Chapter 173: What game are you playing?
Chapter 173: What game are you playing?
"Sure. Why not? And play right into your trap while we are still inside an endless fucking trap? What do you even want-" Damon suddenly stopped talking as the woman’s words really sunk in.
"Huh? What did you just say?" he asked again, completely dumbfounded.
"JACKKKPOOOTTT! Damon, let’s go! Drink her blood! Drain her dry! No, don’t drain her dry! Keep some for tomorrow! I cannot believe such a high-tier divine bloodline priestess is willingly offering herself to you! What sort of heaven-defying luck is this!" Blood Reign went crazy in his head, unable to control her excitement.
Even Damon had difficulty controlling his instincts as the sweet scent of the divine blood tickled his nose and also his little brother. His gaze lingered on the soft and tender neck and the juicy blood that was flowing right underneath. His mouth watered and his throat became dry. All he wanted to do was take this woman right here and now. The next moment...
"Fuck you!" Damon snapped out of it. This woman really knew how to lay a trap for him! He had lived two lives now! There was no way he was going to fall for such an obvious and cheap trick! Damon shook himself and snapped out of it.
"You..." he muttered, ignoring the rapidly spiraling Blood Reign who was still giggling and raving about divine blood cocktails. "What is your angle here? What game are you playing? Did you lace some poison in your blood?"
Aurora blinked innocently.
"Ya. I knew it. Did those fatass priests give some venom to you for taking me down? I am not falling for such a bullshit trick. How about we set these personal things aside and focus on what’s right in front of us?"
"..."
"Woman! For the love of god, are you blind? Can’t you see anything except me? This whole damn building is trying to lock us down like lab rats! How about we get out of here and then settle our personal grudges?"
"I... I..."
Inside his mind, Blood Reign was going livid. "Damon! You paranoid primordial! How could mere E rank and D rank priests possess a poison capable of affecting you? Just drink her blood, damn it! Just drink it!"
However, Damon resolutely shook his head. He had enough self-control to not ruin everything over a beautiful woman’s blood. His entire future, his family’s future, Mark and Kate, too many people were relying on him for him to risk everything for a little taste of blood.
He no longer looked at the tender neck and dashed outward towards the exit of the laboratory. There was nothing there in the entire place except for the long corridor they had come in from. He had hoped that others would have somehow found their way back to the corridor but no such luck. There was simply no signs of anyone else.
A group poison golems came him way which Damon quickly took care of. He then once again summoned his blood wings and flew up back to the corridor. It was time to get to the bottom of this shit.
Damon walked a few feet when he noticed the other party had silently arrived on the corridor behind him and was following him.
"Fine. Let’s see if you can keep up." Damon increased his speed the moment and burst forward with incredible power. Everything about this place was ticking him off and this damned priestess was on his ass to make things worse. Why couldn’t she just leave him alone?
Soon the woman was out of sight and he arrived at another laboratory. This time he did not bother with the wings and simply jumped off the wall a couple of times before landing down on the ground. This cost him a chunk of his health bar but it was a lot faster.
He then massacred a small horde of metallic golemns before stepping into the new laboratory. Just like before there was a camera at the top and the thing locked onto him as soon as he walked in.
However, this time he was fast enough. Before the walls could start self-detroying and bringing out more golems he directly swept through the room like a storm throwing in whatever he could find inside his spatial ring.
As if enraged by his actions, the alarms in the room started blaring even louder and the next instant more and more golems poured out.
Damon simply scoffed at the mech bastards. "You are just giving me more scrap metal! Whoever the fuck you are!" He shouted and started pummeling the mechs.
However, secretly he also made sure to drag the fight back to the main corridor. That was his lifeline in this place he did not want to lose the path to the big long corridor.
Each explosion of defeated mechs sent fragments and acid splatters flying, but Damon dodged through them all. The mechs were completely useless against him. There was almost no point in sending them to stop him or delay him.
It looked like the opponent also realized as much. Behind him, the lab lights flickered erratically, and that eerie mechanical voice returned, warped, half-corrupted.
"Unauthorized entity detected... aggression level: extreme... containment: failed... executing override protocol: tier three."
"Oh? Now we’re going up tiers?" Damon muttered, punching through a golem’s core and sending its molten engine guts splattering onto the wall. "Good. Come at me with something real this time, you asshole!"
Another batch of golems peeled off the wall and marched towards him. Weirdly these golems had a purple tinge, something that was not there in the ones before.
Damon immediately became alert. Even though these things were somewhat easier to deal with, he did not want to be overconfident and make a mistake in this godforsaken place.
He quickly erected a couple of mana shields as he tried detonating one of the purple mechs from a long-range. The explosion lit up the corridor with a violent flash of blue-white light. Damon squinted, raising a forearm to shield his eyes but what happened next wasn’t what he expected.
Instead of breaking apart into shrapnel like the usual mechs, the purple golem imploded. A sharp gravitational ripple burst from its core, pulling the debris and even part of Damon’s bloodfire back toward its vanishing point before releasing a thunderous shockwave.
Damon was hurled backward, smashing into the far wall hard enough to dent the metal. His mana shields cracked like glass. "Fuck... that was new." He did not have a lot of time to get back on his feet as a lot more of those purple mechs came at him.
Damon quickly got back on his feet and started kiting. These things definitely had to be finished from a long distance. He couldn’t afford to let them come close to him. He sent out blasts of fire balls aimed for four of the mechs and followed them up with another round of attacks.
Two of the purple mechs detonated mid-air with that same implosive shock, distorting the air and pulling nearby debris toward their collapsing cores.
Damon gritted his teeth and dove sideways just as the third one crumpled inward with a metallic scream. The fourth, however, wasn’t so obliging, it tanked the fireball with minimal damage and continued charging at him with top-speed.
It was as if their only goal right now was to find him and explode along with him.
