Chapter 3611: That Battle

Chapter 3611: That Battle

Shu Qian rubbed his eyes and stared blankly ahead. Is that really Old Salamander?

"Old Salamander?" someone else shouted, having also spotted the old man.

Many others also turned back to look, fear filling their eyes. There was a hint of a smile on Old Salamander’s face, and he calmly faced the countless eyes directed his way.

On both sides of the Fu River, both the Primal Beastland cultivators and the independent cultivators who followed Master Yōu Jū stared in astonishment. Did this old monster actually dare to appear for this battle?

This was the same individual who had instigated the previous battle in the Primal Beastland. He had triggered multiple intense battles, and both the Primal Beastland and Boundless had been searching for him since then.

Yi Die and Jiu Weihu both glared at Old Salamander. "Old man, you dare to show yourself even now?"

Old Salamander looked at the two Grand Mountain Lords. "Do you remember what I told you before? When I completely master my technique, I will take Emperor Wu’s place and lead us beast-form Spirit Rebirths to a higher level."

"You are the one who caused the conflict between the Primal Beastland and Boundless. That was done all so that you could replace Emperor Wu. Such methods are despicable." Yi Die condemned the old man.

One by one, all of the beast-form Spirit Rebirths glared at Old Salamander, their eyes filling with bloodlust.

Old Salamander just shook his head while maintaining a smile. "Emperor Wu is the ruler of the Primal Beastland, so all of you treat me as an enemy. However, I am also a beast-form Spirit Rebirth. My desire to replace Emperor Wu has nothing to do with any of you, so why do you treat me as your enemy?

"Boundless was already oppressing our Primal Beastland, and they repeatedly challenged Emperor Wu, offering to fight him, but Emperor Wu never dared to try to repel Boundless. That is not how we beast-form Spirit Rebirths handle things! Can you really endure Boundless’s arrogance?"

His words struck a chord with many of the beast-form Spirit Rebirths. They harbored deep resentment toward Boundless, as the people on that battleship had utterly humiliated the Primal Beastland.

Their humiliation could be seen even in the odds posted for the betting pools. As far as the beast-form Spirit Rebirths were concerned, they had been humiliated precisely because Emperor Wu had failed to stop Boundless after the battle in the Primal Beastland. It was at that moment that everyone had started favoring the Third Boss.

There should have been an all-out battle right at that moment. Beast-form Spirit Rebirths did not fear death, and yet Emperor Wu had hesitated.

"Old man, didn’t you also run away back then?" someone jeered.

Old Salamander just shrugged. "Emperor Wu and the Tianyuan Megaverse intended to silence me. If I hadn’t retreated, who would lead the beast-form Spirit Rebirths in the future?"

"Do you really want to become a Seraph?"

"I cannot simply stand aside and watch us beast-form Spirit Rebirths fall."

"Then challenge the High Seraph! If you win, everyone will follow you, not just the beast-form Spirit Rebirths. You will control the entire Spirit Nidus." Hu Wu and Tian Ya stepped forward, staring at Old Salamander with cold eyes.

The ancient monster just smiled at the two, but he said nothing.

"Old man, come with us to Boundless," Hu Wu said, eager for a fight. Everyone was aware that Lu Yin wanted to capture Old Salamander.

Beside the old man, another figure appeared, and they looked down upon everyone present. Seraph Meng Sang had arrived.

Meng Seraph’s appearance put Hu Wu and Tian Ya in a difficult position. It would already be quite difficult for the two of them to deal with Old Salamander. If Meng Sang was added on, then it would be impossible for the couple to succeed.

Meng Sang’s arrival caused the source of the Fu River to fall silent.

The Seraph had appeared openly, but no one knew if any of the other Seraphs were hiding in the shadows.

On top of that, almost no one understood why Meng San had rescued Old Salamander.

Both the people of the Primal Beastland and those of Boundless found it difficult to move against Old Salamander at this moment. All they could do was wait for Emperor Wu and Lu Yin to arrive.

In the blink of an eye, there were only a few days left before the scheduled battle, and more cultivators were constantly gathering.

Some claimed to have spotted Jiu Xian, while others said that they had seen former Seraph Yi Shang.

At this point in time, no one would be surprised, no matter who appeared.

As for Lu Yin, he waited another ten days for another chance to roll his die. He tapped it with a finger and watched as it slowed and stopped on four pips: Timestop. After spending nearly a year in his Timestop Space, he continued rolling. Enhance appeared next, and then Possession, which had been his goal all along.

His mind appeared in the strange dark space. This time, Lu Yin felt confident. He needed to find Wu Wei no matter the cost.

Fate was unpredictable. Lu Yin had failed to find Wu Wei during every previous attempt, and so he assumed that it would be difficult to find the Luminary. But this time, he quickly saw a brilliant sphere. This orb was exceptionally bright, and when Lu Yin used his current strength to estimate the power of the light, it undoubtedly represented a Dukkhan.

There were currently only two conscients in the Spirit Nidus whose consciousnesses were at the Dukkhan level. One was Wu Wei, and the other was Ye Meng. Lu Yin just hoped that this was not Ye Meng.

Lu Yin shot forward and merged with the ball of light.

The moment the Possession took hold, before he was even able to make out his surroundings clearly, a familiar voice asked, “Are you really going to refuse to cooperate with us? This is your only chance. If you refuse this, he will be killed by the High Seraph. Neither of us will have any chance at all.”

It was Cheng Gong. Cheng Gong was the one speaking.

Lu Yin looked around as memories flooded in from the one he had Possessed. He had succeeded in finding Wu Wei.

Finally, he had Possessed the Luminary.

Lu Yin had been worried before, as Wu Wei was a conscient with the strength of a Dukkhan. While Lu Yin’s combat strength was sufficient to face such an opponent, his cultivation realm was greatly inferior, which made him uncertain of if he could actually Possess the conscient.

Having succeeded, he felt quite relieved.

Memories continued to pour in relentlessly. Wu Wei had lived for a very long time, and it was impossible for Lu Yin to read all of their memories. He could only selectively skim some certain parts.

At that moment, Lu Yin did not even need to make a point of going through the memories at all, as Cheng Gong’s words served as a reminder to what the man had already said. Because of that, Lu Yin understood where Wu Wei was.

The Luminary was actually in Heavenspire.

When Wu Wei had left the Consciousness Domain, Lu Yin had assumed that the conscient had gone to the Ascendant Hall. Instead, they had gone to Heavenspire and made contact with Cheng Gong.

“Consider this carefully, as there are only a few days remaining,” Cheng Gong added before turning to leave.

Lu Yin knew exactly what the man was referring to. Cheng Gong wanted to work together with Wu Wei and attack Lu Yin after the conclusion of the battle at the source of the Fu River. This was no different from how Cheng Gong had tried to ambush Lu Yin after he had defeated Bao Qi and many other powerhouses at the Umbral Deep.

The man wanted to pull off the same trick.

Emperor Wu was a far more formidable opponent than Bao Qi, which presented an opportunity to Cheng Gong. From the moment Wu Wei had first arrived at Heavenspire, Cheng Gong had repeatedly proposed this ambush, hoping to convince Wu Wei to agree. Other than the High Seraph himself, Emperor Wu was the only expert in the entire Spirit Nidus who was capable of fighting on Lu Yin’s level. Everyone had no doubt that Lu Yin would finally be pushed to the edge, exposing all of his limits.

That was what Cheng Gong was counting on.

Emperor Wu was capable of accomplishing what Bao Qi had failed to do.

The ambush that had failed at the Umbral Deep would succeed at the source of the Fu River. Cheng Gong was absolutely confident whenever he mentioned his plans.

However, Wu Wei had never agreed.

Lu Yin was fully aware that Wu Wei’s refusal was not because the conscient did not want to kill Lu Yin, but rather because the conscient was excessively cautious. Survival was everything to a conscient, and while Wu Wei certainly wished to kill Lu Yin, they would rather watch Cheng Gong and others take action rather than get directly involved.

Lu Yin’s overbearing nature and complete lack of restraint left Wu Wei rather fearful of the man.

The conscient understood that Lu Yin was not restricted by the rules of the Spirit Nidus. While Wu Wei had surrendered to the Spirit Nidus and had agreed to help train their cultivators’ consciousnesses, which had earned the Luminary the High Seraph’s favor, that in no way protected the conscient from Lu Yin.

Should the ambush fail, Wu Wei would be pursued relentlessly by Lu Yin, and that was something that the conscient could not endure.

Memories continued to flow into Lu Yin’s mind, and he skimmed them. While doing so, he replied, “Who else is involved?”

Cheng Gong hesitated and then turned to face Wu Wei. “You don’t need to worry about that. Regardless, this time, we are sure to kill him.”

“I came to Heavenspire because you asked the Ascendant Hall for my presence. The High Seraph agreed, so you cannot hide your goal. Since the High Seraph is willing to allow you to ambush Lu Yin, why not act directly?” Lu Yin asked in Wu Wei’s voice.

This was the same thing that puzzled Cheng Gong. He had gone to the Ascendant Hall and requested that Wu Wei be sent to Heavenspire, but that had been nothing more than a test. If the High Seraph agreed to that, it would be proof that the High Seraph did not oppose them ambushing Lu Yin. However, if that was true, then why did the High Seraph refuse to take action himself?

Could it be due to a lack of certainty? That was completely impossible. While others might not truly understand the High Seraph, Cheng Gong was very well aware of just how terrifying the High Seraph could be.

After all, Cheng Gong had once personally witnessed a battle that had taken place at Heavenspire.

Then, why did the High Seraph refuse to take action?

"If the High Seraph refuses to act, many will have reservations. If you won’t tell me who else intends to join this attack, I will not participate," Lu Yin continued in Wu Wei’s voice.

Cheng Gong’s eyes flickered, and he stared at Wu Wei for a long time before turning and leaving. “If you refuse to work with us, then so be it. Suit yourself.”

Lu Yin stared at Cheng Gong’s departing figure. He doesn’t want to say, does he? Why be so concerned? After all, I’m not the one asking him, but rather Wu Wei.

Lu Yin released his consciousness. He was in the Lesser Spirit Megaverse, a megaverse that the High Seraph could reset at any moment. Even the members of Heavenspire themselves did not know that they actually belonged to a fourth megaverse.

For a long time, Lu Yin had wanted to find a chance to visit the Lesser Spirit Megaverse, but he knew perfectly well that the High Seraph would never let him in. On top of that, not even Wu Wei had any memories of how to reach Heavenspire, as the entrance to the megaverse was not fixed.

As the memories continued to pour into his mind, Lu Yin focused on searching for information regarding the High Seraph and Heaven’s Blade.

Lu Yin had been searching for Wu Wei precisely because of Heaven’s Blade.

It was a slash that ignored the process and struck directly at the result; a blade of consciousness. Lu Yin still remembered the feeling of facing that attack. It was because of that very strike that he had first witnessed the strange karma phenomenon.

Lu Yin wanted to witness those lands of karma again so that he could compare them to what he had witnessed on the Day of Offering. He also wanted to learn Heaven’s Blade in order to complete the Nine Heavens Transformation.

For the Nine Heavens Transformation, Lu Yin had used Dust World for the first level, followed by Wielder - Indestructible, Lightstream, Infinity, the Setting Sun, Flipping the Sky, Withered Bark, and then divine energy.

He intended to fill the ninth level with Heaven’s Blade.

The blade of consciousness would fill the highest level, the Ninth Heaven, which Lu Yin had split off with his consciousness.

If he could fully master the technique, he would be able to unleash the full power of the Nine Heavens Transformation.

It was not easy to read Wu Wei’s memories. It was like viewing countless images and experiencing multiple lifetimes.

Fortunately, conscients possessed very few emotions. Their only desire was survival. They were cold, ruthless, and indifferent. That was simply their nature.

Suddenly, Lu Yin’s eyes snapped open, his expression was one of complete shock. He had discovered the truth behind Wu Wei’s capture, and it was rather terrifying.

There were rumors in the Spirit Nidus that Wu Wei had been defeated and captured by Qi Zun, but that was a lie. Qi Zun had merely escorted the Luminary back to the Spirit Nidus after Wu Wei was already severely injured. Qi Zun had not been the one to defeat the Luminary.

The one who had defeated and gravely wounded Wu Wei was the High Seraph.

The High Seraph had never denied that Qi Zun had captured Wu Wei because the lie allowed the Consciousness Domain to be established. For the domain to have a stable foundation, Qi Zun needed an elevated status.

Lu Yin had been aware of the matter from the start, and he had therefore not paid it much mind. It seemed only natural that the High Seraph could defeat Wu Wei, given that Lu Yin himself was also capable of doing so.

However, the truth was far from as simple as he had imagined.

At that time, the High Seraph had not only routed and severely injured Wu Wei, he had simultaneously killed three of the Thirteen Luminaries, eliminating five of them in total. That battle had shaken the entire Consciousness Megaverse, and the fight had showcased the High Seraph’s true invincibility. That battle had forced the Consciousness Megaverse to retreat and had silenced the Seven Seraphs. It was at that moment that the High Seraph had established himself as truly peerless and unbeatable.

Through Wu Wei’s memories, Lu Yin was able to witness that battle.
