Stand By Me Darling
Chapter 92: Questions In Her Mind

Chapter 92: Questions In Her Mind

Cyril was surprised by how sure Talia was about Cyrus being in love with Camellia Langdon. Everyone in the family knew how close Cyrus was with Talia and how much he loved her. It is not odd she knows more about his brother than him.

"Let me meet her," Talia really wanted to meet that woman now.

She could understand the hatred that woman showed her that day at the restaurant. And she could understand why Cyril didn’t want that woman to meet her.

This woman is the mother of Cyrus’ child and the best hacker there is and Cyril might have wanted to keep her close.. But that woman could not keep her hatred towards her at bay.

But Talia can understand her hatred is justified. She did kill the father of her child after all.

Talia didn’t even know what she’d talk her with but she wanted to meet her in person once more. May be she wanted to know about the child... Whether Cyrus knew she was with his child before he died.

But what will she do once she meets that child? Introduce herself as the one who killed his father? She didn’t know.

She now half wished she died today. It would have ended it all.

But Fred...

"There is nothing you can say to her," Cyril’s tone now showed some doubt.

He was in his own thoughts. If Talia knew Cyrus loved Camellia, then she can get some informations out of Camellia.

Camellia refuses to tell him who hired those assassins and if gotten riled up by Talia, she might spill the beans.

Plus those two are the women loved by his late brother. It would be better if they get along in the future. He really cannot do anything harmful to Camellia. He cannot guarantee Camellia will not try to harm Talia in the future. It is better for them to talk to each other.

"Cyril, you know what happened that day, don’t you?"

His thoughts were disturbed by that melodic voice that carried a lot of burden and hearing that heaviness in her voice, he felt heavy too.

Talia knew it. For the Lockhart family to back off this many years and even protecting her... There should be airtight evidence to prove that she was being forced to do it.

They didn’t even file a report.? They knew it. But how?

"Did Cyrus tell you why he made me do it?"

Talia asked and her entire body felt heavy and she gulped. That is the one thing she could never understand.

Why did Cyrus made her do it? Could he have written a letter that the Lockhart family later find out about? Or a will?

Her thoughts slowly drifted back to that day.

"Princess Talia, I beg you... I beg you as a repayment for all the time I saved your life. Pull the trigger... This is the one thing I ask of you in return. Please, I beg you..."

The ground was wet and the temperature was low when that guy knelt in front on her and begged that day. All she remembered was the prickly pain she felt all over her. Like she was being crushed by thorny vines all over her.

Cyrus didn’t seem to notice her plight. He had already made a decision. A firm one!

Or, more like, he didn’t care for her anymore. If he cared, he wouldn’t have asked her to do such a cruel thing. He pressed his gun in her hand and kept on begging her to do it.

He said he won’t take it to heart of she killed her and in fact said he’d prefer if she did it... That it would be doing him a favour... That he will be only grateful if she did it... That he will only hold it against him if she didn’t do it.

She regretted that she did it. She shouldn’t have done it even if he begged her or ripped her apart. But she had never seen Cyrus like that and she felt all blanked out and she couldn’t even think anymore. He made her feel that she owed it to him.

’Seriously, who’d think of such repayment?’

After who knows how long, she pulled the trigger. She didn’t feel anything while doing that. She was staring at those blue eyes that held infinite affection for her in them. They were still looking at her the same way and they were filled with happiness for some reason a little fear and regret.

"Thank you, my Princess"

He said the moment the first bullet hit his heart. Blood trickled down through his shirt... The same blood she saw on him countless times... Mostly when he tried to protect her.

He thanked her... Those were his last words before she stopped him from talking further with another shot to his throat. She felt something then... Rage! Hatred!

’Who wants his gratefulness?’

"I don’t know," that voice in her ears, made Talia snap out of her memories.

"Cyril, why didn’t you made it public that I was forced to do it? I was sixteen! He shoved that gun in my hand and begged me to do it! What am I supposed to do when he asked me to do that as a repayment for everything he has ever done for me? Why was there no one to speak for me when I was bashed by the media and the people of Esteria? The slanders they threw on me... Why? Why was I forced to marry Raymond Sinclair by the Council? That scoundrel tried to... " she gulped as she remembered that image that she had forgotten for a long time.

She really didn’t want to think about it again. If only Fred was not there, she couldn’t even imagine what could have happened to her.

The Council forced her to be married to that beast!

" I had to run away... I was in a mental asylum for a year, Cyril! Why? Why was I abandoned by everyone from my own country? By those I trusted and loved? " Talia felt her voice shaking as she spoke. She is not someone who cried in front of everyone, but she couldn’t help it.

She wanted to have some answers so that she won’t feel worthless.... That she doesn’t deserve happiness.

And now her guilt has only doubled knowing Cyrus has a son and that too with the woman he loved. If she was adamant and held her position and refused to shoot him, he will be living with a lovely family now, wouldn’t he?

Talia’s heart broke.

There was no reply from the other end and Talia quickly wiped her eyes. There is no use begging him. The weight that is crushing her is only hers to carry. Who can she share it with?

" If you are still angry at me for what I did, why are you still protecting me? Was there a will he left? " she asked.

If they decide to abandon her, why is they still protecting her? They can at least tell her that, right?

"The locket, Talia. The locket that never left his neck... He left it with you! How are you even sure that he loved that woman when he left his locket with you? And... You are not that dumb to figure out my brother who did everything in his life to protect you did what he did? " Cyril took in a deep breath.

Her questions are valid. His family did lead her to her wits’ end but he cannot reveal anything to her for now.

Isn’t that why the Lockhart family asked the council to get her be with the one she loved? For her to have an emotional support to aid her get through this? They knew things will get tedious for her in the future.

At least that’s what he believed.

Cyrus had approved of their wedding. He spoke about it several times during the last few months of his life. So his father wanted it to happen.

But they couldn’t let that to be apparent and so they asked it in an indirect way. They wanted to show themselves to be enraged at her and wanted retribution. They wanted the enemy to believe that they took their bait and believed Talia was responsible for Cyrus’ death.

They all knew Jerome Brunton won’t let his granddaughter married to Ray and will change the groom to Arthur. And one way or another she did get married to Arthur in the end. But who asked her to run away?

She complicated everything herself!

Talia unconsciously held her neck remembering the necklace. He did gave it to her. Thinking about it, he gave it to her in a weird way.

And she thought about what Cyril said.

’What Cyrus did his entire life was protecting her. So is he implying that Cyrus asked her to kill him to protect her too? ’

Her body jerked as that thought went through her mind.

"Cyril, if you think he did it for me, I’d prefer he left me to die rather than live carrying this heavy burden. And... I trust him. He was not that dull to let me bear such a burden just to keep me alive. If he wanted to protect me, he’d have found a thousand other ways to protect me ," she said gritting her teeth.

She felt angry. She knew Cyrus. When was he weak and helpless? And to protect her, he had to resort to such lowly means? Never! He knew what this would do to her and yet he decided to make her do it! There should be more to it.

There was no reply from the other end for some time and Talia became more tired to argue with him anymore.

"I’ll send someone within an hour."

When Talia gave up and almost ended the call, the voice on the other end spoke gently.

"Fine," Talia ended the call with a sigh.

She didn’t know what is what anymore, but she wasn’t willing to give up.

Sulking and crying won’t help. It will only make her suffer and won’t help her in rising up.

She wanted to have a good life with Fred. She didn’t want those anxiety attacks to return. For that she needed to confront her past.

And she will do it one person at a time.

She might not find all the answers, but she was not willing to give up.

The country that pushed her out, she wished to live there once again after proving her case.

She didn’t have high hopes. She didn’t want to be called an angel or anything, but she didn’t want to be a monster.
