Chapter 148: - A father son talk-

"Are you all good?"

Following the pilot’s announcement that they had successfully passed through the storm. Max heard his father’s voice again.

"Yeah."

"We are good."

"Yup."

"That was terrible."

Having taken off their headphones with a relieved expression on their faces, Noah, Daniel, Ava, Blake. Everyone responded.

Glaring at two of them with a fixed tilt of her head, Olivia still looked like she couldn’t believe what had happened.

"You guys..." she stuttered slowly. Ava who was opposite her looked confused and turned to glance at Max and Annabelle. Apart from finding her sister’s appearance a bit awkward and her dress perhaps roughed during the plane stunt, there was nothing.

Eventually, Olivia decided to keep shut. Knowing Ava, her reaction would be exaggerated and everyone else in the plane would turn towards them.

"- wow, look at the view."

Just after this, Blake’s spectacled voice from the third row could be heard. Causing everyone else to turn to stare outside the window.

"Welcome to— Cala Goloritzé kids." Aunt Raven squealed, her voice tinged with happiness.

...

The private jet touched down on the tarmac of Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, slicing through the soft glow of the afternoon sun.

Gazing through the window,Max was awed by the golden landscape, wild—rolling hills, olive groves, and a sliver of blue sea on the horizon.

Leaning against the window, he watched as the aircraft taxied to a private hangar.

Yesterday, Olivia’s group had been contemplating on which beach they would be visiting. Gold coast of Australia or the waters of Costa Rica, including a few more.

Their guesses and choices seem to be for nothing.

Now in Sardinia- one of Europe’s most untouched gems, they were spectacled.

As the group stepped off the jet, warm Mediterranean air wrapped around them. It smelled of sea salt, wild herbs, and pine.

Waiting just beyond the tarmac: was a pair of black full size SUVs with tinted windows and a driver holding a sleek, handwritten sign: "Signori & Signore – Cala Goloritzé Residence."

"That’s our ride." Standing at the forefront, Aunt Raven pulled a cream Calpak roller behind her as she walked forward.

From the look of it, she was the one in charge of booking their residence and probably also selected their current location.

As the only man of the family present, Max saw his father collect the key to the second SUV.

Opening it to reveal it had seven seats. After putting their luggage in the boots.

Unexpectedly, Aunt Raven choose to sit at the front seat of the SUV his father chose to drive.

Just as he got in, Max saw Olivia, Ava and Annabelle come in. Winking at him as all seven seats became occupied and they began their journey. In the meantime, the other SUV tailed behind them.

...

Inside the SUV, Ava sat near the window, her hair catching streaks of sun while unable to notice Olivia and Annabelle pinching each other over what the former had witnessed on the flight.

No one said much and the quiet wasn’t awkward— a silent awe at the wondrous creation of mother nature.

They drove for nearly three hours after that, winding through Baunei’s cliff roads and ancient villages, until the coastline opened into view once more.

As their vehicles slowly started pulling to a stop, a villa that was nestled into a private hillside, a modern glass-and-stone masterpiece carved into nature appeared in sight.

Infinity pool. Terraced balconies. Endless blue ocean as far as the eye could see.

Max walked out onto the patio the moment they arrived, following right behind Olivia and her flock.

Staring below in awe, the Gulf of Orosei glimmered like melted sapphire.

From afar, a small boat could be seen cutting through the emerald blue water.

Seeing this, Max discovered that his cousins were also experiencing the same quiet thrill that ran through him.

"This place is insane," Daniel said, stepping beside him, while stepping beside him.

"Naturally edited magazine-cover."

While they were all appreciating the view, Aunt Sarah,Raven, Chloe, Avery moved their luggages into the house.

Judging from their expression, this wasn’t their first or third time here

Not long after, Olivia pulled Annabelle towards the house while Ava tagged along. Seemingly piqued by Olivia’s strange attitude since recently.

"We are going to explore, wanna come?" Noah was the one who spoke. Following the direction of his eyes, Max saw Blake and Daniel waiting a distance away, with the former looking slightly disgruntled.

"Thanks I’m good." Nodding a thanks, he gestured that he was okay.

"Okay then." As if understanding Max’s thoughts, Noah didn’t bother and nodded before turning his back.

Watching them depart downward, through the jagged slopes of the hillside. Max tilted his head back to face the ocean. Finding it to be awe-inspiring, he inhaled a mouthful of the ocean air that was tinted with a taste of freedom.

Not long after laughter echoed from one of the suites as Annabel and Olivia discovered a marble bathtub with a view of the cliffs.

"Hey son."

Interrupting his serene thoughts, Max felt a broad presence approaching him. Then a strong solid palm held his shoulder, before his father appeared beside him.

"Beautiful isn’t it?"

"Yes... true freedom." In response to his father’s question, Max hesitated a bit before speaking out his true thoughts.

His view of the ocean so far away was freedom.

"Right- you know... a lot of people wish that they somehow get a million dollars and stop working. Some will think of buying a big ship or house and live alone enjoying nature.

In truth it is called living a life without purpose.

When I was young I once hacked a game. Unlimited guns, ammo, crates, level up cards and more. I maxed out all of my armoury becoming truly op like I wished. However the downside was that the game became too easy and there was zero fun and thrill from playing it.

Without hardship, strive and most importantly purpose. Nothing makes any more sense.

If you don’t believe it, don’t you have more than fifteen Million? You travel the world all you want or reside in Africa.

In reality there is no freedom boy, you are either a slave of money or work with it."

Patting his shoulders heavily, Max saw his father grin proudly, obviously thinking he had given the best father and son talk in the world.

Silently staring at the horizon, Max didn’t see freedom anymore; instead he saw probability, calculated probability.

"Right, you and Evelyn will be sharing a room."

"-Okay." Replying with an expressionless face, Max turned back and left. Leaving his father a little speechless by his reaction.

...

"I just checked it, Cala Goloritzé is a really popular hidden spot. And getting reservations is extremely hard considering the hoard of tourists who want to visit."

Barely walking past the doors, Max was welcomed by the sight of Olivia and Ava squishing their faces against Annabelle’s why staring at what was on her phone screen.

"You girls should start having manners."

"Aishhh!" Spanking both Ava and Olivia ass, Aunt Raven threw him a wink before casually walking away.

’... That was unexpected.’

About to walk up the stairs of the villa, Max felt he was being watched and quickly turned back.

There, holding up a book for the first time was Daisy, her gaze stealthily meeting him while making it apparent that she had seen her mother wink at him.

’No wonder she didn’t hang out with her brother.’

Staring at her for a moment, Max took away his eyes from her and continued to move up- only to halt a moment later.

’Is this some kind of karma?’

’one, two, three...’

There were five similar closed doors before him.

Walking forward after some hesitation, he gently knocked and pushed open the door a moment later.

The room was spacious with three beds stationed at different angles buy lacked sign of it being occupied. Other than the two luggage bags on the floor.

The second was the same, and the third was alo same , making him wonder where his two other aunts were considering he already spotted Aunt Chloe in the kitchen.

Fourth door-

Knock knock, Max didn’t bother to wait for a reply and pushed open the door...

Smooch!

Max’s eyes widened.
