Chapter 585: Section 402: Mechanical Mind (Part 2)_2
```
"At the eastern edge of the Eastern Kingdom, he is about to continue eastward towards Mariupol, following the false messages we’ve laid out for him. There, rogue military machinery, starving zombies, and all sorts of life, warped by radiation, await him. He will undoubtedly meet his death."
"Perhaps we need a drone to facilitate this." added ’15’ digitally.
Just then, light illuminated the formerly dark room.
A figure in a black robe, with an electronic screen for a head, appeared in front of the abruptly opened door. On its screen was the number ’29’, and it spoke with a female voice, "Our little guest Laiyale has sent a message; he has found the materials we need. However, he’s slacked off, not taking from the old factory on Elicusa Island as we provided, but instead dismantling two parts from Jason’s airport."
"He’s still alive?"
"Yes, he signaled us. He says he has completed the task we assigned, and he needs us to perform the eternal life ritual for the target he has designated immediately."
A moment of silence fell among its counterparts at the elliptical table, until finally, the figure with the number ’101’ on its screen shook its head, "Pass his location to the Night Watcher and his men, let him take care of this nuisance, then deliver his head to Jason."
"But, sir, we had previously promised...""Clever nuisances do not deserve promises. Jason has been very upset about this lately. If we agree to his request, Jason will surely sense something is amiss. We cannot allow Zhang Xinye’s runt to find out this nuisance is related to us."
Interrupting number ’29’, ’15’ turned to look at ’101’.
And ’101’ nodded slightly, "Yes, while Jason can be difficult to control, it is after all the most reasonable high-level artificial intelligence. Although Zhang Xinye walks a different path from us, he indeed fulfilled his promise. Speaking of which, how did he die?"
"Probably bored of living, what a waste." said ’13’.
"He also reached his limit. To have lived till now using an electronic brain is already quite long-lived. So, let’s return to our previous topic, ’29’, go and inform the Night Watcher." ’101’ nodded, then looked at ’29’, who stood by the door.
The latter bowed with a hand over the chest, "Leave it to me. Also, the third batch of children is nearly ready to hatch. I’ve heard this time they are to be distributed to Carterburg for entry into the orphanage, correct?"
"Yes, ’29’, this operation is very important. If any of these children awaken their Spiritual Energy, it means we can, too."
With that, ’29’ bowed out.
After a while, ’76’ looked toward ’101’, "Is it really okay to keep deceiving ’29’ like this?"
"Do you want it like the last time, where we told ’29’ what we are actually doing, and then let that woman distort in despair? If it weren’t for Jason being here, who immediately and decisively sent that ’29’ through our reverse-engineered teleportation gateway to the North, all of us might have perished..." ’101’ paused before continuing, "After this is completed, put ’29’ back in the furnace, activate the third backup, and start incubating the fifth backup. Remember, we have faced hardships for our ideals for a full eight millennia; we absolutely cannot afford any hesitation or retreat."
As he spoke, the mechanical figures began to bow their heads.
As ’101’ lowered his head, he began, "’87’, the day after tomorrow is the new round of the wizards’ council meeting. You’re in charge."
"No problem, Your Will, Chairman."
......
"Larraya, where have you been?"
As the young man entered, he was greeted by the complaints of the innkeeper.
He smiled awkwardly, "I told you, I have work. Look, this is for the next week’s stay at the inn." With that, the young man took out five ten-unit Mowish Paper Money bills from his little bag.
"Fine, but let me be clear, whatever happens, the girl you brought back cannot die in my inn. This place is reserved for hosting important people. If she’s going to die, you take her away!" The middle-aged man behind the counter snatched the money and said sternly.
Smiling, the young man nodded, "No problem, don’t worry. By the way, I’ve already contacted a Healer; he’s quite remarkable."
"You know a remarkable Healer?" The landlord looked at him skeptically.
```
So Larraya pulled open his arm, "You saw the wound from yesterday, right? Look."
"Whoa... impressive, didn’t notice it at all, lad. Seems like your girl won’t die after all. Settle down and stay, kid." Seeing the wound on Larraya’s arm had vanished, the stern look on the middle-aged man’s face softened a great deal.
"Thanks, boss." Larraya smiled, took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and handed one to him.
"Holy Kingdom cigarettes, you’re something else, kid."
"See, I told you I found a good job." With that, Larraya raised his eyebrows and then ascended the stairs to the second floor.
Upon reaching the top and turning to walk down the corridor, the young man’s face lost its smile. He kept a cold expression until he stood in front of his door; when he pushed it open, the smile returned to his face.
"I’m back," he said.
"Welcome back." The elf girl sitting on the edge of the bed looked at him, her face filled with a blissful smile, "Larraya, you’re back."
"Yes, I used my connections, Four-Leaf. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to have the surgery in a couple of days."
"Surgery... can it really cure me?"
"Of course, you see, my arm."
Lifting his sleeve, Larraya looked at the girl in front of him, "Don’t worry, I said I serve the Supreme, and we... we’ll always be together."
"Thank you, Larraya." The elf girl looked at Larraya, "We..." "We are family."
Larraya smiled and stroked the girl’s head before him.
Four-Leaf, even though our home is gone, we are still family.
......
"Xing Chi, I want to buy that."
As the young Night Watcher absentmindedly observed the street, he heard his companion’s call. He turned his head to look at the girl standing in front of a Thanan craftsman’s stall.
"Eating sweets will make you fat, Luna," he said just as absentmindedly.
"That’s the most irresponsible excuse I’ve heard. Do you really think an automaton can get fat?" The girl looking at her master with hopeful eyes said in a discontented tone.
Hehe, Xing Chi rolled his eyes and walked toward his companion, "Please, you still know you’re an automaton, Luna?" As he walked, Xing Chi reached for his wallet.
"What are you doing?" Luna watched Xing Chi frantically searching as if he had forgotten his hand in his pocket and asked with great confusion.
"My wallet... it’s gone." Stopping his futile search, Xing Chi looked at Luna, "I remember bringing my wallet."
"My master, you’re not old enough to be forgetting things like this," the automaton girl said, arms crossed.
"Really, I remember taking my wallet... Damn it! My cigarette case is gone too!" As Xing Chi felt the other pocket, he immediately burst out with a wail.
His automaton girl was silent for a moment, then with a skeptical and disdainful gaze, the girl wielding her sharp tongue waved at her master, "You smoke too! I’ve never heard of you smoking! I’m going to tell Mrs. Roland!"
"Let’s talk nicely, don’t tell my mom!" His master cried out in despair and then the young man feeling his chest found an even bigger problem, "Damn it! Where’s the pocket watch my mom gave me?!"
