Chapter 169: No way out

The scream tore through the metallic chamber like a blade, echoing off the lifeless walls and drilling into everyone’s nerves. Meira’s hands clutched her face as if she could claw her way out of this nightmare. "No... no no no no NO! I died! I felt it! I was gone!" she sobbed, trembling uncontrollably. "Why am I still here?!"

Everyone was too stunned to move, except Damon. He quickly tried the tattoo on his hand, but he already had a feeling of what would happen. Nothing. Absolutely nothing at all.

He also took out the metallic balls he had found in the tinkerer’s house, and once again, there was no reaction. They were completely trapped with no way out.

"Then what about server shutdown?" Sylvara slowly asked, her voice filled with dread.

Damon could only shake his head. "I don’t think even that is going to let us out. I have heard about traps like this. The prison trap is something similar. Once you get imprisoned and sent to the main underworld prison, there is simply no way out. But this one seems to be more vicious than that. At least in the prison trap, one gets to leave the game world and simply quit playing the game. But we are in some sort of complete lockout."

A heavy silence settled over the group as everyone stared at the metallic walls in horror.

"So... we’re not just locked in the dungeon," Nevin whispered, his throat dry. "We’re locked in the game."

Damon closed his eyes and tried contacting Blood Reign. "Blood Reign, do you see any way out of here?" Unexpectedly, even Blood Reign did not respond to him. Damon’s eyes widened. It couldn’t be?

However, the next second, a giggling sound popped into his mind. "Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. It was the perfect chance to tease you!" The naughty weapon spirit continued laughing.

Damon exhaled sharply, annoyance flickering across his face. "You little menace," he muttered under his breath.

Blood Reign giggled again, her voice like the chime of bells. "Oh, come on, you can’t blame me. That look on your face was priceless. But seriously... this place is not right. I can feel it. Even I’m having trouble sensing through the walls. It’s like... the entire space is encoded with void-cursed anti-mana threads. Whoever or whatever built this didn’t want anyone poking around."

That was more worrying than reassuring. Damon’s expression hardened as he traced his fingers along the wall. "Is this truly impenetrable?"

"No. Nothing ever is. Every structure will have its weaknesses. You should find it."

Damon nodded. He was thinking the same thing. While the situation they were currently in might look hopeless and desperate, it was also a very unique opportunity. Same as the prison lock.

There was a small detail about the prison lock that many people did not know at the time. After two years one frustrated player finally broke out of the damned prison that had cursed him into solitude for two whole years.

However, within a couple of days after his release, this player instantly shot to the top of the leaderboard rankings. The player did not publicize what the rewards were, but it was enough to change his life around completely.

In fact, in his last life Damon had even contemplated willingly getting locked in the prison to claim this reward and somehow change his crippled state.

In the same way, he was also pretty sure that there was a way out of their current predicament. He just had to figure out what that way out was.

He looked around, and currently, the only light source in the room was the light seeping out of Aurora’s robe and items. "Can you turn it off?" Damon asked.

The girl immediately blushed and fumbled around to hurriedly turn off everything. Damon raised a brow at her behaviour, but he chucked it aside. He had bigger fish to fry at the moment. He couldn’t be worried about a woman who was hell bent on faking it like some sort of lovestruck, dumb teenager.

As soon as Aurora turned it off, the entire room became pitch black without a single speck of light. It was completely dark.

Damon closed his eyes and focused. He did not really have to close his eyes, but it was a force of habit for him. The next second, he unleashed his chain lightning skill. Everyone stared in surprise at the new skill Damon threw out.

The crackle was immediate, electricity burst from Damon’s outstretched hand in a web of jagged, white-blue arcs. Bolts of lightning surged outward, lashing out at the walls... but there was nothing. Absolutely nothing happened as this attack as well was absorbed by the walls just like the many other attacks.

Damon did not give up. He continued trying all sorts of attacks and absorbing the changes occurring in the wall intently. No one dared to disturb him or ask what he was doing. A few minutes late, he looked at Mark. "Dude, can you punch the wall with as much strength as you can muster?"

Mark nodded and stood up to get in position. The runes on his arms lit up. For the first time since coming here, he did not hold back, and with a thunderous boom, he slammed his fists into the wall like a meteor crashing into steel. At the same time, Damon used all of his power to strike with his strongest fire lance attack.

BOOM!

The entire chamber rocked for a moment from the impact. Everyone instinctively shielded their eyes from the blinding burst of light and wind that exploded from the point of contact. A shockwave rippled through the chamber, strong enough to send a few of them stumbling back.

Nevin and Sylvara stared in absolute shock. This was the first time they were experiencing firsthand the true power of Blood God. The power level of the attack was simply unimaginable. If it were on the outside, such an attack was enough to take down the entire world boss in a single shot.

Now they understood why he was always setting dungeon records and why he alone was able to thrash one world boss after another. The two of them gulped. Now they knew the difference between their standing and Damon’s standing.

And it was not just Damon. Even Mark seemed to possess an abnormal amount of power! These two guys were simply two freaks of nature!

Meira and Aurora also had the same expressions on their faces. Meira panted at the display of the fire lance, and Aurora’s eyes locked onto Damon, observing his every little move with all of her attention.

For a moment, everyone’s face lit up with hope. If it were a combined attack of this level, then surely it must work? But the next second, everything returned to normal as if nothing had ever happened. There was not even a speck of aftermath left behind. Was their situation truly hopeless?

However, right at this moment, Damon alone was grinning. "I got it." He hurriedly conjured another glance and signaled Mark to be ready for a second go. The next moment, an even stronger explosion rocked.

This time, before the attack could be fully absorbed, Damon started climbing the metal wall like a monkey and reached for a spot right below the ceiling of the room. One more fiery crimson lance appeared in his hand.
