Stand By Me Darling -
Chapter 82: The Brother
Chapter 82: The Brother
The assasin tried to contact his partners on the mission but it seemed like he couldn’t connect.
’F*UCK’
He cussed and aimed at the building.
Now where did that bunny run to?
---
In an apartment, one woman felt something cold on her temple and was startled.
The cheetos she stuffed in her throat almost made her choke as she swallowed.
"Miss. Langdon, are you pleased with what you are doing?"
The blond man with a beautiful blue eyes asked mockingly make the unkempt woman who was sneering till then tremble with fear.
"What are you...," the woman took her hand away from the keyboard and tried to turn to the side but she froze as the muzzle of the gun pressed on her temple.
"Tom!" she shouted without moving an inch of her body. A layer of most formed in her eyes. The image of a woman squatting on a stairway, panting reflected from the monitor of the laptop in her eyes.
She saw the broken earpiece on the floor and closed her eyes when a tear drop dripped from her eyes and fell on her hand.
A little more and I’d have made sure she is dead! But...
"Tom!" she used all her energy to shout once more and felt her entire body tremble hearing the man’s chuckle. It wasn’t a chuckle. He wasn’t even opening his mouth but he still laughed and it made it more scary.
"Where’s Tom? Where’s my son?" she asked. She felt a bit ashamed of herself for even forgetting to look after her son, in her quest for revenge.
"Tom? I thought his name was Cyrus!" the man said mockingly in an unhurried voice. Smiling at the trembling lips of the woman, he pulled out the laptop connected to the power socket and smashed it on the floor.
The woman gasped uncontrollably and tears started to fall from her eyes.
"He’s already sick... You know that... Where are you keeping him.?" she wiped her nose with her sleeves. She didn’t care for the weapon on her forehead anymore.
"Where is my son, Cy.."
"You’re asking me.?" the man clasped her throat. "You broke our deal, Ms. Langdon. We are bringing Thomas where he belongs, to Esteria."
The woman failed to blink as she looked at the man in front of her looking at her with a deep contempt.
He pushed her and she fell backwards along with the chair and turned to leave.
Her vision blinded for a moment as she hit the back of her head in the floor. She felt her entire strength draining but hearing the leaving footsteps, she knew couldn’t let that man leave. If he leaves, she will never be able to see her son again.
"Mr.Cyril Lockhart... Please.... Give me back my son... I beg you... Please. He will miss his mother. Please..."
She got up to her fours and tried to get up while begging.
"Oh, really? Don’t worry. We’ll tell him the truth. How his mother didn’t care for him and threw him away on her own volition. He’ll get over it soon. In a couple of years he will even forget he had a mother, " Cyril scratched the back of his head as he walked out.
Ms. Langdon felt her heat ache. She had loved all her life for her son. She only contacted the Lockhart family because her son’s illness required the bone arrow of a close relative.
If not she’d have never went back to that awful place that took away her sister away from her. She had a brief relationship with a man... Who’s she kidding? He could be her soulmate. She lost him there too.
And now she’s going to lose her son to that place? She knew of that place, gloomy and filled with darkness and restrictions. Like a parasitic vine, classism envelops every nook and corner of that place and sucks the life out of justice and liberty.
He...Cyrus was the only bright sun there...
And she is pretty happy to have a part of him left with her. Her son is enough for her.
She cannot lose her son to that place!
" Is it fun being a slithering serpent, Cyril? Were you always wishing for your brother’s death? Did you rejoice when he died?" she got up slowly and watched him halting by the door,
"I really cannot understand how you could protect her...How could you protect the monster who killed your own brother?"
"Serpent? Me?" Cyril turned to look at the woman and his lips curled to an awful grin. "You know nothing about me or my brother. You are one of the hundreds of women my brother "conquered" as he’d brag to us in private. Just because he was careless with you to leave his seed... " he gritted his teeth and stopped talking further.
He knew his brother’s mistake let his family have a part of him left in this world even after he left.
And he had his doubts that his brother might have had feelings for this woman on front of him. He never bragged about her or even mentioned her name to them.. It was not like to him be secretive. And that is the only reason he is holding back from killing her altogether so she won’t bother them anymore.
Hearing his words that are cruel by any standards, the woman laughed bitterly as a bit of despair swirled in her hazel eyes.
It’s not like she didn’t know all of this. She still remembered the last thing he said to her. That he cannot bring justice to her sister because that would cause a lot of trouble for his nation. He said that after rolling around with her the entire night and packed her out of the country the next day.
Cyrus! That piece of sh*t!
She wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. But too bad she fell for him. She couldn’t even abort his child after she learnt that he died.
"Whatever! You all can lick the shoes of the all mighty Brunton family as much as you can. But Give my son back to me!" she was ready to fight. She’d die before losing her son. And that woman who killed her son’s father, she’d take care of her later. She’d get another chance.
"You still don’t regret what you did, didn’t you? If Cyrus knew what you did to his beloved Princess, he’d be rolling in his grave" Cyril could see the hatred in her eyes and his voice deepened as he spoke.
He knew his brother better than anyone. His brother wouldn’t want his Princess to get hurt no matter what. His life was always expendable for him while hers was worth more than anything.
"Let me..."
He put his hand inside his trouser pocket and pulled out his phone and she took a step back instinctively as he shoved the phone in front of her face.
But realising he was showing a video, she watched it even though she was confused.
As the half an hour video, seemingly from various security cameras with time stamps played, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing and staggered back.
"No way... No way this happened... This should be doctored... How could... How could Cyrus..."
She shook her head as she walked backwards and she ended up with her back resting on the wall.
" You thought you knew everything by watching a thirty second clip? That she killed my brother? No! And... Yes, he did all that and still she refused... Get this in your stupid head... Cyrus killed himself!"
Cyril put his phone back in his pocket.
"I hired you to protect her.... Just what Cyrus would have wanted... When you met her and picked a fight with her, I warned you that day that I’d take my nephew back with me if you can’t control your emotions and i believed you when you promised on my brother’s grave.
I asked you to trace back the one who hired those mercenaries because I trusted you... But you broke my trust. And you even helped the mercenaries by taking out ten of my good men.
You killed ten men, Ms. Langdon. That’s ten families who lost their loved one because of a traitor in their midst. Because they trusted a wrong person - you.
You know what, Ms. Langdon? Your efforts will never be fruitful. She has a lot of people by her side. She’ll survive.
And, You called her a monster? Because she killed one? Now what does that make of you, Ms. Langdon? Your hands are dripping with blood... Blood of the innocent.
You know what we do to those who break their promise? We break their bones. But you, have done us a favour by bringing us a part of Cyrus back. So I’ll let you live.
I won’t hand you over to the authorities but we will watch you closely. If you even dare to take a step away from this apartment for five years, you won’t be even allowed to visit Cyrus’ grave.
This will be your punishment for killing my men, Ms. Langdon and for trying to hurt Princess Talia. And consider this as your prison sentence.
Maybe if you behave, you will have visitation rights to your son in the future. You know us very well Ms. Langdon. We follow our own justice! "
The woman couldn’t even comprehend what she was hearing but she could understand the bind she is in.
She changed the route of the march at the last moment by hacking the city government computers and sending a collective message to the protest organisers.
She hacked the city database to hide the renovation project undergoing in the next building.
All the lives lost in the protest, the property loss....
If what she has done is revealed, she’d get more than five years... She’d get life in prison.
But still....
My son! What should I do?
Why was I so engrossed in revenge I forgot that I might lose my son?
She slid through the wall and ended up sitting on the floor.
What should I do?
---
Squatting on the floor, Talia slightly became composed but before she could sigh in relief, the bullets started to stream once again.
She ran upstairs since she couldn’t go down and felt her soul leave her body as she saw the open terrace in front of her.
I already reached the roof?
