Chapter 164: CH 164: The female pilot (Bonus Chapter)
The two men turned their heads towards the direction of the door, their eyes locking onto the figures standing in the entrance. And then, recognition dawned on their faces. Dave’s eyes widened in surprise, and a broad smile spread across his face. "Aurora and Eldora!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement.
The two sisters, Jackie’s siblings, stood before him, their faces lighting up with joy as they met Dave’s gaze. Their smiles grew even wider as they hurried towards him. Without hesitation, they threw their arms around Dave, embracing him warmly.
"Oh, it’s so nice to see you two again," Dave said, his voice muffled by the hug. He held them dearly, his face buried in their hair. The ladies giggled, their happiness infectious. The hug lasted for a moment, with Jackie watching in surprise, his eyes fixed on the scene unfolding before him.
He couldn’t help but feel a pang of curiosity and jealousy, as he wondered how his sisters had become so close to Dave. The warmth and affection they showed Dave was a stark contrast to the way they had always treated him.
Jackie sat back, observing the reunion with interest, until eventually, the hug came to an end, and the sisters stepped back, beaming with happiness.
Dave smiled, his eyes shining with pleasure, as he gazed at the two before they launched into a flurry of words, their complaints and concerns pouring out in a rapid stream, all directed at Dave.
"How could you have left us all alone?" Eldora asked, her voice tinged with a mix of sadness and annoyance.
"You didn’t even tell us where you were going, or that you were leaving that day," Aurora added, her eyes sparkling with a hint of reproach.
"Do you know how sad we were?" Eldora continued, her voice rising in emphasis.
Dave listened attentively, an acknowledging expression on his face. "I know, I know," he replied, his tone soothing. "I left to do something really important," he explained, his eyes locked onto theirs.
The sisters exchanged a skeptical glance, but Dave’s smile was infectious. "But still, it’s only just yesterday, why are you so worried?" he asked, his voice laced with amusement. "Did you both missed me that much?" He smiled at them, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
One of the girls rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "You can’t imagine how much," she replied, her voice dripping with sincerity.
The air was filled with the warmth of their reunion, until Jackie, who had been watching the exchange with growing amusement, finally cleared his throat.
The sudden sound was like a wake-up call, and the sisters turned to him, their faces lighting up with belated recognition. "Right, hello brother," they chimed in unison, waving at him with a casual air.
The gesture was a bit awkward, given the warmth they had just shared with Dave, but Jackie smiled, his eyes sparkling with affection.
"I don’t know what’s going on between you guys," Jackie said, his voice gentle, devoid of any sharp edges. "You don’t need to tell me now, but please, can you let us get back to our discussion?" He looked at his sisters, his eyes patient, as if asking them to indulge him.
"Okay," Aurora said, her voice softening, before refocusing on the matter at hand. "But I meant what I said. I can do both." Her words hung in the air, and Jackie’s expression turned skeptical.
"Oh no, Aurora, you must be joking," Jackie said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I know you love doing many things, but piloting the spaceship isn’t one of the things you would love to do." He tried to dissuade her, his tone laced with a mix of teasing and concern.
Aurora’s eyes sparkled with a quiet determination. "Why would you think that?" she asked, her voice even. Jackie seemed taken aback by her response, and he hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Before the apocalypse started, I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut," Aurora continued, her voice filled with a sense of longing. "I might still be a high schooler then, but it is my dream to at least be a pilot, even if I can’t be an astronaut." Her eyes locked onto Jackie’s, a hint of challenge in her gaze.
"And now that I’m presented with an opportunity to make my dreams come true, yet you’re trying to hinder me?" Aurora’s voice was tinged with a mix of disappointment and frustration, as if she couldn’t understand why Jackie wouldn’t support her.
The air was filled with the weight of her words, and Jackie’s expression softened, as he considered her perspective. "I’m not hindering you, Aurora," Jackie said, his voice measured, his eyes locked onto hers. "I’m only trying to be sure you want to do this willingly." He knew his sister’s tendencies, and his concern was genuine.
"I know how you try to help out when there’s no one to do a certain task," he continued, his tone softening. "You go a long way to inconvenience yourself just to satisfy others."
Aurora smiled, her eyes sparkling with amusement, as she came to a realization of this fact about her. "Are you sure you want to do this?" Jackie asked, his gaze piercing hers.
Aurora’s response was immediate. "Yes, I’m more than willing to do it," she said, her voice filled with conviction.
Just then, Dave’s gaze shifted to Eldora, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "What about you, Eldora?" he asked, his voice laced with curiosity. Eldora’s reaction was swift, her face contorting in distaste.
"Me? No way!" she exclaimed, her voice rising in emphasis. "I’m not interested one bit. Aurora’s the one who wants to see the cloud, I’m afraid of heights." Her words were laced with humor, and the room erupted in a gentle laughter.
Dave’s smile grew wider, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Then it’s settled then," he said, his voice filled with satisfaction. "Aurora will be our pilot, and our secret watcher."
The words hung in the air, and Aurora’s face lit up with a mix of excitement and trepidation, as she realized the weight of her new role.
