Chapter 28: Eden vs Drakonic Form

"Morgan, I think you should give up," said Eden, holding his saber firmly, the blue blade flickering intermittently in response to his Aura. Across from him,

"Yeah," he gritted his teeth.

"I give up." He repeated and was immediately teleported to the infirmary, leaving Eden annoyed, facing a smiling Ingrid, arms crossed, her fiery eyes gleaming with a bestial, battle-hungry glow.

"Do you think you can do whatever you want?" Eden raised an eyebrow, irritated. In his opinion, it was probably a noble targeting his friend. "I don’t know who you hate, but I don’t like your arrogant expression."

Ingrid burst into laughter.

"It’s not an arrogant expression." She spread her arms, her retractable claws glinting in the light. "It’s more that I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time."

Then, in an explosion of flame,

*Drakonic Rush*

Ingrid surged forward, her boots digging into the ground in a brutal rush. Eden dodged to the left, his saber sweeping the air in a precise arc—

*Clang!*

To everyone’s astonishment, Ingrid caught the blade between her teeth, the steel grinding against her reinforced canines.

"What—?!"

Before Eden could react, she lifted him by the collar with monstrous strength and hurled him backward.

"Move your ass, Eden! Hehehe."

’Does she know me?!’

Eden landed in a roll and, without getting up, struck the ground with his free hand.

*Glacies Hastis!*

A lance of ice surged in a crystalline flash, speeding straight toward Ingrid’s throat with precision. Frost shards glittered in its wake, tracing a line of cold through the scorching air of the battle. Ingrid, eyes wide with surprise, was forced to let go. She spun swiftly, the icy tip grazing her forehead with a chilling breath before shattering against a stone pillar, exploding into a thousand shards.

"Not bad." She spat blood, wiping a crimson streak from her chin. Though she’d blocked Eden’s attack, the aura-reinforced blade had left a deep gash on her lips. The pain seared her nerves, but she smiled, piercingly. "But you’ll have to do better than that."

Ingrid leaped, her draconic claws ablaze, tracing fiery streaks in the air, each leaving behind a trail of scorching heat. Eden parried every strike with a new lance of ice.

*Clash! Clang! Shiing!*

Sparks flew with each impact, leaving smoking craters and residual ice.

Eden seemed slightly weaker, but his intelligence made the difference.

When Ingrid swung a diagonal claw strike, Eden had already pivoted to the side, his ice lance reforming in his palm before the old one shattered under the impact. The new weapon shot out, aiming not at Ingrid herself, but at the space where she would be. The drake had to halt her momentum, forced to retreat under a barrage of sharp crystals that Eden detonated with a simple snap of his fingers.

He wasted no energy unnecessarily. Every dodge was a minimal movement aimed at better positioning. His glacial mana enveloped the battlefield, the ground gradually frosting over, imperceptibly slowing Ingrid’s steps.

In response to this strategy, Ingrid answered with fury. Her draconic muscles tensed beneath her skin, which grew increasingly crimson, each movement releasing waves of heat that made the air shimmer.

A spinning punch sent a shockwave that cracked the ground for three meters, forcing Eden into a hasty retreat. Her flaming claws left arcing trails of fire, turning each attack into a fan of burning blades.

When Eden tried to encircle her with ice spikes erupting from the ground, she burst into laughter and charged, her wings unfurling in a roar of scorching air. The ice projectiles vaporized before touching her, reduced to a cloud of steam.

She wasn’t fighting to win. She fought for the thrill of carnage, for the wild pleasure of feeling her muscles tense, her blood boil. Even injured, even cornered, her smile never faltered.

Slamming her heel into the ground, she sent flaming debris flying toward Eden. "I’ll reduce you to ashes, tactics or not!"

A spinning claw strike sliced Eden’s shoulder; he sidestepped, countering with a lance swipe that opened a thin gash on Ingrid’s cheek. A trickle of blood ran down, but she didn’t seem to notice.

Suddenly, her wings unfurled with a rustle of scales, and with a powerful beat, she soared into the air before diving, her claws outstretched like guillotine blades.

Eden looked up, his pupils narrowing at the assault. The ground around him began to frost over...

*Descente de Lumière* He dodged at the last moment, but she spun, a spinning kick nearly hitting Eden’s temple—he blocked with the shaft of his lance, but the impact sent him sliding backward.

"Pretty disappointing." Ingrid sneered.

"You talk way too much..."

Ingrid stopped abruptly, puffed out her chest—

*Drakonic Breath!*

A jet of flames and scorching wind burst from her mouth, burning everything in its path. Eden rolled to the side, feeling the heat sear the air behind him.

"Fuck, she’s spitting fire?! Is she a fucking Wyvern?!"

He had no time to catch his breath. Ingrid was already on him, her claws aiming for his eyes.

"You’re finished!"

But Eden smiled.

"You think so?"

*Lumen Reflex*

His saber, until then blue, exploded into a golden aura.

The light blinded Ingrid for a second—enough for Eden to pivot and strike her with a lance to the gut.

"Ghk—!"

She staggered back, one hand pressed to her wound.

"You..." Her eyes widened, struggling to regain her sight.

Eden didn’t respond. He took a low stance, his weapon now radiating intensely.

Ingrid growled, her draconic blood boiling.

"Good. I’m really going to enjoy this."

Her latent scales began to appear on her cheek, her strength multiplying within seconds.

She charged, faster than ever.

Eden dodged, counterattacked, but Ingrid now absorbed his blows without flinching.

An uppercut sent him flying.

She jumped after him, claws outstretched to slash—

Eden’s saber exploded into a wave of light.

Ingrid was thrown to the ground, burned.

When the dust settled, Eden stood, his lance pointed at her throat.

"Do you surrender, or should I run you through?"

Ingrid, on her knees, glared at him with a mix of rage and relief. She would be disappointed if this famed Eden, whose noble origins her grandfather had praised so much, wasn’t worthy of her fight.

"I’d love to continue... I surrender."

Eden lowered his weapon, exhausted but victorious.

"Next time, I’ll tear you apart, hehehe." And she was teleported away.

"Can’t wait. Fucking maniac." He shook his head.

"She’s like Scarlett, but Scarlett doesn’t really like fighting."
