Chapter 377: Chapter 254: Active Period (Part 1)
Malin opened his eyes, lying on a soft bed and staring at the carved ceiling above, experiencing for the first time the peculiar and bizarre hobbies of the wealthy. Rich people always liked to embellish their status with rarities. This bad habit seemed so strikingly similar across both time and space.
The pillow-turned-Clovis slept soundly, enjoying her first break from the clutches of a certain big-eared fox in days, which explained her particularly restful sleep, giving off a vibe of a world-weary fox.
There was no competition today, and Malin felt as though he had nothing to do... no, wasn’t it about time he found a place to exercise himself?
The gym of a certain muscle-bound lady?
No, that wouldn’t do. They had likely classified him as a special client there. If he stepped into the ring, it was feared that no one of his level would challenge him, yet if he were to challenge someone of a much higher tier, Malin wasn’t sure of victory. An arena where both sides needed to hold back just didn’t seem right for him.
The Northern defense line was also too far; even if Malin wanted to fire a few shots, there would be no opportunity. Hunt, perhaps?
Forget it, the capital circle didn’t even have a small forest. The Sydney Union wouldn’t leave such an obvious hiding area for Chaos’s surprise attacks. Going out with a gun to hunt rabbits would just be too extravagant, plus Clovis did not like such activities.
Where to go for fun then?
In the end, Malin could only get out of bed after Clovis woke up naturally, put on his clothes, and followed the Bunny Girl out of the room, stepping onto the soft carpet as they entered the hall.
Then he saw Faye brushing Maya’s hair... Oh Faye, you’ve really become a cat slave.
Malin thought to himself as he followed Clovis downstairs.
"Dear, good morning," Faye greeted while continuing to brush Maya’s big tail.
"Brother, good morning," Maya waved while stuffing a dried fish snack into her mouth.
"Good morning, ladies," Malin nodded. He glanced towards the fireplace, where spiritually-energized kindling was tossed in, immediately igniting the flames: "Aren’t you cold today?"
"Not cold," Maya and Faye responded quizzically.
Malin fell silent for a moment before tightening his collar: "Wait a minute, why does this coat seem a bit too big on me?"
Clovis, who had been taking a carrot from a fruit basket held by a Rat-man maid, turned to look at Malin upon hearing this: "I felt that Mister Malin seemed smaller than before, even your face has become rounder," she said.
"...Is there a curse that turns people back into their youth?" Malin walked in front of a mirror to study himself... He must be confused, it felt like he had shrunk a few millimeters.
This had to be some vicious curse! "Give me back my height! Darn it! Upon closer examination, I’m exactly six point seven four two one millimeters shorter!!"
While Malin was freaking out, Faye immediately laughed: "If there were such a curse in this world, it would undoubtedly be the most popular amongst women."
"I think your bloodline is acting up," Clovis munched on her carrot: "I suggest you go check it out at the Church."
Without delay, Malin jumped into a carriage and headed to the Church of the Goddess of Harvest. Upon entering, a guard who was familiar with Malin hesitated but stopped him: "And who might you be, related to Mister Malin?"
"I am Malin," he almost cried saying that. There was definitely something wrong! Definitely a problem! Unless that red-skinned jerk had cursed him?!
With a sense of despair, Malin underwent an examination, and the results were out quickly: "Mister Malin, your other bloodline has become active, leading to a temporary adjustment in appearance," the young lady conducting the examination confidently explained: "I’ve seen this many times; the height of half-elves who are half-human can change frequently as well."
"Can it change back?" Malin was most concerned about his height now.
"Of course, once it stabilizes, both your appearance and height will change with the dominant bloodline," she explained with a smile.
Malin had a million Thainan curses he wanted to hurl—he was well aware of his own bloodlines. Frost Giant accounted for only twenty percent while some pointy-eared bloodline made up over sixty percent.
The young lady seemed oblivious to Malin’s despair, smiling like a blooming sunflower: "You look so cute like this, Mister Malin."
Could cuteness serve as a meal?!
Leaving with regret, Malin exited the Church. The girls, knowing Malin was alright, ran off to continue their training or play, leaving Malin all alone, standing cluelessly in the busy streets.
With his clothes now appearing too big, Malin had to roll up his pant legs and sleeves, wrapping himself in his coat—unlike Frost Giants who are impervious to the cold, Malin’s pointy-eared bloodline seemed to really dislike the cold.
It really was strange. Why had it suddenly become active?
Malin questioned himself—he hadn’t been to any other place recently. Although he had been to Melo’s world once, there hadn’t been any issues then; he had even grown 0.7245 centimeters during that time.
...Hold on, what kind of problem comes with decimal measurements up to four places?
Was it possible that the active bloodline affected not just his appearance, but his mind as well?
With this thought, Malin entered the Church again and sought out the same young lady.
