Stand By Me Darling -
Chapter 90: Turbulence
Chapter 90: Turbulence
Talia leaned on the couch, looking around. There wasn’t much noise except the sloshing sound of water from the dishwasher.
The temperature inside was perfect and yet she felt like she was cold. Like she was exposed or something.
Everything was just how it was a week back. But she felt something was different. Like there was something missing.
The silence that used to comfort her in the past felt suffocating now.
She looked at the coffee table in front of her and all she remembered was that day they placed the laptop there and watched a movie while she was leaning on him in the couch.
When she looked at the kitchen all she could see was the image of the tall, muscular, handsome man, with his back facing her, cooking something on the stove.
It’s not even hours since he’s left and yet she was already missing him.
She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes. And all those commotion from the morning came to her mind.
An involuntary shiver passed through her body. That moment when she thought she’d die... That moment when she met the killer in his eyes, she realised her greatest regret.
She wanted to get back to her homeland and live a good life.
But it seems like she cannot go back there for now from what Lambert told her.
And another thing she found out. She was terrified when she thought she’d die, but it wasn’t that terrifying as the insults written about her in the tabloids.
’Am I worried about words more than my life? ’
She thought to herself. It seemed to be so.
Yes, words hurt. But she wondered if it is wise to let the opinions of others about her stop her from moving forward.
’It isn’t!’
Talia decided not to care about what others say about her much. It would be hard for her who always took note of what others say about her, but it is not late to try.
There will be criticisms no matter what you do... good or bad. It is better to face it properly than hiding from it.
She saw her phone on the coffee table and she wanted to find out about the hacker and checked her phone for any new apps. Her phone still had no coverage.
For someone to access her phone that well, they must have been close to her or already cloned her phone.
They wanted her dead and so they won’t be anywhere near her and so the only possibility is them cloning her phone.
Talia scrolled through her phone and as she expected, there was a new app in her phone and she was sure the hacker was able to access her phone through this app.
As she reversed tracked the app, she could infer that they aren’t hacking her now or to be precise, they aren’t hacking her for sometime.
’How could they have installed this app?’ she wondered. She is always careful with her phone. With all the technological advancements, along with the benefits they brin , they also infringe upon the privacy of anyone uses them. And so, as a private person, she was always careful with her gadgets.
Talia closed her eyes as she went through every happening before she found her phone to be hacked.
The toy store, the restaurant, the taxi ride from home...
"That’s it!"
She shouted as she sat up straight. There was only one time she was away from her phone and that was when she met the boy named ’Cyrus’.
She had dropped her phone when she tried to stop the buy from running away and she found the phone afterwards in a perfect condition.
That must have been when the hacker installed that app in her phone.
As Talia remembered that incident, she felt her hands go numb as she recalled that face. That face of the boy who resembled the man she killed.
She patted her cheek and breathed deeply to control her hyperventilation. She couldn’t understand why that festering wound in her heart gets stabbed again and again.
’Why doesn’t that wound heal? Am I unworthy to be happy?’
Slowly and surely all the negative thoughts that ruled her mind, filled her conscience with negativity. All the name-calling, the pain she felt, the sufferings she went through when she was in the mental institution... Everything.
She felt her entire body go limp.
She really didn’t like this feeling. She didn’t want to constantly blame herself. But she did!
She laughed thinking of the decision she made sometime before that she won’t care about what others say about her.
How could she not care? Even she has nothing good to say about her!
Maybe because she read too much of everything said about her, she started thinking of herself as what she didn’t want to think as.
She saw a bottle of wine on the counter. Lambert kept it there. It must be the wine she liked from the ride back home.
She wanted to walk there and pour some for her and drink until she went numb. She knew that would make her better for a while.
But then a little part of her wanted her not to go down that road. She knew what that did for her father.
As she stared at the bottle, the burgundy label somehow made her remember Arthur.
’Ah, Fred! Why did you leave me?’
She took a deep breath.
’It must be important! I trust you!’
She said to herself and patted her chest.
Somehow thinking about him entirely calmed her heart as she remembered that lovely guy who knew how to make her laugh and make her feel worthy.
She walked to the counter and neatly stored the wine. She wanted to pour it out, but then a little part of her wanted to taste the wine again. That wine was too good to be wasted. She decided to drink it later when she is in a good mood.
She looked at her phone and decided to keep herself busy so not to get sucked into the darkness lurking in her heart that could cripple her.
An idle mind is the devil’s workshop!
She ran back to the coffee table and decided to check the security cameras around her building to see if she could spot the one who installed the app using a child as a distraction. She knew a particular camera would have captured the person perfectly.
She had a hunch it must be Measoles and as she previously doubted, it could be the woman she met in the restaurant the other day.
But she wanted to be sure. She knew there is a high probability that they must have deleted the security footage but she still decided to try.
But then another thought popped in her mind. If the Lockhart family was in it for the long time, they’d have figured out her phone was hacked by now.
They would be accessing her location at all times and if they lost her, they’d have at least called to warn her and of they couldn’t connect, they would have figured out she was hacked.
If so, why is there no one knocking on her door, asking for her phone?
Are they waiting for her to figure out... Or... It might be that they already knew who hacked her phone?
Talia in the end decided to ask them directly for answers.
Why work hard when you can work smart, right?
She deleted the app and debugged her phone and soon the connection in her phone resumed. There were a flood of notifications popping in her phone and she cleared it all and dialled the number, she stored in her phone and yet never had the guts to dial.
C. Lockhart - Cyril Lockhart.
Talia felt her heart beat drumming like a ramrod’s been banging from inside her heart as she heard the call went through.
*Click*
The call was ended on the other end and Talia ended up sighing in relief as Cyril didn’t attend her call.
But she knew she has to talk to him and so she dialled once again and again and...
