Chapter 871: Section 574: Discovery (Part 1)
"I thought you came to persuade me." Looking at Lulu standing by his side, Malin reached out and tousled her head.
Lulu shook her head, watching the members of the Dole Vince family being dragged toward the gallows, she quietly said beside Malin: "My grandmother was a daughter of the Vince family, but I have no such criminal relatives. For a piece of meager farmland one can kill today, who knows if tomorrow for a land as big as a country, they might conspire evil thoughts against the King and those loyal to this nation."
Having said that, Lulu sighed, "I heard from Faye that you really like children, this must be very tough for you."
"Yes, it’s very tough," Malin watched the children in the line, taking a deep breath.
This sigh, however, he ultimately couldn’t breathe out.
Looking at the children being dragged to a smaller gallows, "I tried several times to stop the execution because I can’t stand to see the children struggling miserably on it, but then I think of the Chandler family’s children... they must have yearned for justice before their deaths."
"I couldn’t redeem them, so I must avenge their grudges, even if it means having to kill their peers in the same manner." While speaking, Malin lowered his head; he didn’t want to watch the pitiful scene of the children crying, as it would break his heart.
The children did nothing wrong, yet they die because of the adults’ conflicts. The damn Dole Vince family... damn it all.
Tuojin approached, "Your Excellency, the last batch of criminals has been executed.", the political officer looked at Malin, expecting his commander to issue new orders.
"Your corps rest here, waiting for the following reinforcements. This operation has already received the forgiveness of the Churches, but the reaction of the nobles of the Northern Kingdom is not yet clear, so prepare the defenses, notify Carterburg, the second batch of troops start moving north, have the Field Medical Corps follow, and also summon all the combat Mage squads with their equipment here, I’ll give the coordinates here for the logistics team to set up a field airlift."
"Yes," Tuojin noted down Malin’s orders and passed them to his subordinate.
Malin jumped down from the gallows platform, gesturing Lulu and Tuojin to follow – the soldiers in that warehouse found a lot of contraband, so Malin wanted to take a look.
As Tuojin led the way for Malin, from time to time something hung on the street lamps – these were remnants from those who still broke into stores or forced doors after the battle ended. In this case, Malin could only admire their courage, but courage without strength is foolishness, so these robbers and thieves eventually just became ornaments on the street lamps.
"Tuojin, tell all shops to operate as normal. If anyone dares to raise the prices of food, let Carterburg prepare more goods. Everything in the business field belongs to the business field."
Malin wouldn’t personally send these audacious merchants to the gallows, after all, they are too insignificant, and do not deserve Malin’s thunderous methods; hence everything born in the business field dies in the business field, Malin will overthrow them with methods from the business field, and if they couldn’t handle that, then it has nothing to do with Malin.
"Understood, Your Excellency, I will have my political officers notify the merchants," Tuojin said, handing the written order to another assistant.
Speaking of which, Malin always found it strange why a warehouse would be built in a residential area. Upon arriving at the entrance, the soldiers had already thrown the corpses of over a dozen human guards onto a cart – these bodies would be dragged outside the city for cremation.
"Speaking of which, did you encounter any resistance in the warehouse?" Malin asked Tuojin, quite curious, if these guys all had guns, then in such close combat, Malin felt it was impossible that only the squadron leader would be injured. After all, even ten guys who’ve never handled guns shooting in one direction at this distance should at least land a shot.
Then, Tuojin explained that the boy who came pushing the door had a gun in one hand and a bunch of cards in the other, cursing while shooting twice at the closest squadron leader then realized he wasn’t shooting at townsmen.
And the soldiers with semi-automatic rifles didn’t give him and the guards who came out to watch a chance, within less than two seconds, about a dozen guards fell to the ground.
Malin felt these guards were really careless upon hearing this news.
Regardless, casualties should always be minimized.
Entering the warehouse, Malin saw many soldiers sorting boxes, seemingly stacking similar goods together.
Malin went to the nearest boxes and pulled open the wooden lids, revealing the contents inside to be dried meat.
"Is this also contraband?" Malin curiously asked.
"The soldiers all say so," Tuojin replied.
Since Southerner Tuojin didn’t know, Malin casually asked a soldier, "What kind of meat is this?"
"Your Excellency, this is Chaos meat." The soldier looked at the dried meat before replying.
Chaos meat? Malin’s first thought was horrors of the North, to even dare to make dried meat out of Chaos and looks like it’s prepared to be stockpiled.
