Stand By Me Darling
Chapter 207: Moves He Made

Chapter 207: Moves He Made

"You cannot go against the Council, Arthur!"

Lord Clairmont held his anger back and said gritting his teeth.

"I’ll vote on your side in the next board meeting," Arthur not minding others, said looking at Lord Clairmont.

"You can take your wife with you, Your Majesty... " Talia waved her hand with a sly smile. She was half-drunk, Rebecca fell asleep on the table, while Cordelia was the only one sober.

"Henry cried and wanted to talk to you. That’s why I came here to get you," King Louis lied through his teeth. He just wanted to hug his wife to sleep.

"He.. He... Then bring the phone here.... Wait, call him using my phone. Cordelia will talk to little Henry from here. No need for her to go to your room," Talia raised her eyebrows with a sly smirk and was met with Louis’ glare.

Why must his sister test his patience?

" My Queen, follow me to our room! " he said in a commanding tone and with his hands clasped behind him, walked out of the room and the door shit with a bang.

"Look at him, commanding his own wife!" Rebecca woke up just at the right moment.

"He’s my husband. Also my King. I need to obey him. Night night ladies. Sleep tight," Cordelia stood up with a smile and waved them bye.

"Obey him?" Talia and Rebecca said at the same time.

"Yep! I vowed him that on our wedding day." Cordelia fastened her pace.

"Liar!" Talia shouted. "I distinctively remember Louis asking the Bishop who conducted your wedding ceremony to remove that word from the vows. Even the Dowager wasn’t that pleased with that particular request as he was..."

"You remember wrong!" Cordelia ran out shutting the door and Talia could only shake her head with a smile.

"Ah! The lies she spouts to sleep with her husband!" Rebecca said as she stood up and pulled Talia to the room. "Let’s sleep together."

Talia followed Rebecca to the bed and forgot her phone on the table.

As she slept deeply, she didn’t hear the notifications going on her phone.

In Esteria, Arthur went to bed late. He learnt that Sophia ’tried’ to kill herself, demanding he meets her immediately, but he didn’t feel the need to go meet her.

He is not her hero. He has no need to be there.

Arthur had a warm glass of milk since he felt a little hungry and laid on the big bed that smelled fresh. He missed that sweet scent of his Iris.

called Talia but she didn’t answer. He remembered that she said that she’d be with her friends, drinking and talking.

Remembering that he wanted to check on her and so he sent a message and waited for her to reply, but only time passed bad his eyes drooped as he was so tired.

He didn’t receive a reply for a long time, he frowned and cussed Rebecca in his mind.

That woman gets his Iris more than him! And she should have made his Iris drunk!

Holding his phone in his hand, he lost in his battle with his tiredness and fell asleep.

In the morning when he woke up, it was already very bright outside as Mrs. Grey opened the curtain. Rubbing his eyes, the first thing he did was check his phone. But alas! Since he forgot to charge it the previous night, his phone had switched off.

He put his phone on the charger and went to the bathroom to get ready. He needed to meet someone important today.

Jerome Brunton was in a great mood that day at the breakfast table.

"Artie...I’m thinking about building an infinity pool in that island property I’m developing now. The mansion is at the cliff and that architect..." he rubbed his forehead looking at Sebastian,"Florence’s son-in-law... What’s his name? Ah, never mind," he waved his hand not minding Sebastian who was about to speak.

" He sent a nice design to build a pool at the cliff, facing the sea. Check out the plans later. Will Mary-Ann like it? That glass pool apparently will give the feeling of suspending midair... Or whatever. It will be your summer home. So do give your input on it" Jerome spoke in a peppy manner.

Arthur smiled, "But Sir, Iris doesn’t swim and is scared of water. She’s not a big fan of heights either..." he paused seeing the smile in Jerome’s face vanishing.

Ah! I rained on his parade! He probably wanted to help out that architect and build a mansion and I ruined his fun by saying unnecessary things.

"But I like pools. I’ll use it," he said with assurance and Jerome smiled and this time it was a bit dry.

"That child... She’s been through a lot and that made her the way she is now... I just wish she would be happy and lives a long and healthy life. That’s all I want," he said with a sigh.

"Arthur, you know her better... Please make sure she lives a happy life. That’s all I ask of you," he held Arthur’s hand and Arthur with his head bowed placed his hand above Jerome’s hand.

He then looked at Jerome in the eyes, "I sure will, sir. That is something I will do readily and I promise you that with utmost sincerity."

Jerome nodded and the worry in his face dissipated with Arthur’s honest promise. If it was someone else his granddaughter chose, he’d have given a stern warning along with that request. But his granddaughter chose Arthur. He liked him too.

"Sir, about the thing I asked...." Arthur asked after they finished the breakfast. He has his plans but will Jerome approve?

"It is not the way I operate." Jerome sat straight and wiped his face with the napkin as she looked at Arthur with that sharp gaze of a businessman. "But times are changing and I left everything with you. As I said, I just want to see my granddaughter’s happiness and nothing more," he added.

He thought he could protect his granddaughter, but his carelessness had hurt her too many times. If only he eradicated the Cooper family like it was suggested to him, his granddaughter wouldn’t have suffered in the past. Maybe it is better to be ruthless like Arthur suggests.

Arthur nodded with understanding. Jerome doesn’t like what he is about to do, but he is willing to accept it. Jerome is powerful; he is ruthless to an extent, but he holds on to loyalty far too longer.

Haven’t they bite his hands one too many times? Why must he be the one holding on to the past when they forget everything?

When Arthur checked his phone his eyebrows furrowed seeing no calls or messages from Talia.

She might have slept!

Thinking of her cute sleeping face, his mood got better. She didn’t sleep well the previous night and she should be too tired. It would be better for her to sleep in.

In a quiet part of the town, under a bridge Arthur waited for the other person to arrive. Jordan sitting beside him shivered unconsciously as he could feel the coldness emitting from Arthur.

That other person his boss is going to meet is known as the coldest person in the business world for the way he runs his business. He never cares for anyone and he never shows his expression on his face. All he cares is the success of his father’s Company- The Wallace Pharmaceuticals.

But why is he making The King wait?
