below, turning to look at the escaping Chaos creatures, pleased by their return to senses, Malin then turned his head to look at the zombies.

They watched Malin from a distance, with a very large zombie at the head seemingly restraining its subordinates.

Malin reached out, and the longsword flew down from the rooftop into his hand.

Walking up the ramp, Malin casually fired at another climbing Chaos creature, then threw the longsword, nailing another Chaos creature emerging from the ground corpse pile, this one apparently too terrified to feign death anymore.

"Meng Quyi, where are you?" asked Malin, and while passing by a corpse, he pulled the trigger at the forehead of one still enduring in solitude, turning its feigning death into a real one, and the previously trembling and terrified individual finally completed its true performance.

His buddy could no longer continue pretending. The small Chaos soldier crawled up and swiftly tumbled down the ramp.

Malin flicked his pistol, the bullet modified its trajectory with Spiritual Energy as it was fired, eventually bursting the tumbling Chaos Folk’s head like a watermelon.

With the pistol now empty, Malin pressed the safety catch and ejected the magazine, Fio passed the new magazine to her master, and Malin finished reloading. Lorrin was already wielding that longsword to clear all obstacles on their master’s path, the undying zombies and feigning Chaos creatures, one after another, died under Lorrin’s care.

Death is the best gift I can offer you.

Malin mused as he came to a small building front, where the Activating Vine, before Mana, shed its savage appearance. Malin walked through the door opened by Mana, as all unclean things in the hall were swallowed by the animated floor, and the completely damaged wooden stairs were struggling to self-rescue, the Activating Vines joining the concerted effort.

Malin stood at the door until the floor regained its shine, until the stairs completed their self-rescue, then he walked upstairs with a smile.

Miss Meng Quyi sat in the corner, watching Malin with her sparkling big eyes.

"What’s wrong?" Malin asked with a smile, thinking the girl was a bit silly.

"In my hometown, there is a saying that has been passed down for a long time, it goes like this, one day..." Meng Quyi’s face grew a little red, out of affection for her, Malin smiled and finished the sentence: "One day, my hero will come to fetch me, donned in golden armor and riding on a seven-colored cloud, isn’t that right?"

"Yes, only you are without armor, nor cloud." The girl started to laugh as she said that, she stood up and walked towards Malin with her still somewhat limp leg: "You will take me away, won’t you?"

"Yeah, I had Lulu locate you through a full channel broadcast; you’re pretty savvy," Malin said, tossing her a potion bottle, "Drink this."

After speaking, Malin reached out, and Lorrin handed the longsword to its master.

A rift was forming in the hall on the first floor.

"We have a guest," Meng Quyi remarked, looking at the rift.

"No, a fool has come," Malin said. He hadn’t suppressed his power when he traversed the transfer passage. All the strong ones knew Malin had headed to that non-bait echo coordinate that had appeared in their midst.

Such lousy, misshapen creatures, Malin thought they didn’t have the guts to come, but he hadn’t realized that Chaos is called Chaos because they’re crazy enough and proficient at stirring up trouble and seeking death.

Coming through the rift was a not-so-impressive Nagoth champion, with a rotten belly skin. On seeing Malin and Meng Quyi, his eyes visibly lit up with glee—look, a Psychic and a tenderfoot, easy to deal with.

Then the four World Tree Saplings under Malin’s command stood out.

Transformed into a treant, Fio wielded Blood Roar, his twisted branches full of High God’s sacred inscriptions.

Lorrin, also transformed into a treant and sporting a shotgun, flexed its muscular frame and deliberately pushed up the sunglasses that Malin had given it to play with.

Melo had turned into a large wolf, each of his two heads clutching a longsword—ah, they were the divine weapons given to Malin by the God of Justice and the fearsome lords.

Mana, turned into a tiny treant, held a Pastoral Staff that shone with divine radiance in her hand.

The smile on the Nagoth champion’s face froze.

Malin dug at his ear, then flicked a piece of earwax into the Subspace.

Ails responded to Malin’s call, and the transfer passage was being established. Shortly after, a dazzling Lich appeared, decked out in a suit, wearing an oversized coat, adorned with gold and silver, and chomping on a cigar.

"A Nagoth Champion? Not bad, Mister Malin, you indeed remember me."

Ails expressed his delight.

The smile vanished from the Nagoth champion’s face as the rift that had initially closed behind him reappeared—this time opening wider and with greater urgency than when he arrived.

Malin smiled and closed the rift for the champion, "In this deep winter, since you’ve already come and everyone’s here. My kids are still small, and if we fail to be hospitable enough, please give us some face, life’s hard for everyone."

At this point, Meng Quyi could barely hold back his laughter.

With a grand gesture, Malin led the saplings down from the second floor; Ails happily watched as the World Tree Saplings beat up the champion, while he began to establish the Dimensional Anchor.

Watching as Fio chopped off one of the champion’s arms, Malin turned to Ails, "How about this soul?"

"Quite nice, although not a chosen champion, it’s not far off in strength," Ails said honestly.

Malin considered for a moment, then blessed his saplings again.

"Isn’t this a bit too much?" Ails asked.

Malin kicked the head that had just been lopped off, "No, it’s not, look at this head, it can grow legs on its own."

Then Malin watched as Ails pulled a leg bone from the rift, belonging to some unlucky soul and used it to crack open the head.

"Whose unlucky bone is this?" Malin felt it was pretty hard.

"It should be a White Dragon’s leg bone. To throw away the name of dragons like this," Ails said, then after a thought, added, "You don’t have dragons here, well... Compared to other dragons, a White Dragon’s just a somewhat larger lizard. Your saplings can easily take them on."

Malin nodded—he understood; after all, White Dragons were known as the Huskies among dragons.

"Alright, I’ll hand this soul over to you. If you think you can make a profit here, then take it before you leave, I’m off to pick someone up." After saying this, Malin prepared to enter the transfer passage with Meng Quyi.

"Sure, no problem, but I sensed your young folks are being chased as I came here," Ails said while starting to set up the rescue Array.

"It’s okay, leave that guy to me," Malin finished saying and signaled Meng Quyi to enter first. He then turned to the Lich, "You seem hesitant; what else did you see?"

"I saw an odd half-elf, looks like she might be your daughter," Ails said, with the Soul Fire in his eye sockets scattering, an appearance of happiness.

This time it was Malin’s turn to widen his eyes.
