Chapter 447: Section 303: LeParrain (3)

```
Clovis walked up to Malin with her gun on her back and hugged him, "I saw her starting to mutate."
Malin nodded, he certainly knew this matter couldn’t be blamed on her, and the words Selena said were extremely shocking to him.
What use was a fourth-ring mage, facing despair, I couldn’t even protect my own home... She wasn’t powerless like mortals, but indeed, as she said, in the coming era, even a fourth-ring mage would not be able to protect a home.
In the era of Chaos invasion and the Tide of the Dead rising, Selena’s strength as a fourth-ring mage was indeed too weak.
But this wasn’t the reason for her to become a witch, she came into contact with Subspace in a completely unprotected state, her child... Malin felt that the child was doomed.
Because the child came into contact with Subspace more directly, everything his mother did to protect her family ended up thrusting him into the abyss.
Malin watched as the person in charge of Arcane Fist interrogated Selena’s soul and saw Shela and the child being taken out.
"How is she?"
"The woman is fine."
With that answer, Malin finally breathed a sigh of relief. He looked at the person in charge, "Let her go."
The person in charge looked at Malin, fell silent for a moment, "We need to conduct a thorough test."
"Then you must ensure her safety and the safety of the child in her womb, can you do that?" Malin asked.
A male member of Arcane Fist by his side snorted with a snide tone, "Mr. Malin, you really are a philanthropic man."
Clovis gave him a glance, "You can spout nonsense, but you can’t eat it."
"Is there a mistake?" the man retorted mockingly.
Malin shook his head.
"Mr. Malin, forgive him, being a caster and having a brain are two different things," the person in charge said with an anxious look on his face.
"Van Brunt! Are you disrespecting the royalty?"
The man roared.
Malin shook his head, he reached out and picked up the staff that had transformed from Fio. Lorrin pulled out a white glove for its master and threw it in the man’s face.
"You’re asking for it!" The man reached for his gun but Malin raised his hand and sent the man flying into the wall, then a second later an ice spear nailed him in place.
Only then did Malin turn to the person in charge, who now sighed with a shotgun pressed against him by Melo, "Mr. Malin, you really know how to create trouble for yourself."
"Killing one is murder, killing two is the same, I don’t see any difference," Malin said with a laugh, "Can you ensure her safety and the safety of her unborn child now?"
"No problem, sir," the person in charge nodded to Malin, sincerity etched on his face, evidently feeling enough pressure from Malin’s non-negotiable approach.
The remaining members of Arcane Fist didn’t argue either, making it clear that this man’s popularity was disgraceful enough.
"Malin, what exactly happened?" Shela asked with some confusion and a hint of sadness.
"Selena is a witch," Malin replied with a sigh.
"A witch!" That answer clearly had enough impact, leaving Shela at a loss for words for a moment.
"These members of Arcane Fist were chasing a group of witches and Selena protected them," Malin added, which explained their interrogation of Selena.
"They’re at the North farm."
```

"The North Suburbs Farm?" Malin puzzled, but it was Clovis who gave Malin an answer—the North Suburbs Farm was a burgeoning area that had taken in many refugees from the North and runaway serfs from the East, located to the left of Malin’s oak grove.

Finding a few individuals among those thousands of people was no easy task.

After considering for a moment, the person in charge of the Arcane Fist decided to entrust Shela and the child to Malin—he too had realized that Selena must have been concealing her identity. Since that was the case, why not grant Malin a favor?

As he watched them leave, Malin looked at Shela, "Selena didn’t tell you, did she?"

She seemed confused still, but after Clovis persisted with instructions by her ear, Shela finally nodded vigorously as though she understood.

"You take care of this child, at least until Jason returns and makes a decision. For now, he is still a child of the Stansen family."

"I...I don’t know whether to thank you or curse you, because this family is already broken," Shela said sadly, holding the child.

Malin raised his hand, about to scold his Mage Tower members, who immediately closed their mouths.

Malin looked at Shela, "Many also look at me with the same eyes as you, and I believe in the future even more will interpret my actions through your viewpoint. But I can swear, all that I have done, was for the sake of the innocent."

Malin was aware that his hands were stained with blood, and he couldn’t guarantee that all of the owners of that blood were the epitome of evil. But Malin could assure that every deceased person had a reason to die by his hand.

Why Selena became a witch remained an unsolved mystery, but that she had to die after becoming one was an indisputable fact.

The Mage Tower did not initially despise and hate witches because the world needed everyone to stand up.

Only when the witches gradually became the pawns of Chaos did the relationship between mages and witches take a nosedive.

Malin indeed regretted the death of those he knew, but he couldn’t bear the threat that Selena, as a witch, posed to the world.

Shela was silent, not until Malin heard her sobbing.

Only when Jason came back, did Malin choose to leave.

"Malin! Why did Selena have to die?"

Before Malin left, this man spoke up.

"Selena became a witch, I am very sorry," Malin said, and then he walked away without looking back.

He couldn’t face this broken family again.

"Mr. Malin, you’ve never experienced such a painful scene before, it must be very difficult," said the Paladin from the Church of Justice, offering words of comfort to Malin.

Malin nodded, "Partings and death are always painful."

"I used to be puzzled by this when I was young. Only after seeing more did I understand why the Mage Tower hunts witches," the Paladin seemed to think Malin would suffer from psychological trauma, and he went on talking endlessly. Malin didn’t argue, merely listening until his companion called him away.

"He’s an interesting fellow, Matilda will find common ground with him," Clovis remarked in admiration.

Malin felt the same way.

"Clovis, do you think there will ever come a day when witches will no longer be influenced by Chaos?" Malin asked Clovis while getting into the carriage.

"That’s something that could only happen in your dreams, Mr. Malin," Clovis said, followed by a brief silence before sighing, "Witches have been trying to stop their fall for almost hundreds of years, but none have been successful. Fate is never perfect, Mr. Malin."

Malin was silent, ultimately he could only accept such an answer.
