Chapter 729: Section 503: Wisdom is the Most Dangerous Weapon in Human Hands (Part One)

After making sure the girls were asleep, Malin went to check on his father, who had already gone to bed. Despite becoming Legendary, his foundations were still too fragile—before this, he had given up the search for the truth and let Fate and Sequence push him into a dead end.

His body had been thoroughly harmed and destroyed, and even though he had achieved Legendary status, he couldn’t possibly be as powerful as a normal Legendary. Malin didn’t even want to compete with his father anymore, because the power between them had completely reversed.

When he returned to his own room, Malin stood by the window for a while.

In Carterburg’s winter, as in years past, Malin saw armed young vigilantes patrolling the streets amid the midnight snowstorm. The police had shifted their attention beyond the second wall, and in the original town area, it was these vigilante groups formed of descendants of Nobles and gentlemen who were responsible for safety.

This was no easy task. When Malin spoke with the mayor about it, he didn’t count on getting the Nobles and wealthy gentlemen to contribute men; instead, he wanted the assault teams from his own factory guard to handle it so they could maintain sufficient vigilance.

But what he hadn’t expected was that, after seeing the combat capabilities of the young men in Malin’s possession, the Nobles and gentlemen volunteered their children to join.

Since they had a need, Malin of course obliged, with each party benefiting from the exchange.

Bippo and Milani were sleeping in the arms of Clovis, the third Snow Leopard Trisik, who was lying in front of the fireplace and naturally didn’t need to worry about freezing.

Salis was perched on the bird stand, squeezing the poor old parrot until it shivered like a quail.

Malin returned to his room where most of the girls had already fallen asleep. He lay down in an empty spot beside the bed.

There was a lot to do tomorrow waiting for him.

......

When the familiar yet strange scent filled Malin’s nostrils and he was awakened by the alluring aroma, Malin realized....it seems he had delved deep again?

No longer in his familiar old home, no longer surrounded by familiar wallpaper, Malin looked at the log-built walls, saw the Firearms and coats hanging there, and also smelled the scent wafting from outside the room.

Malin sat up, felt his own frailty, and touched his chest over his clothes, finding no issues there, then touched below the navel, and couldn’t help feeling a profound sadness for the owner of this body.

Oh, poor child, it’s not your fault, the body did its best.

With such a sigh, Malin got out of bed, put on the thick winter clothing on the chair, which was clearly that of a Northern Hunter.

Upon entering the kitchen, Malin saw Mars, the young Panso cat-person frying steaks. Hearing Malin’s footsteps, he turned his head and said, "Ancestor, I got up earlier than you this time. Seeing you were still asleep, I decided to make breakfast, I was starving."

"Where is this place, do you know?"

"This should be Oslo, further north of the Northern countries. As for the time, the calendar there says it’s two centuries earlier than the era I come from. This body of yours is probably that of the greatest Northern Tech Hunter, Nanachi Haus, a Rabbitfolk with a fully developed anomaly. I’ve read some history books, probably a descendant of the greatest Legendary Mage, Lady Clovis."

"Oh, is that so?" Having not paid full attention just before, Malin looked at his hands and found they indeed resembled Clovis’s. With that in mind, he reached out, and the bowls, plates, knives, and forks in the cupboard all flew out.

Well, it looks like the Firearm isn’t operated manually but with Spiritual Energy. Judging by the intensity of Spiritual Energy, this kid is really good.

"Ancestor, I have entered middle school." Mars put the steaks onto two dishes and then placed them on the table.

"How are your studies going?" Malin naturally sat at the table, and with a glance at the child while adeptly arranging the cutlery with his Spiritual Energy, he asked.

"If I could improve a bit more in language studies, I could get a scholarship. But with the ideas I’ve got from you, I’ve made quite a bit of money. Oh, and I’ve opened a repair shop, specializing in fixing electronic devices. When people find things from before the Great Destruction, they think of me. Just last week, someone from our Northern Hive City came to me; I fixed the electronic disk he found, and he paid me a good sum of money." The child was talking to Malin while eating.

Although it’s not a good habit to talk while eating, Malin still listened with a smile.

He was alone now, with no one to talk to, no one to understand him; he didn’t know if anyone liked him... Life alone is very lonely.

Thinking of this, Malin felt even more satisfied looking at the child—he hadn’t fallen into despair, nor had he succumbed to fear, instead, he was taking steps forward, growing and striving to survive.

A descendant like this was the kind Malin liked the most.

Just like the owner of this body, the greatest Tech Hunter, who survived alone in the Extreme North, finding artifacts from before the Great Destruction Era for this remaining world.

Thinking of his and the girls’ children, generation after generation, always striving for the future of this world... Malin felt an indescribable happiness in his heart.

These are my children, Malin’s children.

And Mars talked a lot, from his own life to the situation in the Hive City, to his classmates at school, until, in the end, the young man furrowed his brow, "Ancestor, I told you before that my father was killed, right?"
