Chapter 376: Chapter 253: Ordinary (Part 2)_2

"At least we don’t have to worry about this rug for the next five days, now that someone is watching it every moment, and its own consciousness has been dormant since that Legendary being opened the portal. It seems the pattern is also a bully to the just and a coward to the cruel," the Minister’s words were one of the few pieces of good news, as Zem and he exited the area to begin inspecting the containment rooms, one by one.

In the first containment room, the doll that had always been seated on an extremely ornate chair was now huddled in the corner, seemingly trying its best to stay as far from the portal as possible. Yet its craving for the gorgeous chair compelled it not to stray too far, making the corner the most suitable option.

"It seems she is afraid of the mechanical contraption of the portal." This doll, known as the Greedy Doll, was an extremely dangerous toy. No one knew how it came to be, only that it harbored a frightening possessiveness for the most ornate object it saw. Anyone who looked at it had to wear a mask, or they would risk a bloody incident—like her fancying parts of your face, and then she would control you to gouge or slice them off.

Currently, her favorite was the chair crafted by over a dozen elven masters; the velvet cushion, beautiful jewels, the Phoebe zhennan wood from Thainan and pure jade armrests were all presented by Thainan’s Transcendents after they heard about its existence. This type of wood was unique in the entire Western Human World, present only in this chair.

"After all, mechanical beings are not afraid of her mental control," the Minister laughed, "Let’s move on."—This dangerous curiosity didn’t need anyone to take care of it; as long as the chair was there, it would be safe.

In the second room lay a dagger on a cushion, motionless.

This was a troublesome relic—a Sentient Dagger.

It had an abnormal thirst for blood; any unfortunate soul’s blood would do. As long as it was fed blood, it would be content for a while. If not satisfied within a certain period (usually 48 hours), it would take control of a person to wield it and begin self-harm.

Because of its extreme sharpness, capable of harming even Chaos and Spiritual Bodies, sometimes combatants would use it. It could be somewhat useful but required careful control.

Though it rarely caused death, it still was a nuisance. But ever since the portal opened, it instantly became as docile as an ordinary knife while it quenched its thirst for blood in the basin.

"Sometimes I think, if only this portal could stay open forever, you see how well-behaved the dagger is now," the staff responsible for it said, lifting the dagger to stab their own stomach.

At Zem’s alarmed shout, the dagger stopped mere centimeters away from the staff member’s body, clearly resisting the staff’s action.

"You see, it really is scared," the staff member said, placing the dagger back on the cushion.

"Perfect, let’s head to the next room," the Minister said, leading Zem forward.

Zem patted his chest: "Ever since I came in, I’ve never seen the dagger so reluctant to draw blood."

The two arrived at the fourth room, the room with the Enchanted Mirror.

"It’s still posing questions, but it has stopped talking," said the staff in charge of guarding the Enchanted Mirror.

As they spoke, Zem saw a question appear on the mirror—In this world, who exists in both the state of Mortals and Deity simultaneously.

Ha, everyone in this world could answer that question, Zem thought with a smile and blurted out, "It’s the Lord of Justice!"

The God of Justice had reignited the divine flame with a mortal body in this world, although ’rekindling’ might be more apt. Indeed, he possessed both mortal and divine status in this world.

·Such a clever lad, but after all, you are correct. That question does have two correct answers, congratulations, boy!

The mirror displayed this line of text.

The Minister paused for a moment, looking at Zem: "There are two answers?"

"I think it must be spouting nonsense," Zem shook his head.

"But according to the records, this Enchanted Mirror has never lied," the staff member glanced at the handbook.

"Then who else might be in that state?" Zem said, looking at the Minister: "Can we ask it questions?"

Just as they were discussing this, another line of words appeared on the mirror.

"I will not speak of it, your presumptuousness will certainly be reported to His Majesty without omission in the future!"

The minister and Zem exchanged a glance, then both shrugged helplessly in unison.

Leaving the room, the minister led Zem to the last door.

The minister knocked on the door, and someone inside opened it.

"How is our little Miller doing today?" asked the minister without entering, standing in place.

The child in the room nodded, "Fine, sir. Who is the new guest over there? I feel a bit scared." The child said this with a face full of fear, peering anxiously at the other end of the corridor.

"He’s a visitor from the Mechanical World. He’ll be staying here for a few days," the minister said with a smile. "Don’t worry, this room will always belong to you alone."

"Thank you, sir. Is there anything else? If not, I would like to close the door; it gives me a sense of security," the child said, looking at the two men with an anxious expression.

The minister nodded, "No problem, you can close the door now, little Miller, and have sweet dreams."

"Thank you, sir, and you too, sir." After shaking hands with the two men, the boy quickly shut the door.

It wasn’t until then that Zem finally let out a sigh of relief.

It was... an extremely dangerous artifact.

Yes, an artifact, not a living person, though it looked like a person and felt like a person upon touch, its essence was that of an artifact.

The crying Miller, a pair of beautiful red little leather shoes; their owner had perished in a horrific sacrifice. Somehow, the site of the sacrifice had become its lair. It would take on the appearance of a boy or a girl, luring anyone into its lair, and then... repeat the process of sacrifice.

It wouldn’t actively pull people into its lair or leave its lair to attack humans, but it would use every means to entice them. If someone was deceived, the moment they entered its lair, their death knell had already sounded.

The reason for keeping it was that every time there was a terrible attack targeting young children, the investigation department would take out Miller’s shoes and place them where the perpetrator was most likely to appear in order to attract them.

This was a very effective method, so effective that sometimes even neighboring countries would come to borrow this artifact.

"You see, even our little Miller could feel that fear," the minister said with a deep sigh. "It seems that our new friend is indeed too dangerous."

"But at least it’s willing to make deals and can understand human speech. That’s quite precious, isn’t it?" Zem said as he pulled out his cigarette case. "Fancy one?"

"Thank you."

The two men lit their cigarettes and walked out of the corridor. "By the way, where did my assistant go?"

"Ah, speaking of Jiaxi, he was severely injured just now for adopting the wrong posture when catching something thrown by the director. He should still be in treatment now."

"Did the director forget again that he has the strength of a monster?"

"Yeah, just a little pouch; nobody would think it’s heavy."

At this point, Zem had already confirmed how miserable his assistant was—it was just a poor unlucky fellow, hoping he would wake up soon.
