Chapter 171: A long corridor

Sparks flew and metal shrieked as the group unleashed hell on the mechanical horde. There were more golems coming in, but after a few minutes, the situation was completely under control.

They were now standing in a huge corridor of some sort, all sides still surrounded by metal. "Why are we still inside this place? I thought we had broken out." Meira bit her lips in frustration, although she was doing much better now because this space wasn’t very claustrophobic like before.

"Going further inside should be the only way out," Damon observed the place before he started to walk along the long corridor. From the way he saw it, they had one major disadvantage here. The mechs they were killing weren’t really giving away any experience points, which meant that they had to finish this dungeon with the same power level they started with.

The second big drawback, which mainly only applied to him, was that these mechs did not have any blood. He couldn’t extract any more skills from them.

Though these might seem like huge drawbacks, Damon did not care too much about them because at the moment, he had consolidated quite a few skills. He now needed to use and combine many of these skills in order to make something powerful out of them. As for gaining levels, it was just a temporary setback.

The group continued walking down the corridor that stretched as far as they could see. In between, hordes of golems appeared in a line, but they were quickly taken care of without much effort. The golems seemed to be made of high-end metal, so every scrap was properly tucked away by Damon’s shadow clone.

Finally, after a couple of hours of walking with no end in sight, the metallic chamber changed a little. It became broader and bigger in size, and the corridor they were walking on was now more like a bridge, with the space underneath them mostly empty.

Damon’s sharp eyes noticed something like a door at the bottom of the big metallic chamber. He couldn’t use Shadowstep to instantly get there as it was quite a distance away, much farther than the range of both Blink and Shadowstep. Maybe if he leveled up the two skills, he would be able to use them to get down. For now, they needed to think of an alternative.

Damon was just about to suggest creating a series of icy steps on the side of the metallic chamber and climbing down through them using Shadowstep when Aurora came to the rescue. The priestess quietly cast a buff on everyone.

[Divine Wings]

A pair of wings made of divine energy appeared on everyone’s back, and Aurora demonstrated how it worked by simply jumping off the corridor. Her stunning figure floated like an angel as she descended slowly to the floor as if she were floating in air.

The others followed, one by one. Sylvara’s wings shimmered like pale northern light, elegant and cold. Nevin’s looked similar. Meira had a fiery hue as she descended. However, the three vampires were left behind as Aurora’s skill did not work on them.

Aurora tried casting it again, but she again failed. It seemed that the skill was simply not compatible with the vampiric race. She could only helplessly shake her head.

"Maybe we will first explore what’s inside and then come back to get you guys." Sylvara sent a system message. Meira threw a challenging look, and Nevin was already walking towards the door.

Damon, however, only smirked at these people. The next second, he rotated his blood essence, and beautiful blood red wings appeared behind his back.

Kate gasped a little at the control Damon had over blood essence. As a blood witch, this was her primary route to power. The more control she had, the more power she could wield, but she was definitely not on par with Damon in this aspect.

Even as she stared in awe, Damon took a step forward and picked her up in princess style as he slowly descended down like a true god of blood. Meira scoffed and turned away while Sylvara and Aurora stared at the duo with complicated emotions on their faces.

As for Mark, who was left alone in the corridor in the end, it looked like he was simply waiting for the others to get down.

In a single leap, Mark casually jumped from the corridor straight down. He arrived on the ground with a resounding thud like a meteor, the runes on his leg glowing brightly. The metal gave way a little from the sheer impact, but it quickly repaired itself once again.

"Now we can go and explore." Damon indifferently said as he started walking towards the door. The door seemed like it was jammed shut, but with one combined attack from Mark and Damon, the door banged open, directly breaking off its hinges.

Almost immediately, they were assaulted by another swarm of mechs. This time, the mechs were a little more upgraded. When they were blasted apart, they exploded into puddles of acid that reacted with the metal underneath to produce some sort of poisonous gas.

Damon immediately erected a blood shield around Kate and Mark, and Aurora did the remaining as she erected a divine cleansing shield around herself, Damon, Sylvara, Meria, and Nevin. "These people are really intent on killing anything living." Damon mused as he saw the mechanics of the golems. "It makes me very curious what is there inside," Especially because he had never heard of something like this in his last life.

"Let’s keep moving fast. I have a feeling the sooner we do this, the better." Damon increased the pace as he dashed forward, clearing all the little poison golems and leaving behind plumes of poisonous gas in his wake.

As they looked around the new section, they could see a different setting now. Though they were still within the giant metallic enclosed building, they seemed to have found their way into some sort of laboratory.

And as soon as they stepped in, Damon immediately turned to his right, just in time to see a small camera’s orifice opening and locking on them.

"We are not alone."
