Chapter 23: The Senior Brother Is So Handsome!
Early the next morning.
The eastern sky began to brighten with the pale white light of dawn as the sun slowly rose.
A thin morning mist, like gauze, veiled the many peaks of Mount Hua.
From the tranquil forested mountains came the crisp chirping of birds, as if they were awakening the slumbering Mount Hua.
Inside Yue Lingshan’s private room.
A soft beam of light filtered through the gauze window, spreading gently across the room.
Ning Zhongze had already awakened. She was dressed in a pale blue palace-style brocade gown.
Around her waist was a wide belt of the same color series, perfectly accentuating her slender waist and graceful curves.
At the center of the belt was inlaid a piece of warm, creamy white suet jade, translucent and carved into an exquisite shape, adding a touch of elegance to her dignified and serene appearance.
She wore a moon-white thin gauze cloak over it—light as cicada wings, like a layer of dreamlike mist wrapping around her—further enhancing her ethereal charm.
At that moment, Yue Lingshan stirred on the bed. She turned over, her cheek facing Ning Zhongze, eyes still closed, murmuring, “Mom, why are you up so early?”
A gentle and loving smile appeared on Ning Zhongze’s face. She sat at the bedside, lightly caressing Yue Lingshan’s cheek, and said, “It’s not early anymore, the sun’s already up. Shan’er, you should get up too—it’s time for morning lessons.”
“Oh…”
Yue Lingshan pouted and gently rubbed her cheek against her mother’s jade-like hand, a look of happiness blooming on her face. She greatly enjoyed the warmth and kindness of her mother’s palm—it made her feel incredibly warm.
Ning Zhongze also adored Yue Lingshan deeply. Her eyes were filled with tenderness and doting affection.
A little while later—
Yue Lingshan opened her drowsy eyes, and the first thing she saw was her mother’s gentle and loving face.
“Heehee!”
She smiled, sat up, and hugged Ning Zhongze, her cheek snuggling affectionately against her.
“Mom, I slept so soundly last night—it was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time.”
“Really? Then how about I sleep with you every night from now on?”
“Mom, you’re always joking. Dad would never agree to that.”
“We don’t need his permission. As long as I agree, that’s enough.”
“Mmhm! Mom is the best!”
“You little rascal!”
Ning Zhongze chuckled. Yue Lingshan thought she was joking—but in truth, she wasn’t. Right now, she truly didn’t know how to face everything.
“All right, time to get up!”
“Okay!”
Yue Lingshan nodded, then got up and dressed.
Once she was properly dressed, Ning Zhongze said, “Let’s go! Wash up, have breakfast, and head to the main hall!”
“Mm!”
Ning Zhongze led the way, Yue Lingshan followed behind.
At that moment, Yue Lingshan’s gaze happened to drift down along her mother’s graceful figure, and she noticed a few grains of rice on the soles of her shoes. So she called out:
“Mom!”
Ning Zhongze turned and asked, “What is it?”
“There seem to be some raw rice grains stuck to your shoe soles?” Yue Lingshan asked, puzzled.
“Ah???”
Ning Zhongze was startled. She lifted her foot and saw those white grains of rice, a flicker of alarm flashing across her face—but she quickly composed herself, forcing a sheepish smile and said, “Oh, I must have stepped on them in the kitchen last night.”
“But… you didn’t go into the kitchen last night, did you? Or did you go earlier?” Yue Lingshan continued to press.
Hearing this, Ning Zhongze quickly waved her hand in denial, “No, I didn’t go in. Maybe some spilled near the entrance. After all, the rice jar did explode—it’s possible some rice flew out.”
“Oh, I see.” Yue Lingshan nodded, acknowledging the possibility.
“Yes… yes!” Ning Zhongze looked a little guilty.
“Even if you went into the kitchen, Mom, it’s no big deal. But you seem kind of flustered…” Yue Lingshan frowned.
Ning Zhongze hurried to steady herself, putting on a calm expression and said, “Not at all. I’m not flustered—it’s just your line of questioning is a bit strange.”
“All right, enough about that. Let’s hurry along!”
“Mm!”
Yue Lingshan nodded, and the mother and daughter stepped out of the room one after another.
As they walked, Ning Zhongze discreetly rubbed her shoe on the grass to wipe off the grains of rice.
…
Inside Linghu Chong’s room.
“Haah!”
Linghu Chong sat up in bed and stretched with satisfaction.
“Slept like a baby—that was the best night’s sleep I’ve ever had. My whole body feels relaxed. Even had a beautiful dream.”
In the dream, his graceful and beautiful Master’s Wife Ning Zhongze was holding two fluffy white bunnies and teasing him with them.
He got out of bed.
After folding his bedding, Linghu Chong frowned.
These things need a wash. Time to change to fresh ones.
“Forget it, let’s get to morning lessons first.”
He stepped outside, washed up, ate breakfast, and headed to the main hall.
As he entered the hall—
Linghu Chong heard several disciples chatting about Master’s Wife.
“Did you guys notice? Master’s Wife looks even younger and prettier since she came back!”
“Yeah, totally!”
“Standing next to junior sister, they could pass for sisters if you didn’t know better!”
“It’s amazing—what’s going on?”
Hearing this, Linghu Chong’s lips curled into a faint smile, a meaningful expression on his face as he walked proudly forward.
“Ah, good morning, Senior Brother!” A disciple spotted him and greeted him respectfully.
“Mm.” Linghu Chong responded flatly, not even glancing at the speaker, keeping his proud stride.
“Morning, Senior Brother!”
One voice set off a wave—soon all the disciples were greeting Linghu Chong.
“Mm.”
A casual response, perfectly displaying the air of Huashan’s senior disciple.
Seeing Linghu Chong’s outstanding appearance and poise, the disciples around him couldn’t help but sigh in admiration.
“Wow, is that really Senior Brother? He’s so handsome!”
“What’s going on? Why does he seem to radiate some kind of holy light?”
“He’s just too handsome! Senior—”
“Ahh, Senior Brother!!” one disciple squealed in a coquettish voice.
The disciple next to him was so startled that his face turned red as he snapped, “What the hell are you squealing for?”
“I couldn’t help it~!” he said in a flirty tone.
“You’re even making that kind of noise—get lost, you sissy!”
“Beat him up!”
Suddenly, several disciples couldn’t take it anymore and ganged up to give the flirty disciple a beating.
Linghu Chong ignored them—just kids playing games.
“Senior Brother!” At that moment, Yue Lingshan spotted him and called out joyfully.
Linghu Chong smiled slightly and slowly walked toward her.
As he passed the front row, Huashan’s second disciple Lao Denuo called out, “Senior Brother!”
Linghu Chong glanced at him, a faint gleam flashing through his eyes, but said nothing.
That one glance, however, made Lao Denuo’s heart tremble, as if he had just been stared at by a prehistoric beast.
“Was that… my imagination?” He felt Linghu Chong had changed somehow.
“Senior Brother, you’re so handsome today!” said Lu Hou’er, standing next to Lao Denuo with a grin.
“Hah! When have I ever not been handsome?” Linghu Chong replied confidently.
“True! Senior Brother is handsome every day!”
“Good lad, you’ve got taste. I’ve got my eye on you!”
“Hehe!” Lu Hou’er laughed.
After chatting a bit with Lu Hou’er, Linghu Chong walked over to Yue Lingshan’s side, the two standing shoulder to shoulder.
“Morning, Little Junior Sister!”
After greeting her, Linghu Chong’s gaze turned to Ning Zhongze, who stood at the very front.
“Good morning, Master’s Wife!”
It was a basic greeting, yet his gaze lingered on Ning Zhongze.
Today, Ning Zhongze was more beautiful than ever before.
Her features were dignified and stunning, her posture graceful and poised.
Her entire being radiated an intoxicating mature charm and transcendent aura.
Even standing several meters away, Linghu Chong could still catch that familiar, rich fragrance wafting into his nose.
Ning Zhongze felt Linghu Chong’s brazen gaze and her delicate body quivered slightly, feeling extremely uncomfortable, as if she had nowhere to hide before him—completely laid bare.
She didn’t say a word, her face slightly pale, turning her head away, not daring to meet his gaze.
Having nowhere to escape, this was the only way she could lessen the oppressive force of Linghu Chong’s intense stare.
Seeing this, Linghu Chong became even bolder, his eyes roaming up and down her figure, not missing a single detail.
Yue Lingshan’s gaze, however, was focused on Linghu Chong. She noticed a dead twig stuck in his hair and reached out to remove it, asking curiously, “Senior Brother, why do you have a dead twig in your hair?”
Instantly, the entire main hall of the Huashan Sect fell silent.
Everyone fears the sudden quietness of air.
