Chapter 1097: Section 686: Let’s List It (2)_2
"What if I... must save this child of mine?" Duke Mundo spoke these words without sorrow or joy on his face.
"I see..." Malin continued his sigh, and beside him, a portal appeared, from which a Cat Girl from Panthos emerged. She stood beside Malin, responding to Duke Mundo’s rudeness with silence.
"You see, Your Grace the Duke, this is my answer." Malin finished speaking and extended his hand backward.
An officer walked over, drawing his sidearm and handing it to Malin.
Malin checked the cylinder, then reversed the gun and offered it to Duke Mundo: "You say your child died in Swupsk, but have you considered that he was the true culprit in his brother’s death."
The middle-aged man bowed his head. He looked at the gun in Malin’s hand, and when he finally took it, his hand trembled slightly.
"I know you are always a father who loves his children, but in my eyes, because of your child’s actions, too many fathers can no longer see their children, and too many young ones will never see their fathers again. Your child, as a staff officer, desecrated this sacred profession, bringing shame to your family name... Duke Mundo, with Marshal Constantine and Marshal Sergei fallen in battle, I, in the capacity of a marshal, await your decision."
The two marshals were the final straw that broke Duke Mundo. He turned and walked toward his child.
"Father!" The young man looked at his father in despair.
"May your mother forgive me, child. The children of the Mundo family can all die gloriously on the battlefield, but with someone like you, as Malin said, the entire family is shamed. Tell me how I should save you, my child." As he said this, the father standing before his child extended his hand, pointing the gun at his own child. Despair covered his face: "I wish to save you, my child, but the problem is that I am not qualified to ignore the warriors who died because of your foolishness, nor the two marshals who fell meaninglessly on the battlefield because of your idea. I must give Malin a fair deal, and more importantly, a fair deal to the fallen warriors... Farewell, my child."
As the gunshot rang out, Duke Mundo’s child fell to the ground.
The Duke returned to Malin and handed the reversed gun back to him, then stepped into the portal Malin had prepared for him.
From start to finish, this father did not let anyone see what lay beneath his exterior. Malin sighed and then gestured to the Gendarmerie to take this guy away before turning his gaze to the last two young men.
"What crimes have you committed?" Malin asked softly.
"I am guilty. I shamed my family. I was a deserter and even took pride in it before." At this, the young man drew the revolver from his waist.
But Malin stopped his hand: "You have the courage to take your own life, so why not the courage to go to the Atonement Camp."
"...Can I also go to the Atonement Camp?" The young man seemed puzzled: "Your Excellency, I am a deserter, a coward."
"Since you have the courage to admit your cowardice, why not show me the courage of a coward?" Malin said, taking the gun from his hand and signaling the gendarmes to take this young man away.
Sending off this grateful young man, Malin looked at the final sinner, who saluted Malin: "Your Excellency, I am guilty."
"Tell me about it. If you don’t speak, how will I know your crimes are?" Malin said kindly.
So, the young man began listing his wrongdoings—much like Lieutenant Langdon, Marshal Constantine’s nephew. His only additional crime was a lack of resolve. He said he thought it impossible for Your Excellency Malin to come from miles away to save them.
Although he wasn’t wrong, unfortunately, the Malin he encountered was a completely unreasonable legend.
Malin ordered the Gendarmerie to lock this guy up for a week, then looked at the staff officers he hadn’t named: "Look at you! I’m truly ashamed of you!"
These young men, like quails in a cold wind, trembled and huddled together.
Malin found it both amusing and anger-inducing: "You are young with no great crimes, so I’ll give you one chance to err, but the chance is given. From now on, you must take up arms and stand in the front trenches with the soldiers. I don’t care who your father is, nor do I want to know whose daughter your mother is. You must keep fighting until you’ve taken down the Chaos or it takes you down! You will no longer have coffee! No more wine! Not even roasted meat and bread! You only have what these soldiers have! You’ll need to eat sand mixed with wheat flour to become a true warrior!"
The soldiers’ laughter drowned out the embarrassment of these young men.
"Link!"
The young man Malin named stepped forward: "Your Excellency, Link reporting."
"Remember these young men, starting today, they will eat, dress, and share the same accommodations as the soldiers. They will not receive anything of a higher standard than the soldiers. No matter who brings them something, tell them I am watching these young men and testing them." As Malin said this, he noticed the shouts outside the city.
"Remember what I said." After patting Link’s shoulder, Malin walked onto the ruins through the parting soldiers. Outside, the battle had ended, and that Dwarf Great Demon was standing, axe in hand, challenging someone.
"Is he really your friend?" Maya asked, looking at Malin.
"When Hoffman left, he came to help, but you know, Chaos doesn’t have much sense, so I’ll be right back." After hugging Maya, Malin descended the ruins.
"You little bastard! Asking for help while hiding inside the walls yourself! I’m going to chop you down today!" The dwarf seemed somewhat unhappy.
See, this is Chaos. Though it doesn’t fight with strangers, to say it has brains would make any living person laugh.
"Do you have such a death wish?" Malin stood in front of the dwarf.
"Hahaha! When it comes to fighting, I’ve never been afraid!" The dwarf laughed wildly, seemingly pleased with the battle or perhaps, he hadn’t had enough yet.
This was easy to manage. Malin smiled and shook his head: "You looked even better when you laughed last time your head got lopped off in the Semi-Plane."
The dwarf was stunned, then furious: "I must chop you down today!" With these words, he charged, wielding the large axe.
You see, the Khorne Great Demon really has issues, loves to fight without using his brain. Nowadays, besides sleeping, who else can do things without using their brain?
With this in mind, Malin pulled with both hands, and the black-and-white dual swords appeared from Subspace in Malin’s hands. One after the other, he threw the two swords at the dwarf, who never expected Malin to use two Longswords as throwing weapons, so as he was pierced through both lungs left and right, Malin was already in front of the dwarf, taking his axe and using a whetstone to sharpen it, scattering sparks everywhere, giving the axe a polish.
"You, you cheated!" The Dwarf Great Demon stood helpless against two Longswords pinned in him, bereft and indignant.
"I threw the swords in front of you, and you couldn’t catch them. Can you blame me?"
Face filled with confusion, Malin swung the axe and sent the dwarf’s head flying with one chop.
Just like last time, the dwarf’s head ascended in a straight line before finally falling to the dust.
"Scram!" Malin shouted, throwing the large axe, hitting a Dwarven Chaos Champion who hadn’t reacted in time and toppled to the ground.
Then Malin gestured, tossing back the Dwarf Great Demon’s head.
This time, these guys finally understood what it meant to scram, and as they retreated, all the fervor from earlier was gone.
Turning around, retrieving his dual swords, Malin returned to Maya, washed his hands with her help, then approached Daniel: "Retreat, leave some seeds for your country."
"Yes, Your Excellency." Facing Malin’s advice, the young man nodded vigorously.
