Chapter 446: Section 302: LeParrain (2)

Selena was contemplating what to do today. Although as a noble, she could easily have the maids do it, a favorite book of hers states it well that a man’s stomach is the biggest weakness in his life, and for a woman, it is the only place where she can have control over him.

Although this saying was full of male chauvinism, Selena had to admit that the guy wasn’t wrong.

Speaking of which, Jason should almost be on his way back by now, and Shela... should be arriving home soon as well.

Handing over the cooking to the maids, Selena heard the sound of a carriage. She untied her apron and went to the front door, where the butler opened it for her. The young lady saw the Mischael family’s carriage stopped in the courtyard. Her sister stepped down from the carriage with the coachman’s assistance.

"Welcome back, my sister," she embraced her sister.

"Sorry, there was some traffic on the way. They are repairing the road on both the north and south sides of our street," Shela commented with some curiosity.

Her remark made Selena pause for a second, "Are they fixing the drainage?"

"Yes, I saw Mr. Robbie from the city hall; he was the one who told me that they are repairing the road on the north side as well," Shela said, taking a small bag of gifts out of her own bag: "Here, this is from brother. It’s red tea obtained from Thanan. You and Jason will like it."

"Thank you." Selena felt it was a pity that her own sister didn’t like red tea because during tea parties, she could only drink sweet milk. Nevertheless, Selena was very touched because this was red tea from the distant human world: "You go take a bath first."

After the sisterly affection was shared, Selena watched Shela enter the bathroom. Then, she glanced at the red tea bag in her hand, smiling as she handed it to the butler: "Keep it safe. Jason will like it."

"Yes, madam," the butler took the bag and then turned his head to look outside the door.

Selena noticed the look of surprise on the butler’s face. She turned around and saw two carriages stopping in front of the door.

They were so quiet, completely lacking any of the noise that carriages usually make, and the passengers who got off the carriages made her heart skip a beat.

They were strangers.

"Strangers, madam. Could they be here to see the master?" the butler glanced at Selena.

And Selena, spotting the blue square-shaped book and glove pattern on their badges on their shoulders, said, "They’re here for me. Take the child away."

Then she saw Malin, who had climbed out of the other carriage with a middle-aged man, who looked like an Eastern Kingdom person, with a typical Eastern appearance.

She finally thought of a term—Arcane Fist, the witch hunters from the Eastern Kingdom.

They came.

"Wait, go check the back door," Selena instructed the butler, who had been ready to go upstairs to fetch the child but stopped in his tracks.

"Check the back door," Selena said softly.

So the butler quickly ran towards the back door.

Selena turned around to look at these Easterners standing outside the front door, and at Malin, who had grown up.

Jason, do you remember why I hate geniuses... Do you know why? Because geniuses, these creatures, they exist only to hurt us.

What we strive for, what we give, what we cry for, to geniuses, all of that is nothing more than a pleasure easily obtained in their leisure time after meals.

Now, they have come.

To take everything from us.

.........

Malin stood between the gates, looking at Selena not far away, inside the door... To be honest, it had indeed been several years since they met. The girl from the Logan family had grown into a beautiful lady.

It was a pity, though, that she had taken a wrong turn and made a great mistake.

Around her, spiritual energy was gathering.

The members of the Arcane Fist standing to one side did not intervene, because it had already been agreed that they must allow them to begin negotiations first.

Therefore, Malin alone pushed the small railing in front of the gate and walked towards the lady, while the investigator’s badge from the Mage Tower he took out of his pocket drove the guards that surrounded him away.

Eventually, Malin stood about twenty yards from Selena.

This was a relatively safe distance, both for Malin and for the lady.

At that moment, her butler came to her side and whispered a sentence—though he tried to keep his voice low, Malin still heard the panic in his words.

"There’s someone at the back door, madam."

Since it was a joint operation, the Mage Tower also sent personnel; they were responsible for watching the back door, and the main south and north drains had already been controlled and surrounded. The lady should not think about escaping through the sewer.

Unless she could loudly declare "you are all useless" and then, with a bang, transform into something and fly away.

That’s impossible, though, in this day and age—who hasn’t gone hunting? As long as the lady can’t fly at the first cosmic velocity, let alone others, Malin, plastering himself with a myriad of spell formations, could take her down with a shotgun in hand.

"What are you here for," Selena said with a smile that was not quite a smile.

"Selena, the child, where is he?"

"What do you want to do!" The butler, Mr. Butler, prepared to draw his gun, but as Malin reached out, the gun the butler had just pulled out turned into a red-hot lump of iron.

As Mr. Butler dropped the gun, Malin looked at the lady in front of him: "Where are your accomplices?"

"I won’t betray them. If I betray my partners today, tomorrow someone will come to kill my family, because I would be a traitor," the lady said.

Malin shook his head: "You can’t escape, and I’ve made a deal with the guests of the Arcane Fist. They will spare your child’s life, and I will place the child in the care of the Church."

"Must Jason and Shela die too?" the lady asked tremblingly.

"It depends on how deeply involved he and she are in this matter," Malin said with some regret. "You are already a four-ring mage, why would you become a wizard?"

"What’s the use of being a four-ring mage? In the face of desperation, I can’t even protect this home!" Selena roared towards the end.

Looking at her, Malin seemed to recall the aunt who faced the managers who came for the land confiscation back then; back then, she already had a hunched back, and all Malin could do in the end was watch as the orphanage was demolished, although later a better orphanage was built, and the new director had even invited them, the old generation of orphans.

Indeed, without change, there can be no rebirth.

But for Malin, home... was gone.

"Don’t resist, Selena, for the sake of any god," Malin said, looking up at the increasingly concentrated spiritual energy on the lady, trying his utmost.

He wanted to end all this, didn’t want to see bloodshed.

"No one can destroy this home!" the lady let out an angry roar.

Then a gunshot rang out.

A bullet hole appeared in Selena’s chest, she glanced at the blood spurting out, and then fell backward onto the floor.

Malin turned his head and looked towards the distant Bell Tower.

As the guards roared in anger, Malin raised his hand, and a human immobilization spell restrained them; then he watched the old butler sobbing as he took down the shotgun from the wall.

Watching him raise the gun, Malin finally extended his hand and sent the butler crashing against the wall.

"I thought you would kill him," the head of the Arcane Fist said with a sigh as he walked past Malin.

"Someone has already bled for your cause; that’s enough. Your justice doesn’t need too much sacrifice or blood to nourish it," Malin said, then stepped to the side—he hadn’t forgotten his own oath.
