"Master, how’s the business on a rainy day like this? I’m heading to the government compound." He Zhilan greeted the driver while closing her umbrella, just as she was about to get into the car, she suddenly heard a particularly loud noise.

"Wow, what’s that noise, did something explode in someone’s house? A thermos?" The taxi driver laughed upon hearing it.

But He Zhilan suddenly furrowed her brows and shook her head, "Master, don’t joke, the sound of a thermos is not like this! This sound..."

She paused, then spoke with utmost certainty, "It’s a gunshot!"

The three words from He Zhilan directly terrified the driver, "Girl, don’t scare people, how would you, a young lady, know about the sound of a gunshot?"

He Zhilan looked in the direction from which the gunshot had come, and thinking of Jennifer and Nuoyin who had just walked that way, she quickly opened her folded umbrella!

"Master, I’m not going! I have to go check it out!" He Zhilan closed the door and ran over, but she wasn’t foolish; though worried, she first ran to a convenience store’s public phone to call the police, and then dashed in that direction.

This was supposed to be a shortcut to the tavern, and she didn’t see anyone along the way until she reached a fork in the road where she encountered Jennifer and Nuoyin.

"Zhilan, why did you come here?" Jennifer asked, puzzled.

"I just heard a gunshot that seemed to come from over here, and I was worried about you, so I came to check. Are you guys alright? Do you know what happened with the gunshot earlier?" He Zhilan inquired.

"You also recognized it as a gunshot?" Nuoyin said, "Just now we heard the sound when we passed by here, at first we were too scared to come out, but then saw a man running from that intersection, Jennifer and I waited a while and didn’t see anyone else, so we decided to go check it out! Since you’re here now, that’s great, let’s go together, there’s courage in numbers!"

It really was like three naive girls had gotten together, and they actually walked towards that direction.

After walking about a hundred meters, everyone realized that this road was a dead end; at the end of the alley, a man lay face-down on the ground, motionless.

Nuoyin, being the bravest, ran up first, pushed the person on the ground, and seeing no movement, she flipped him over, and exclaimed, "Come quick, it’s that stocky, dark-skinned boy we met in the tavern."

Hearing this, He Zhilan’s heart skipped a beat, and without thinking, she rushed over, almost tripping and falling.
