Chapter 3589: It’s You
Chapter 3589: It’s You
Yi Die and Jiu Weihu, both of whom were Grand Mountain Lords, unleashed their powerful auras as they were both Ortusers. Beneath them were many other mountain lords, including at least ten sequence powerhouses.
This was the foundation of the Primal Beastland. It far exceeded the Daquan Domain’s Chamber of Commerce, the Consciousness Domain, or the Phantom Reach. After all, the Primal Beastland was home to nearly half of the beast-form Spirit Rebirth experts in the Spirit Nidus.
If not for the fact that Golden Roc and You Xia had already been captured and other powerhouses like Threeheaded Fiend had been killed, the Primal Beastland would have been even more impressive.
Just when everyone expected a war to erupt, Emperor Wu's bloodlust suddenly disappeared.
The sky above the Primal Beastland grew calm.
All eyes filled with confusion as they turned to stare at Emperor Wu. The abrupt shift to calmness extinguished the bloodlust of all the cultivators in the Primal Beastland.
Emperor Wu stared at Lu Yin, his expression dark. "All grievances and grudges will be determined at the Fu River’s source in a battle to the death."
Lu Yin smiled. "I had the same thought. The Primal Beastland has repeatedly targeted my Grandverse Manor, and a price must be paid."
With that, Lu Yin turned and returned to Boundless.
Wilderness God, Sovereign Dou Sheng, and the other experts who had descended to the ground rose into the sky, returning to Boundless as well.
The residents of the Primal Beastland still had not reacted yet. Was this the end? Would there be no more fighting?
Jiu Weihu stared at Emperor Wu in a daze. Was this still the same arrogant, fearless Emperor Wu? How could he tolerate such an outcome? Just a little bit earlier, when Boundless had forcibly taken Wu Ji, Emperor Wu had been ready to start a war. His bloodlust at that moment had not been fake, so why had he suddenly stopped?
No one could understand Emperor Wu’s decision.
The people of the Spirit Nidus understood Emperor Wu’s personality all too well. He was known to challenge the High Seraph for the slightest disagreement.
Back when he had fought against three other Seraphs to establish his legend, Emperor Wu had been called the greatest of the Seven Seraphs. Because of his strength, the Primal Beastland had introduced the positions of the seven Grand Mountain Lords. Even the beast-form Spirit Rebirths who had refused to join the Primal Beastland admired Emperor Wu, and many human-form Spirit Rebirths hoped to join the Primal Beastland and become its vassals.
The same Emperor Wu, who had always been so terrifying, had actually stopped.
Was Seraph Lu really that intimidating of an opponent? Was he really so strong that even Emperor Wu did not dare go after him?
Jiu Weihu and many others could not understand the sudden change, and neither could the people who were watching from outside the Primal Beastland. As the news spread, it seemed that no one in the entire Spirit Nidus could understand. Why was Emperor Wu holding back?
The Primal Beastland fell silent as they watched Boundless turn away. There was no one who could stop them.
Yi Die’s expression fell. If Boundless was allowed to leave, how could their Primal Beastland maintain their position in the Spirit Nidus?
Still, the Primal Beastland was ruled by Emperor Wu. If he did not stop Boundless, no one else had the power to do so.
Emperor Wu just stared at Boundless. No one knew what was on his mind.
Just as Boundless was about to leave, a roar exploded from a corner of the Primal Beastland. Old Salamander’s breakthrough had been successful, and he shouted, "Boundless cannot leave!"
All eyes turned to Old Salamander.
Jiu Weihu and Yi Die’s heads whipped around to look over. So, he broke through?
Emperor Wu slowly turned his head to stare at Old Salamander.
Boundless stopped moving. Lu Yin again stood at the ship’s bow. He calmly peered into the distance. Beside him, the Origin Progenitor and the other most powerful individuals aboard the battleship were all staring at Old Salamander as well.
He was leaning on a cane. He looked absolutely ancient, but his dark eyes brimmed with unspoken killing intent. He took a step forward, his eyes never leaving Boundless. "You come to our Primal Beastland, surround our lord, kill Wu Ji, and then want to just leave? How will our Primal Beastland have any standing at all in the future? How are we to explain ourselves to the beast-form Spirit Rebirths of the Spirit Nidus?"
As he spoke, countless beasts throughout the Primal Beastland let out roars and howls of fury. They did not fear death. They simply wanted to fight and maintain their dignity.
Why should they be the ones to take a step back? Boundless could not be allowed to leave.
"Fight Boundless!"
"Fight Boundless!"
"Fight Boundless..."
Roars swept across the Primal Beastland in waves, the sound rising into the sky, carrying the creatures’ volatile bloodlust. The will of countless beast-form Spirit Rebirths crashed towards Boundless.
Shao Chen sighed. "When did Boundless become the villain?"
Lu Yin smiled. "This is a good thing for us. This is much better than Boundless merely having the responsibility of carrying humanity’s inheritance. I rather enjoy this feeling."
Sovereign Dou Sheng tightly clenched his golden cudgel. "Long ago, I alone stood guard at the entrance to the Scourge. Because of that, everyone pitied me. Can you imagine how often I wanted to turn everything around and bring tragedy to Aeternus instead? Calling it pitiable is just being polite. If you want to be blunt, it’s a desperate struggle."
"The Immemorial Citadel was always struggling just to survive. This feeling should be all too familiar to us," Chu Yi said.
Ce Wangtian guffawed. "This time, they’re the ones who are struggling to survive."
Lu Tianyi looked down at the Primal Beastland. "Such beings will always cling to hope."
Lu Yin clasped his hands behind his back as he stared into the distance and spoke loudly. His voice managed to overwhelm the entire Primal Beastland. "Old Salamander, you fled from me during the battle at the Umbral Deep, but now you're coming out. Do you want to fight me again?"
Old Salamander stood atop a mountain as he stared at Boundless. "This is not my battle alone, but rather one that belongs to all of the Primal Beastland. You have trampled on the dignity of the Primal Beastland, and no beast-form Spirit Rebirth will accept this!"
"That’s some backbone. Well, I’m right here. If you are capable, then keep me here." Lu Yin was unconcerned, and mockery laced his voice, igniting endless fury throughout the Primal Beastland.
Old Salamander answered in a low voice, "I can fight you, and I would die without regret. However, Emperor Wu is the lord of his land, and we cannot abandon courtesy."
The ancient powerhouse looked over at Emperor Wu. "My lord, how will you decide to proceed with this battle?"
Yi Die, Jiu Weihu, the other mountain lords, and countless beast-form Spirit Rebirths throughout the Primal Beastland all stared at Emperor Wu.
They could not back down. Emperor Wu should never back down. He would rather die fighting than take a single step of retreat. That was the nature of the lord that they all knew.
Emperor Wu stared at Old Salamander. "You’ve lived for so long, and yet you’ve never stepped forward like this. You’ve only ever treated the Primal Beastland as your place of retirement, instead of going to the Gate of Laws. Why step up now?"
Old Salamander slammed his cane into the ground with enough force to crack the peak. "The Primal Beastland is like this mountain beneath my feet! Once a crack appears, it can never be repaired.
"The Primal Beastland was once a haven for all beast-form Spirit Rebirths. It is not just a gathering of the powerful, but also a place that represents all who have undergone the same Spirit Rebirth. Such a sanctuary cannot have a spirit that retreats! If we do, will there continue to be any beast-form Spirit Rebirths in the Spirit Nidus’s future?
"My lord, you represent all beast-form Spirit Rebirths throughout all of history. You are known to be the strongest. If you retreat, no one will choose to undergo a beast-form Spirit Rebirth ever again.
"I've lived for so long, and I wish to continue living, but I rely on the beast-form Spirit Rebirths and the Primal Beastland for my survival. Without them, what’s the point of living?"
The ground trembled as Old Salamander's words stirred up excitement in more and more of the beast-form Spirit Rebirths. They could not stop themselves from revealing their beast forms.
"Why should our lord retreat?" Old Salamander shouted, still staring at Emperor Wu. "Why postpone your battle with Seraph Lu until after the Day of Offering? Why not fight now?
"Attack! For the dignity of our Primal Beastland, kill Seraph Lu! Leave Boundless without a leader! All of them are from the Tianyuan Megaverse and have always been our enemies."
Yi Die shouted, "My lord, now is the time to fight Seraph Lu!"
Jiu Weihu could not stay silent. "I wish to see our lord fight!"
Countless beast-form Spirit Rebirths shouted, "We wish to see our lord fight!"
"We wish to see our lord fight..."
In outer space beyond the domain, many cultivators grew confused. "Emperor Wu has been acting strange today. First, he was pushed around by Boundless, and now he’s being pushed around by the Primal Beastland. It seems like everyone is trying to force his hand."
"I was thinking the same thing. Something like this has never happened before. Given Emperor Wu’s personality, he should have never been willing to allow Boundless to leave."
"It’s very strange. Something feels very off."
Atop Boundless, Lu Yin sighed. "They say that the older you get, the more demonic you become. It turns out that that saying is true. Old Salamander, what’s your goal? Do you want to replace Emperor Wu as Seraph? Why didn’t you ever make an attempt before now?"
Lu Yin’s words left everyone stunned. What did this mean? What did what Old Salamander was saying have to do with the title of Seraph? How had that connection even come up?
Old Salamander frowned. "I don't understand what you mean, Seraph Lu, but today, no matter what you say, Boundless cannot be allowed to just leave this place! My lord, allow us to fight! Regardless of whether we win or lose, the Primal Beastland will have no regrets!
"I believe that our lord is strong enough to defeat Seraph Lu!"
Emperor Wu then spoke, and his voice sounded terrifyingly calm. "I never expected it to be you, Old Salamander."
Old Salamander just stared at Emperor Wu. "I implore you, my lord, to let us fight."
Lu Yin observed Old Salamander. "You were the one who spread the rumors, aren’t you? The ones that claimed that the Ascendant Hall will destroy Boundless after the Day of Offering?"
Everyone turned to stare at Old Salamander in surprise. Had those rumors come from the Primal Beastland?
Emperor Wu continued in a low voice. "The matter regarding Yue Cheng was also your doing."
Jiu Weihu and many others looked at Old Salamander in confusion.
Old Salamander shouted fiercely, "My lord, if you do not wish to fight them, then step aside! I am willing to die for the Primal Beastland, but leveling such vile slander against me is not the actions of a Seraph!
"Both you and Seraph Lu are slandering me at the same time. Just what sort of agreement have you come to? This is just like earlier. Right when war could have erupted, you suddenly stopped it."
Everyone was growing increasingly confused, and they looked back at Emperor Wu.
His voice chilled. "You are the one who delivered the challenge letter for Emperor Slayer. While Wu Ji might seem to be the source of the rumors concerning Yue Cheng, everything was really orchestrated by you. Your goal has always been to bring Boundless here and then force me to fight against Seraph Lu. If I win, that would be just fine, but if I lose, you can take my place and claim the title of Seraph because the beast-form Spirit Rebirths cannot lack a Seraph. That is a rule. Aside from me, you are the only one qualified to hold the title of Seraph for our people. Even if you’ve been defeated once before, I believe that you have the means to negate the consequences of that defeat.
"You attacked at the Umbral Deep in order to test Seraph Lu, not because of your promise to me to help Golden Roc become a Seraph.
"Even if Seraph Lu had never appeared, Golden Roc would not have become the next Seraph. You would have seized that title."
Emperor Wu’s voice rang across the sky of the Primal Beastland, as though pushing the clouds back.
Yi Die, Jiu Weihu, and everyone was growing even more confused. Everything sounded quite reasonable, but it all depended on if Old Salamander truly coveted the title of Seraph. Did the old monster even want such a position?
Old Salamander barked a bitter laugh. "Emperor Wu, oh Emperor Wu, are you sharing your own thoughts, or have you been deceived? If I wanted to become a Seraph, I would not have waited for so long."
Emperor Wu’s aura shifted. "That’s because I’ve always been here, and given that you have no confidence of being able to defeat me, you could only wait."
"Wait until I’m so close to death? What is the use of becoming a Seraph now?" Old Salamander fiercely challenged.
Emperor Wu was left at a loss for words. This was precisely what he could not make any sense of.
Why would Old Salamander desire the title of Seraph? If he wanted it, he should have acted long ago. He was ancient and quickly reaching the end of his lifespan. What would be the point of becoming a Seraph at this juncture?
Old Salamander sighed. "I’ve lived for so long, yet even Su Shidao was able to see things with an open mind. He once claimed that he would never fight for the title of Seraph. What use is a mere title to me now?"
