Chapter 163: Bloodline
Crystal had no clue what was going on with this dragon...or whatever it was. She didn’t know what to clasaify it as.
While it was now in a humanoid form, it would be impossible to mistake it for human. It was covered in pale white scales, dragon wings were sprouting from its back and the pupil of its eyes were sepentine.
To her untrained eye, it looked like it had tried to take on human form but gave up halfway. Ever the cautious person, Crystal began to observe the other party, trying to determine if they were a threat.
No sudden movements. No assumptions. She let her sword lower slightly but kept her grip firm. It hadn’t attacked her yet, but that didn’t mean it wouldn’t.
The way it stood, with relaxed posture and indifferent eyes, made her uneasy. Not because it was trying to intimidate her, but because it wasn’t. This creature didn’t see her as a threat. Maybe not even as a person. That stung more than she expected.
It tilted its head slightly as if noticing her appraisal. She couldn’t tell whether it was amused or merely acknowledging her presence. Then, it spoke again, its voice just as empty as before.
"You still wield your sword? Have I displayed any hostility?"
Crystals brow twitched as she slowly responded
"No...but that doesn’t mean that you won’t!"
The entity sighed again before leveling its cold emotionless gaze at her.
"Child, I can not tell if you are ignorant or arrogant. I am viewed as a God. If I wished you dead, the snow would have been painted with what remains of your body."
The words were more terrifying because they were said without anger, without malice, without even the faintest trace of emotion. It wasn’t boasting. It wasn’t trying to frighten her. It was simply stating a fact.
Crystal felt the weight of that truth settle in her chest like a stone. Her fingers tightened instinctively around the hilt of her sword, but she knew the gesture was meaningless. If what it said was true and she had no reason to believe otherwise, then no amount of preparation would make a difference.
Still, she refused to back down.
"So what now?"
she asked, her voice hoarse but ultimately steady. Even as her body screamed in protest, her trembling ceased.
"Are you here to judge me? Test me? Torture me?!
The creature blinked slowly, the same maddening calm radiating from every movement it made.
"No. I am here because you are the first to meet the qualifications to meet me. Even though it is troublesome, I must reward you..."
Crystal blanked at the words thatbwere said. Qualifications? Reward? She had no idea about any of it and judging by the uncaring expression of the other party, they had zero intention of elaborating.
Nevertheless, Crystal lowered her sword and entered a more relaxed stance. She began to look around to see if she could get any clue about what sort of reward she was going to receive.
"Endure it"
The calm voice echoed as with a flick of its wrist a drop of pale blue blood formed on the tip of its finger.
A look of confusion passed through Crystal’s gaze as she opened her mouth to ask a question
"Endure wha--"
She didnt get to finish her question as the being flicked its finger. The droplet of blood soared through the air and into her mouth where it instantly dissolved on her tongue like cotton candy in water.
She felt something in that same instance, her tongue immediately went numb. Quickly followed by her jaw and it wasnt long before she failed to feel anything on her face.
Then came the pain. She could feel bones growing as muscles tore. Crystal fell to her knees as she could only watch with horror as her arms literally bubbled like boiling water beneath her rapidly cracking skin.
She was like a balloon that was overfilled and about to burst.
"Another failure...Oh well."
The creature turned around, waiting for the sickening squelch of the little creature when it popped.
Yet the moments stretched into seconds and then into minutes but still no pop.
Glancing back, it saw Crystal with her head pressed imto the snow, muffling her agonzing screams as she clutched her hands to her chest.
’I see. Even if subconsciously. They made the right choice. What a pain’
The creature sighed again, its wings folding a little tighter against its back. Snow drifted in the stillness around them as the silence lingered, broken only by Crystal’s labored breathing and the faint crackling sound of her shifting bones.
Even without the trial, It could tell that she was going to pass and began making preparations.
After five minutes, the screaming came to an end. Not because the pain had ended but because her vocal cords were ripped to ribbons.
Fuck! Why won’t it stop!
She wanted to scream at the creature that did this even if she knew nothing would come from it.
Raising her head to fix a glare on the Dragon, a transparent purple egg had formed on its hands. Seeing her look in its direction, its cold unfeeling called out
"Congratulations. You have succeeded where millions have failed. You should be proud."
Blood had pooled inside her mouth which she spat out in its direction.
"Congratulate What Asshole...!"
Her voice was perfectly clear as she realized her body had already recovered at some point. She quickly inspected her body before shouting at the creature
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME"
"I gave you the opportunity offered to those who are worthy....Today you have become my kin."
’...."
Crystal’s words failed her as she didn’t understand what that monster was getting. Noting the clear look of confusion on her face, the God sighed as if explaining everything was such a pain.
"You now have a Dragons Bloodline..more specifically, you have my blood: The Dragon God flowing through your veins.
Crystal had no words to say as she stood rooted in place.
I got WHAT now?!’
What she didn’t know.was that the iris of her blue eyes had split open, making her own eyes appear snakelike.
